Pistachios Blood Sugar Control, Heart and Gut Health

A two-period randomized crossover study will be conducted to evaluate the effect of nighttime pistachio consumption (i.e., after dinner and before sleep) on fasting blood sugar levels, longer-term blood sugar control, and risk factors for heart disease. This study will also investigate how pistachios affects gut health.

NAUTICAL: Effect of Natriuretic Peptide Augmentation on Cardiometabolic Health in Black Individuals

Black individuals are more likely to have decreased insulin sensitivity which results in a high risk for the development of cardiometabolic disease. The reasons for this are incompletely understood. Natriuretic peptides (NPs) are hormones produced by the heart that play a role in regulating the metabolic health of an individual. Low circulating level of NPs is an important contributor to increased risk for diabetes. The NP levels are relatively lower among Black individuals thus affecting their metabolic health and putting them at a higher risk for diabetes. This study aims to test the hypothesis that by augmenting NP levels using sacubitril/valsartan, among Black Individuals one can improve their metabolic health (as measured by insulin sensitivity & energy expenditure) and help establish the role of NPs in the underlying mechanism behind increased risk for cardiometabolic disease in these population.

Internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Cardiac Patients

Our overall objective is to evaluate the efficacy of therapist-assisted, internet-based cognitive-behavioural therapy (iCBT) for depressed cardiac patients with respect to clinical outcomes, and the feasibility of the program. Our primary outcome will be depression severity; secondary outcomes will be hospitalization for a cardiac cause, recurrent myocardial infarction or revascularization. The study will inform a proposal to incorporate iCBT into the resources routinely available to cardiac patients following hospitalization for a cardiac event.

The IMPACT Registry represents a non-interventional, prospective, open-label, multicenter, international registry with a follow-up of 5 years that includes data of patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with the Edwards INSPIRIS RESILIA Aortic Valveā„¢. The IMPACT Registry will be performed in up to 25 participating sites across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A minimum number of 500 patients (20 patients per center) will be enrolled. Patients will undergo follow-up visits at baseline, surgery, pre-discharge, year 1, year 3 and year 5.

Discontinuation of Postmenopausal Hormone Therapy: Impact on the Cardiovascular System and Quality of Life

Although the impact of postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) on cardiovascular disease risk has been studied in several large randomized trials, little is known about the acute cardiovascular consequences of HT discontinuation. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the investigators will compare the cardiovascular consequences of abrupt and tapered modes of HT discontinuation in 150 Finnish healthy postmenopausal women under age 60 years. The primary outcome is brachial artery flow-mediated dilatation. In addition, biochemical markers will be measured during the study period of 20 weeks. Health-related quality of life, frequency of hot flush recurrence and other menopausal symptoms will be also assessed in these groups. The trial will provide new high-quality information about the cardiovascular safety as well as the correct timing and method of HT discontinuation.

The Million Hearts Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Reduction Model, run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), seeks to improve cardiovascular care by providing incentives and supports for health care practitioners to engage in patient CVD risk calculation and population-level CVD risk management. CMS enrolled organizations throughout the United States, randomly assigning half to the intervention and half to a control group. This study is an evaluation of the model and will assess the model impacts on patient outcomes, changes in CVD care processes, and implementation challenges and successes.

Comparing TR Band to Statseal in Conjunction With TR Band II

The purpose of this clinical study is to compare how well two different devices for achieving hemostasis perform in patients undergoing transradial procedures. Both devices are approved by the FDA for this use, and have already been used by clinicians on patients undergoing transradial procedures. It is believed that the use of both devices in combination compared to the hemostasis band (TR band) alone will shorten the time that it takes to 'seal' the artery, resulting in a shorter period of time that you would need to wear the hemostasis band.
