Pathways of Eicosanoid Metabolism

Prostaglandins are important signaling compounds formed from arachidonic acid. The enzymes that form prostaglandins, cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 are the targets of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Because prostaglandins are very unstable in the body, they can not be measured directly. Instead, their metabolites are isolated from urine or blood and quantified as markers of formation of the parent, active compounds. The investigators are testing the hypothesis that there is a previously unrecognized metabolic pathway between two prostaglandins. The investigators hypothesize that prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), in addition to its known metabolism to PGD-M, is also metabolized to 11-dehydro-thromboxane B2 (11-dehydro-TxB2).

Impact of Decision Quality by Using Question Prompt List

To investigate the effects of a question prompt list (QPL) on a shared decision-making consultation among facing decision for dialysis in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. A randomized controlled trial was conducted at the university medical center of North Taiwan. Subjects were randomized assigned to QPL group or usual care group. Decisional quality and decision control preferences were assessed with questionnaires. Measurements were performed at before the counseling (T0), immediately after counseling (T1), and evaluate decision regret at one month after treatment.

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy and Dental Faculty Staff Members in Egypt

Healthcare workers (HCWs) play a vital role in determining the success of vaccination programs. Patient acceptance and vaccination rely greatly on the utilization and attitude of HCWs towards the vaccine, their attitude also influences patients' adherence to vaccination schedules and their hesitancy. HCWs themselves can be hesitant about a certain vaccine and thus can transfer their negative attitudes to their patients, increasing vaccine hesitancy among the general population. Frontline HCWs are at an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 due to their direct contact with their patients, working hours, psychological stress and job burnout, they also face stigma. Dental health professionals in particular are at an increased risk due to their occupational hazards that include continuous exposure to body fluids and aerosols, this increases their risk of contracting COVID-19. Therefore vaccinating healthcare workers will be beneficial, not only for themselves, but also for their households and patients.

Comparison Between Oxycodone and Pregabalin as Preemptive Analgesia

All patients scheduled electively for one of four surgeries (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Submucosal resection, Breast lumpectomy, and median laparotomy) at that period of time at An-Najah National University hospital will be included in the research sample, unless not meeting with the criteria put. Primary objectives are: To evaluate the effectiveness of preemptive analgesia on postoperative pain relief and shorter hospital stay for adults undergoing surgical procedures, according to the type of surgery and the type of drug. To compare the effect of a single oral preemptive dose of Pregabalin versus Oxycodone on postoperative pain relief, in terms of pain intensity as assessed by pain numeric rating scale (NRS)
