Major depressive disorder (MDD), is a major medical and economic burden for today's society. About 30% of MDD patients develop treatment-resistant depression - TRD with the related sequelae in terms of worse prognosis. If several risk factors can be assessed readily on presentation, it can guide treatment planning and ultimately improve clinical outcomes. Currently, unlike other areas of medicine, poly-risk tools to facilitate this stratification in practice among patients with MDD are lacking but demanded in the era of personalised/precision medicine - a challenge that the project takes up. Ketamine - a glutamate N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, is the first exemplary agent with rapid (within hours) antidepressant effects, even in TRD patients.Its mechanisms of actions (MoA) are still unclear but greatly demanded. So far, insights about ketamine's MoA come from preclinical animal studies but it's known that animal models have limited ability/effectiveness in mimicking the clinical complexity and were not subjected to sequential application of different treatments - a key requisite in humans to be defined as TRD. This ambitious inter/multidisciplinary project, has 3 goals: 1. To develop a clinical risk stratification tool for predicting TRD development. 2. To unravel ketamine's fast-acting antidepressant mechanisms of action (MoA) on mature neurons obtained from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) obtained from (ketamine-responsive & non-responsive) patients with TRD. 3. To give maximum visibility to the project and spreading its contents & findings to and in a way understood by all target groups variously implicated/interested in project research & innovation.
The study aimed to investigate the effect of stretching the sternocleidomastoid, pectoralis major and iliopsoas muscles on 800 meters freestyle swimming performance in master swimmers.
The main purpose of this research is evaluate if HBMT reduces HAB in Soldiers, reduces intra-team conflict, improves trust, and improves unit cohesion. A secondary purpose of this research is to test Soldier acceptability and perception of the training. Volunteers will be randomized to a training or placebo version of a computer task designed to reduce HAB and interpersonal conflict. Soldiers will then complete surveys at multiple time intervals before, during, and following deployment. If successful, this research would demonstrate the ability of a computer based training to improve unit cohesion and Soldier attitudes during pre-deployment training and deployment itself.
Determine the utility of blood resistin concentrations, when combined with clinical data, for predicting sepsis phenotypes that are associated with poor clinical outcomes. We hypothesize that resistin is a biomarker which provides critical prognostic information when used in conjunction with standard clinical data, in patients with sepsis and septic shock.
Cervical dystonia (CD) is the most common isolated dystonia in adults. Cervical dystonia symptoms can in most patients be managed well by botulinum toxin (BTX) injections, and supporting treatment measures. However, one-fifth to one-third of patients do not obtain sufficient relief from long-term BTX therapy, resulting in reduced quality of life. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a treatment method in which electrodes are surgically implanted permanently in the brain to modulate brain networks and function. In cervical dystonia, DBS of the postero-ventral part of the internal globus pallidus (GPi-DBS) has been established as an effective treatment for severe cases. However, the outcome of GPi-DBS in cervical dystonia has been reported mostly in some smaller series with up to 3 years follow-up. Thus, there is a lack of documentation of outcome of GPi-DBS in CD beyond 3 years of treatment and in larger patient materials. In this study the investigators will perform a long-term follow-up study of patients who were operated with a DBS-device targeting the GPi bilaterally, and who have been treated with chronic GPi-DBS for a minimum of 3 years. The investigators will measure the severity of symptom burden and quality of life with validated rating scales. The investigators will compare this DBS-treated cohort with an age- and gender matched group of CD patients who are receiving the standard treatment with botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) injections and have been treated for at least 3 years as well. The investigators hypothesize that the DBS-treated group will have a significantly lower burden of symptoms at long-term follow-up than the BoNT treated group.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the outcome of a Poly-ether-ether-ketone - used in single teeth implant-supported rehabilitations after one year of follow-up. The main question it aims to answer is: - What is the survival outcome of single teeth implant-supported prosthesis using Poly-ether-ether-ketone? The participants already rehabilitated with a single tooth dental implant will receive a definitive prosthesis incorporating Poly-ether-ehter-ketone.
This is an open-label, single arm, multi-center study, assessing efficacy and safety of BI-754091 in combination with afatinib as treatment in patients with advanced or metastatic ESCC refractory to at least 1 line of systemic treatment (including chemotherapy or radiation therapy).
