Filter by:The Nalu Neurostimulation System is capable of delivering multiple therapy options to address patient needs. The study will confirm the efficacy, safety, comfort and compliance with the Nalu Neurostimulation System in adult subjects with chronic pain in the legs and back. Patients who have been diagnosed with failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) and meet other study eligibility criteria will be enrolled in the study to receive the Nalu Neurostimulation System.
The purpose of this study is to determine if creation of a skin wheel with bacteriostatic normal saline, which includes 0.9% benzyl alcohol, is less painful and provides a similar level of anesthesia compared to 1% lidocaine. Participants will receive both types of anesthesia, in random order.
This study will examine how discounted vouchers for medical cannabis use affects opioid analgesic use in adults with chronic pain. Our study findings will have critically important implications to shape clinical care and medical cannabis policies.
The objective of this study is to rigorously examine the impact of online MORE, delivered through video conference, on opioid use and chronic pain among individuals receiving methadone maintenance treatment (MMT). This study is a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of online MORE on opioid use and chronic pain immediately after treatment and 8-weeks post-treatment as compared to treatment as usual (TAU) among 154 individuals in MMT. Further, mediators (i.e., metacognitive awareness, negative emotion regulation, and natural reward processing) and moderators (i.e., gender, race, income, mental health, trauma, and MMT phase) of treatment response will be explored.
The study will be described the development and implementation of the Clinical pathway (CPW) for acupuncture treatment in the management of patients with some chronic pain conditions. The effectiveness of this CPW will be explored in this study through retrospective analysis of clinical outcomes after administration of acupuncture treatment summarised in the guidelines.
This was a prospective observational study with the primary objective of quantifying a change in pain scores after 6-12 months of two separate interventions within the study site (pain team and chiropractic team). Target enrollment was 30 participants for each intervention. The primary outcome was a change from baseline of the Pain Disability Questionnaire (PDQ), the study tool. Secondary outcomes were reduction of opioid dose by morphine equivalent daily dose, and its effect on PDQ scores.
Patients with chronic pain and moderate suicide risk (n=60) will be randomized to receive remote-PST or remote-supportive psychotherapy. We will assess problem-solving deficits through self-report, objective neuropsychological assessment and caregiver report. We have used an adaptive design so that if there is strong evidence for target engagement, we will continue with the trial as a fully powered clinical trial (i.e., the end of the current proposal will act as the interim assessment) to the determine the efficacy of remote PST for patients with chronic pain and moderate suicide risk (n=190) to improve suicide outcomes.
The aim of this study it's to analyze the relationship between autonomic nervous system balance (ANSb) and chronic pain conditions, especially in this case, non-especific chronic low back pain (CLBP). Most of physiotherapy approaches focus only in biomechanical aspects, leaving aside what kind of factors could perpetuate CLBP. Since 1985, ANSb was studied due to its potential contribution to chronic pain. Electrical stimulation, through interferential currents (IFC), it's a safe and well-known therapy used in CLBP with good outcomes regarding pain relief. The main objective of this study it's to quantify the association between CLBP and ANSb alterations. In second place, the research team aims to record the influence of IFC over pain and ANSb in those subjects.
The aim of this project is to increase scientific understanding of whether the trait of SPS can help explain increased pain sensitivity and hence vulnerability for chronic pain. Additionally, it will be tested whether participants with high SPS report differences in pain intensity in response to positive, negative, or neutral mood induction compared to individuals with lower SPS.
Participants with chronic back pain will complete an online eligibility questionnaire. After signing a consent form, eligible participants enter a two-week baseline period ("Baseline Period") during which they complete a daily pain survey. Following the Baseline Period all participants complete an MRI scan. After the MRI, scan participants are randomized into a treatment group ("Therapy Group") or a no-intervention group ("Standard of Care Group" or "SOC Group") with a ratio of 1:1 (treatment:SOC). Therapy Group participants receive education about chronic pain. They also participate in sessions to personalize their Virtual Reality (VR) experience, and to complete training on the use of the VR hardware and software. Therapy Group participants complete the treatment for 8 weeks ("Therapy Period"), after which they return the VR equipment. All participants take a second MRI scan approximately 8-weeks after the first MRI; for the Therapy Group this is at the end of the Therapy Period. After the Therapy Period, Therapy Group participants continue to complete daily pain surveys during a two-week follow-up period ("Follow-Up Period"). All participants complete self-reported clinical outcomes and behavioral measures surveys before and after the Baseline Period, 4 weeks after the first MRI (for Therapy Group this is mid-way through the Therapy Period), and before and after the Follow-Up Period. For Therapy Group participants the study ends with the final surveys and an exit interview at the end of the Follow-up Period. Study Extension (Add-on): SOC Group participants may receive the treatment after the Follow-Up period. Those who elect to do so will complete the same set of surveys as the Therapy Group did during the treatment phase; however, since there is no comparison group, data from this study extension is not used in the main outcomes analyses.
