Filter by:Open label, 12-week clinical trial to assess efficacy, safety, treatment adherence and Quality of Life impact of Mometasone Furoate dry powder 400 mcg once-daily in persistent mild-moderate asthmatic patients at least 12 years old. Protocol deviations may have occurred that resulted in quality issues associated with reporting of the data.
The primary purpose of this study is to assess whether tailored patient education for patients on Symbicort® Turbuhaler® therapy improves patient satisfaction, adherence and Quality of Life.
Eleven National Sports Teams are located in the Quebec Metropolitan Area. In these groups, many athletes are aiming for Olympic medals in Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games. A consultation of the coaches of these National Teams revealed that although a large proportion of these athletes present various cardio-respiratory symptoms, they do not have a rapid access to a systematic medical evaluation and follow-up. Furthermore, little is done in regard to prevention and optimization of treatment of pulmonary and cardiac conditions in the elite athlete's population of the Quebec area. Cardiorespiratory problems are therefore commonly found in high-level athletes. However, these pathologies are not well characterized in athletes and the associated symptoms often not well perceived. These problems can be serious and it is important to detect them before they appear1 while setting up a systematic medical follow-up. Health professionals should monitor health of the young athletes and help to reduce the risks associated with high level exercise. The following project is an evaluation and follow-up program of high-level athletes, aiming at gathering key-information on long-term effects of high-level training on cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters. Our aims will be 1. to establish a long-term program of systematic evaluation and follow-up of cardiorespiratory health and performance of high elite athletes. 2. to evaluate the prevalence of respiratory, circulatory and metabolic problems among high-level athletes 3. to evaluate the effects of treatments on cardiorespiratory conditions and exercise performance in athletes who need asthma medication.
Swimmers show the highest prevalence of asthma among elite athletes, certainly due to chlorine exposure. The consequences of a chronic exposure to chlorine compounds by swimmers and the mechanisms of asthme in this population are still poorly documented. Specific diagnostic criteria have been proposed by the International Olympic Committee - Medical Council (IOC-MC) and World anti-doping agency (WADA) to determine the presence of asthma in athletes. Using the more specific bronchial provocation tests, our aims are 1. to compare the prevalence of asthma in swimmers and control subjects 2. to analyze the Influence of chlorine exposure on bronchial inflammatory processes in swimmers versus control subjects 3. to study the time-course of changes in airway symptoms, responsiveness, inflammation and remodeling after cessation of training
The purpose of the study is to evaluate in subjects suffering from nocturnal asthma, the efficacy and safety of modified release Prednisone on signs and symptoms.
Asthma is a major health problem worldwide. The measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) has been established as a valuable non invasive and simple tool in the diagnosis of asthma and may also act as a useful surrogate inflammatory marker on which to base treatment decisions in asthma management algorithms. The measurement is useful also in other respiratory diseases. Current methods of measuring FENO include on line measurements by heavy duty expensive analyzers which are not widely and easily available. Off line measurements of breath samples which can be analysed later may be a simple solution. We hypothesize tha toff line measurements of NO will be as reliable and valid as those measured on-line
The purpose of this study is to investigate, using an exercise challenge approach, the dose response of levalbuterol HFA MDI in adolescent and adult subjects with asthma
The purpose of this study is to investigate, using an exercise challenge approach, the dose response of levalbuterol HFA MDI in pediatric subjects with asthma
The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and tolerability of levalbuterol HFA metered dose inhaler (MDI) versus racemic albuterol HFA MDI.
The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and tolerability of levalbuterol HFA metered dose inhaler (MDI) versus racemic albuterol HFA MDI in pediatric subjects 4-11 years of age with asthma
