Effectiveness of an mHealth Colorectal Cancer Screening Intervention

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a multilevel mHealth intervention (mCRC) can increase the percentage of patients who receive colorectal cancer screening. The mCRC intervention will include a tablet-based patient education program, clinic protocols to facilitate the ordering of CRC screening tests, and electronic messaging with patients to promote screening. The investigators hypothesize that participants randomized to mCRC will be more likely to complete screening compared with those randomized to the control arm of the study. Additionally, the investigators hypothesize mCRC will increase several intermediate outcomes (such as knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and test ordering) which will predict completion of screening. Lastly, the investigators hypothesize the mCRC intervention will add little to the overall cost of screening.

Characterization of Circulating Tumor Cells Captured by c-MET (CTC-MET)

This pilot study will aim to determine whether circulating tumor cells (CTCs) can be captured using the novel cMET based ferrofluid. The primary objective of this pilot study will be to describe the numbers of c-MET expressing cells that can be detected by the c-MET CTC capture technique. These data will be separated by disease site. The investigator will also describe the detection rates of both the c-MET CTC capture and the EpCAM CTC capture techniques in each patient, also separated by disease site.

PURPOSE: A primary aim of phase II FOCULM study is to explore whether cetuximab in combination with FOLFOXIRI as first treatment could improve surgical conversion in patients with KRAS/NRAS wild-type, unresectable liver - only metastases of colorectal cancer. The first secondary aim is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of the chemotherapy of FOLFOXIRI plus Cetuximab targeted therapy regimen in this patient population. Secondary aims include determination of objective response rate, progression free survival, quality of life and time to recurrence for patients undergoing complete resection and/or ablation of liver.

Intravenous Iron: Measuring Response in Anemic Surgical Patients

20 Patients will be recruited with confirmed colorectal adenocarcinoma and anemia who are planned to undergo surgery. All patients will be treated with a single dose of 1g intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FERINJECT). It is hypothesized that intravenous iron supplementation is efficacious at raising haemoglobin levels and reduced blood transfusion requirements.
