Filter by:Nearly 1 in 10 older Americans have dementia, which is a devastating condition that leads to a progressive loss of independence and functional status. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an intermediate stage between the expected cognitive decline of normal aging and the more-serious decline of dementia. The investigators have developed a novel, integrative exercise program called Preventing Loss of Independence through Exercise (PLIE) that incorporates elements from Eastern and Western exercise modalities and is designed to build and maintain the capacity to perform basic functional movements while increasing mindful body awareness and enhancing social connection. Pilot study results suggest that PLIE is associated with meaningful improvements in physical function, cognitive function and quality of life in individuals with dementia, as well as reduced caregiver burden. The goal of the current study is to perform a randomized, controlled trial to test the efficacy of PLIE in older adults who have MCI but who do not yet have dementia. The investigators will also investigate the neural mechanisms underlying PLIE by acquiring brain imaging measures.
This study evaluates the application of non-invasive brain stimulation in the treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in adults aged 55-85. Half of the participants will receive transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), while the other half will receive sham (like placebo) stimulation.
Cognitive impairment after ischemic stroke can affect not only the social adaptation ability, but also affect the comprehensive rehabilitation of patients. The damage of cognitive impairment after ischemic stroke is not lower than the body function defect after stroke. Many studies have shown that oxidative stress is one of the pathophysiological mechanisms of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Many studies have reported that the oxidative-reduction of cells plays an important role in the life activities of organisms, affecting the health, aging and death of the organism. In the recent years, some scholars have suggested that post-stroke cognitive impairment may be related to oxidative-reduction homeostasis of the body, but the relevant evidence is lacking and needs to be further explored. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the effect of oxidation-reduction homeostasis on cognitive impairment in patients with ischemic stroke, and provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of cognitive impairment after ischemic stroke.
The major aim of this study is to investigate the effects of biofeedback assisted abdominal breathing training on improving the psychological and physiological distress in patients with ACI. In this randomized, controlled, single-blind trial, AIS patients were randomly assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received four HRVBF training sessions. The control group received routine care. Repeated measures of HRV, Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scales (HADS), and Barthel Index for ADLs were collected prior to, and at one, and three months post-intervention.
Cognitive impairment is a significant health problem in the United States, resulting in costs over $100 billion a year. We will provide an efficient, effective, and financially intelligent solution to Primary Care Physician's to identify cognitive impairment in the earliest stages, delay progression through appropriate treatment, and to afford patients the opportunity to make future plans at a time when symptoms are mild and patients are able to make informed decisions concerning financial and life activities. This has the potential to delay devastating effects of cognitive impairment, and to lessen the financial burden on the health care system in the United States.
The purpose of this pilot study will be to test whether Kundalini yoga (KY) and Kirtan Kriya (KK) yogic meditation is superior to Memory Enhancement Training (MET) for improving cognitive functioning, health (including cardiovascular factors), and mood in women with high AD risk.
This study evaluates the efficacy of Real-World Strategy Training (RWST) compared to a psycho-education workshop for improving everyday life performance in older adults with subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of these approaches.
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of AGB101 on slowing cognitive and functional impairment as measured by changes in the Clinical Dementia Rating-Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB) score as compared with placebo in participants with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's Disease (MCI due to AD) also known as prodromal AD. Participants will be randomized to receive placebo or AGB101 (220 mg), once daily for 78 weeks. Secondary objectives are to assess the effect of AGB101 compared with placebo on clinical progression as measured by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ).
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of dual site-dual channel non-invasive brain stimulation for recovery of language and cognitive function in post stroke patients. Simultaneous dual site-dual channel stimulation was applied by using two sets of transcranial direct current stimulation devices. All subjects will go through four conditions of transcranial direct current stimulation with for 30 minutes. Four conditions are 1) Dual stimulation: i) anodal stimulation on ipsilesional inferior frontal cortex, ii) anodal stimulation on ipsilesional dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. 2) Single stimulation 1: anodal stimulation on ipsilesional inferior frontal cortex and cathodal stimulation on contralesional inferior frontal cortex; 3) Single stimulation 2: anodal stimulation on ipsilesional inferior frontal cortex and cathodal stimulation on contralesional supraorbital area.
CTNPT 029 will test the feasibility and acceptability of cognitive remediation group therapy in older adults living with HIV who have been diagnosed with HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND). The cognitive remediation therapy will include tablet-based cognitive training and mindfulness-based stress reduction sessions.
