Filter by:This open-label single arm study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of Avastin added to XELOX or FOLFOX in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and disease progression on 1st line therapy with FOLFIRI plus Avastin. Patients will receive either Avastin (7.5mg/kg iv infusion every 3 weeks) and standard XELOX (Xeloda [capecitabine] plus oxaliplatin) chemotherapy or Avastin (5 mg/kg iv infusion every 2 weeks) and standard FOLFOX (5-FU and leucovorin plus oxaliplatin) chemotherapy. The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression, and the target sample size is 100 individuals.
Colorectal cancer is a common disease worldwide. Increasing evidence is demonstrating that colorectal cancers arise from 'cancer stem cells.' Stem cells in the colon reside at the bottom of thousands of microscopic crypts throughout the wall of the colon. They create all the cells lining the bowel wall. These cells are created in the base of the crypt and ascend to the top acquiring the characteristics of mature cells of the bowel wall as they ascend. It is now thought that colorectal cancer cells arise from stem cells where the genetic material regulating growth and division of the stem cell has become defective. This leads to unregulated production of cells which in turn have defective genetic information and cancer formation. Prior studies have demonstrated that the earliest changes before a cancer develops are changes in cellular proliferation. Now that reliable markers to identify stem cells have been found, the researchers aim to investigate stem cell numbers and changes in distribution in those at normal risk of colorectal cancer and those at higher risk. The researchers hypothesise that changes in cellular proliferation at the top of the crypt in individuals at higher risk of colorectal cancer are due to a change in the number of stem cells in the crypt base.
This study is aimed: 1) to compare the accuracy of colonoscopy vs immunochemical faecal occult blood test (iFOBT) and colonoscopy when positive for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in familiar-risk population and; 2) to determine the complications associated with both strategies.
The purpose of this study is to find out what effects, good and/or bad, vitamin D blood levels has on stage IV colorectal cancer. Tbe doctors want to see if it is possible to increase low vitamin D levels into normal range using vitamin D supplements taken by mouth. Low vitamin D levels have been associated with worse outcomes in persons who have cancer. Low vitamin D may also cause people to have symptoms such as pain and fatigue. We want to see if increasing low vitamin D levels will help improve cancer outcomes. Vitamin D is routinely repleted in all subjects known to be vitamin D deficient. Therefore, the treatment given would be considered standard of care.
It is uncertain, whether hilar lymphadenectomy should be performed routinely in patients undergoing resection of colorectal liver metastases. For this reason it is the aim of the present prospective randomized trial to evaluate, if routine lymphadenectomy reduces recurrent disease in patients undergoing resection of colorectal liver metastases.
The objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of multimedia and print tools designed to provide patients at safety-net clinics with comprehensible information about colorectal cancer screening and motivate them to complete screening.The print and multimedia interventions were constructed with parallel content to allow valid comparison of format-related effects on knowledge and screening rates.These easy to use tools will provide under served patients at community health centers with clear and consistent messages about colorectal Cancer(CRC) and CRC screening, delivered immediately before the patients see a doctor. Specific Aims 1. To determine if multimedia and print interventions that provide patients with information and motivational messages about CRC screening increase screening rates above usual care. 2. Determine whether showing patients a multimedia program achieves higher CRC screening rates than does a print booklet with equivalent messages. 1. Examine if the effects of these multimedia and print interventions on CRC screening rates differ with literacy level. 2. Examine if the effects of these multimedia and print interventions on CRC screening differ with race/ethnicity 3. Examine if these multimedia and print interventions have differential effects on knowledge relevant to CRC screening.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the capecitabine or 5-fluorouracil selection, according to polymorphisms in TS-3'UTR and ERCC1-118, to be combined with oxaliplatin or irinotecan as first-line chemotherapy in advanced colorectal cancer
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is a naturally occuring omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid found in oily fish. EPA has anti-colorectal (bowel) cancer activity in experimental models. This trial will test whether EPA reduces markers of tumour growth, and is safe and well tolerated,in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases awaiting surgery.
Italian, multicentre, non comparative trial in patients with advanced Colorectal Cancer(CRC)and KRAS wild-type, defined by molecular evaluation. Patients will receive Cetuximab + FOLFIRI until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity developed or patient refusal. The aim of this study is to assess the prognostic role of PTEN in terms of Progression free survival. Although the role of Cetuximab as first line treatment in metastatic CRC will be soon established, it is still unclear which is the best schedule for Cetuximab and the role of biological factors in order to select the most appropriate subset of pts for recommending Cetuximab. The data supporting a benefit of Cetuximab in KRAS wild-type pts open the perspective to study the role of other molecular markers in this subset of pts. On the basis of these considerations this study is aimed at testing a different schedule of Cetuximab and better characterize the prognosis of pts for which Cetuximab is appropriate.
A Phase I/II study of an in-situ therapeutic cancer vaccine. Vaccines contain a source of antigen and and adjuvant. In this study the source of tumor antigen comes from the killing of a selected tumor by cryoablation (killing using extreme cold) and the adjuvant is intentionally mis-matched immune cells (AlloStim-TM) engineered to produce inflammatory cytokines.
