Filter by:Age with Health is a longitudinal cohort study aimed to examine trajectories of health, disability and wellbeing and their determinants for Spanish ageing population. Two waves have carried out so far. Wave 1 (2011-2012) and Wave 2 (2014-2015). Wave 3 will be conducted 2018, including also a new cohort of participants (Called 2018 Cohort). The study will provide reliable measures of population ageing and adult health in Spain - and will provide the basis for cross-country comparisons with longitudinal studies conducted in other countries.
The chronic disease burden is increasing worldwide leading to a rise in the demand for primary healthcare and a shortage of primary care physicians. Addressing this shortage entails a multi-prong approach with innovations in care delivery, greater use of healthcare technology, and more efficient use of all healthcare providers on the care team. We previously developed an interactive self-service healthcare kiosk (Self-empowering and enabling kiosk - SEEK® MyHealthKiosk) for the management of patients with stable chronic disease in the primary care setting. A feasibility study using SEEK showed high levels of acceptance and satisfaction from patients and healthcare providers. The aim of this follow-up study is to evaluate the health outcomes of patients with stable chronic disease who are on kiosk management compared to patients who are on routine management by nurse clinicians. We hypothesize that patients who are managed by the kiosk continue to maintain good disease control that are comparable to patients who are managed by a nurse clinician.
A pragmatic randomized trial to evaluate the impact of an integrated patient experience and outcome measurement system supported by citizens, caregivers and community through eHealth technology. The primary research question is: What is the effectiveness of the WECCC approach on quality of life in people aged 65 and older or who self-identify as disabled compared to people not receiving the Health TAPESTRY program?
Hypothesis: 1. Innate immunity is altered in certain patients with COPD and frequent exacerbations, a fact that makes them more susceptible to being infected by bacteria. 2. The electronic nose is able to detect patterns of specific VOCs for exacerbations of infectious origin.
The subjects of this study are the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with chronic II respiratory failure. The participants will be divided into two groups: The Portable Home Noninvasive Ventilator treatment group and the routine home oxygen inhalation treatment group. All subjects will be given a stable COPD regimen and conventional oxygen therapy ,but the portable home noninvasive ventilator treatment group will need to wear a portable non-invasive ventilator. Objective evaluation indexes were established during the routine treatment, and two groups of subjects will be followed up for one year. Finally, the clinical data of all subjects will be analyzed，and then the practicability of portable wearable household noninvasive ventilator will be verified.The researchers will also build a remote breathing data-monitoring platform based on mobile internet,and a community home demonstration application point.
Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are 2-3 times more likely to occur together with chronic gastrointestinal tract (GIT) diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Similarly, despite many patients have no history of acute or chronic respiratory disease, up to 50% of IBD patients and 33% of IBS patients have pulmonary involvement, such as inflammation or impaired lung function. Increasing evidence indicated chronic gut and lung disease share key conceptual features with the disorder and dysregulation of the microbial ecosystem. However, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Our study is aimed to elucidate the intimate relationship between the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract, and uncover the mechanisms by which the gut microbiota affects the immune responses in the lungs, and vice versa.
Evaluation of central (cerebral) effects of Pulsed RadioFrequency (PRF) on the lumbar DRG (Dorsal Root Ganglion), using fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging ). Feasibility study (after which an interim analysis is done): 5 subjects in order to detect measurable central effects inducted by PRF on DRG, follow up study 20. Total amount of subjects 25.
To detect the effect of hypertonic saline and fluticasone sprays on computed tomography scan of paranasal sinuses of patients having chronic sinusitis and/or nasal polyps.
The proposed pilot study is an evaluation of Communitas, a mind-body skills group visit and for 12-19 year-olds living with chronic physical illness. The goal of this study is to assess the efficacy and feasibility of these group visits. During 2017-2018, the investigators will recruit 50-100 patient and 50-100 parent enrollees of Communitas to participate in this study. The study will be a pre-post evaluation, without a control group, using validated patient-report assessments at baseline, after completion of the group visits, and 3 months later. The primary outcome variables will be physical and mental wellbeing, stress, mood, resilience, mindfulness, and social support. Paired t tests will be used to assess changes from baseline to immediately post-intervention & 3 months post-intervention. The investigators will also calculate Cohen's d effect sizes, to help them understand the degree to which an effect is present in the population.
In Colombia as in the world, chronic diseases occupy the first places of death being cardiovascular, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes mellitus are the most prevalent. The caregiver burden is reflected as an experience of constant attention, this routine is shown in the changes they undergo in their life, and the emotions cope at different stages of the process that arises chronic non-communicable disease from their family in demands care. Methodology: a randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted to determine the effect of skill care program "Caring for the caregivers" to reduce the burden of care in carers of people with chronic non-communicable University Hospital in Los Comuneros in Bucaramanga. Results and expected impact: bring to the lines of research: Community Care: improve the ability of the care of family caregivers at home and increase the quality of life that people are able to chronicity. Clinical Care: Strengthens care ability of caregivers who are in health institutions. Management and Care Management: Promoting implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the educational proposal in order to create a network of support for family caregivers in Santander in extending the results to other institutions. The project results should allow participation in Extension and Social Projection, whose results will allow the implementation of an effective educational model for the care of patients with chronic non-communicable disease in Colombia. In addition, the consolidation of the alliance between Everest group at the University of Santander with the Latin American Network of chronic patient care and clinical Communards of Bucaramanga projects. Finally it is expected to consolidate training in the area of research students in undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Santander.
