Filter by:The general objective of this multicenter, international study is to perform a multivariate descriptive analysis of a large population of well-defined subjects with sensitizer-induced OA ascertained by a positive SIC result in order to provide more information on the characteristics of this condition.
The purpose of this research study is to assess at how differences in the microbiome (naturally occurring bacteria) of a baby may protect, or put a baby at risk, for allergic problems. The microbiome refers to the thousands of bacteria and molds that live in and on our bodies. The microbiome plays an important role in our health. Differences in the microbiome can affect our immune system in ways that might make some people more likely to get allergies and asthma. Early life events and exposures are very important for establishing the human microbiome. The newborn baby's microbiome changes very quickly during the first weeks and months of life. There is information that suggests C-section birth is associated with higher risk of certain diseases, including allergies and asthma. Some researchers think one reason for this is that passing through the mother's vaginal canal during birth exposes the baby to bacteria that promote healthy immune system development, something that C-section babies don't get. Transferring these potentially beneficial vaginal bacteria to C-section babies may help prevent some diseases later.
The purpose of this study is to research the differences of small airways function between subjects with diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and asthma-COPD overlap(ACO).The assessment of quality of life is also carried out through questionnaires.

This randomized, single-dose, double-blind, double-dummy, four-period, four-sequence, four-treatment, placebo and active controlled, comparative, multiple-center, crossover-design bronchoprovocation study has been designed to evaluate the pharmacodynamic equivalence of albuterol sulfate HFA inhalation aerosol, eq 90 mcg base (Amneal Ireland Limited) to PROAIR® HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol, eq 90 mcg base (Teva Respiratory, LLC) in patients with stable mild asthma.
Study Comparing the Efficacy and Safety of PT001 to Placebo and Open-label Spiriva® Respimat® in Subjects With Persistent Asthma
This research study is an innovative school-based program for urban children with moderate to severe persistent or difficult-to-control asthma. The Telemedicine Enhanced Asthma Management-Uniting Providers (TEAM-UP) program enhances a school-based, primary care directed asthma program with specialist-supported care to ensure optimal guideline based treatment. This study is a full-scale randomized trial of TEAM-UP versus an enhanced care comparison group. Primary care physicians (PCP) of all enrolled children (n=360, 4-12 yrs.) will be prompted to initiate directly observed therapy (DOT) of preventive asthma medication through school and to make a specialist referral. For children in the TEAM-UP group, the specialist visits will be facilitated via telemedicine at school. The telemedicine specialist visit will be scheduled after 4 weeks of initiating DOT, in order to allow for accurate guideline-based assessments of medication and care needs once adherence with a daily controller medication is established. There will also be 2 telemedicine follow-up specialist visits to assess the child's response to treatment and make needed adjustments. The study will use the existing community infrastructure by implementing both telemedicine and DOT in school, and maintaining collaboration with PCPs. Blinded follow-ups will occur at 3-, 6-, 9- and 12-months after baseline, and the primary outcome is the comparison of symptom-free days (SFD) at each follow-up time point.
The investigators propose a home hospital model of care that substitutes for treatment in an acute care hospital. Limited studies of the home hospital model have demonstrated that a sizeable proportion of acute care can be delivered in the home with equal quality and safety, reduced cost, and improved patient experience.
The Swiss Paediatric Airway Cohort (SPAC) is a national, prospective clinical cohort of children and adolescents who visit physicians in Switzerland for recurrent wheeze, cough, and exercise- or sleep-related respiratory problems. SPAC aims to answer important questions on clinical phenotypes, prognosis, diagnosis and treatment. SPAC is part of routine care, and only clinically indicated investigations are done. The comprehensive baseline assessment includes a detailed questionnaire to families, plus test results, diagnoses and treatments from hospital records. Follow-up is via monthly questionnaires the first 12 months and thereafter annual questionnaires to families, and data from follow-up visits. Currently, 4344 patients from 10 clinics and hospitals in Switzerland (Aarau, Basel, Bern, Chur, Horgen, Lausanne, Luzern, St. Gallen, Worb, Zurich) have been enrolled. SPAC provides real-life data on children visiting the Swiss health care system for common respiratory problems. It will provide a research platform for health services research, and for nested clinical and transitional studies. Inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) is considered the first line medication for asthma, however, the therapeutic effect is markedly different even in patients with almost similar clinical manifestations. Our study was designed to explore the clinical and genetic factors that may influence the effectiveness of ICS in asthmatic children.
