Filter by:Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that negatively affects social interaction, communication, and behavior. Various animals have started to be used for therapeutic purposes by those in need. In recent years, especially equine-assisted therapies have become popular. However, it has been reported in the literature that more studies on this subject are needed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effects of equine-assisted therapy for children with autism on daily living activities, balance, quality of life, and sleep.
The goal of this clinical trial is by using the Cognitive Orientation Approach on Daily Occupational Performance, which is also supported by the literature and applied by occupational therapists, in children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, it is aimed to determine how children's executive function scores and occupational participation change. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Does the Cognitive Orientation Approach on Daily Occupational Performance have an effect on executive functions? - Does the Cognitive Orientation Approach on Daily Occupational Performance have an effect on occupational performance? Participants will: - Evaluations will be applied to all participants - Divided into intervention and control groups - The intervention group will be given "Cognitive Orientation Approach on Daily Occupational Performance" and "Ayres Sensory Integration Therapy" followed up for about 10 weeks. - The control group will be given "Ayres Sensory Integration Therapy" followed up for about 10 weeks. - After 10 weeks, the results between the two groups will be compared. - After the second evaluation, both groups will be followed for 1 month and the same evaluations will be repeated. Researchers will compare intervention and control groups to see executive functions and occupational participation.
It was a Randomized Clinical Trial.Data will be collected from Life care rehabilitation and special child facility.The study was completed within 6 months after approval of synopsis.The calculated sample size, through WHO sample size calculator, using Bruininks- Oseretsky test's mean and standard deviation (Mean Dynamic Balance) as outcome measure was 20 in each group. After adding 10% dropout the sample size will be 20+4=24 in each group; hence, overall sample size n= 20. Age range 5-12 years. Children with diagnosed Autism and age ranges between 5-12 will be included in the study.Convenient Sampling Technique was used to collect the data.There was two groups.In Group A SPARK therapy will be provided and in group 2 fundamental motor skill training will be provided. To assess the social skills Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-Second Edition (GARS-2) and for motor skills Bruininkse Oseretsky test of motor proficiency (BOTMP) was used.
The FOOD-AUT pilot study aimed to improve the health status of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through a nutritional intervention at canteen service. The researchers adapted the canteen menus to the nutritional and sensory needs of this vulnerable population, reducing their food selectivity and improving their dietary diversity with a positive impact on their health. This project consisted of two phases: first an observational phase (Work Package 1, WP1) and secondarily an interventional phase (Work Package 2, WP2).
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a group of serious neurodevelopmental disorders. Autistic children appear with significant frequency for medical services, lots of which requiring procedural sedation or anaesthesia. Autistic children have often been described as difficult to sedate or anesthetize due to a variety of ASD symptoms. It is a challenging task to provide safe and effective sedation during the procedure of colonic TET for FMT in autism children. The investigators intend to explore an optimum anesthetic regimen for autism children undergoing endoscopic procedures.
The purpose of this study is to examine the dose-response relationship of esketamine in combination with propofol for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder undering colonoscopy.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the benefits of a program to develop self-determination in young adults with autism. Being self-determined means acting or causing things to happen in your life. It involves deciding, acting and believing in one-self. The main question this clinical trial aims to answer is: Is the program developed useful to improve self-determination of young adults with autism? Participants will receive a group intervention to support the development of their self-determination-related skills during 20 sessions (1 session/week). Researchers will compare the self-determination outcomes between the group that receives the intervention and another group that is in a waiting list (and will receive the intervention later) to see if the changes are due to the intervention.
Autistic patients have higher chances commorbid somatic symptoms. Therefore, it leads to more health-related concerns, such as autoimmune disease, gastrointestinal disease, cardiovascular disease, autonomic disorders. On average, autistic patient's life span is 16 years shorter than non-autistic patients. Furthermore, autistic patients are not able to convey or communicate their somatic symptoms in a clear and comprehensive manner. This leads to unable to receive proper health care in a timely manner.
Individuals diagnosed with autism are also often diagnosed with anxiety disorders. Therefore, having useful strategies to manage stress and anxiety may be particularly helpful for autistic individuals. Mindfulness-based interventions, delivered in-person as well as those offered remotely online, have been found to lower stress and anxiety. Although in-person mindfulness training has been found to be helpful for autistic individuals, there is little research that has studied remote app-based mindfulness training in autistic adults. This study examines whether a six-week structured intervention, using a mindfulness app, lowers anxiety and stress in autistic adults. Participants were randomly assigned either to an intervention group, which started the intervention immediately, or a wait-list control group, which participated in the same intervention program six-weeks later. Findings will provide important information about the potential for remote app-based mindfulness training to lower stress and anxiety in adults diagnosed with autism.
Mindfulness is a technique that involves the intentional and non-judgmental regulation of attention to the present moment, with curiosity, openness, and acceptance, as per its definition. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been used to manage mood disorders in various clinical and non-clinical settings, including neurological patients and cardiovascular diseases. Studies have consistently demonstrated that MBIs reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms, as well as rumination. MBIs are considered an alternative and effective treatment for reducing psychological stress in the management of different health conditions. Virtual reality (VR) has recently been proposed as an intermediate interface to help patients with emotional dysregulation learn mindfulness practices. Within this context, new approaches to mental health integrating advanced technologies such as VR can play a critical role. In this interventional study we will seek to demonstrate the effectiveness of a virtual reality-mediated mindfulness-based intervention in a particular group of people who are constantly experiencing psychological distress due to caring for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
