The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the long-term safety of reslizumab at a dosage of 3.0 mg/kg every 4 weeks for approximately 24 months in pediatric and adult patients with eosinophilic asthma as assessed by adverse events, physical examination findings, vital sign measurements, and concomitant medication usage throughout the study (every 4 weeks), clinical laboratory test results, and measurement of antidrug antibodies.

Asthma, Missed Immunizations, and Vitamin D Deficiency in Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin disease with pruritus as one of its main features. Because of the symptomatic nature of their condition, pediatric patients with atopic dermatitis may preferentially seek care in the subspecialty dermatology clinic while falling behind in visits to their primary care provider. This cross-sectional study in patients attending the Dermatology Clinic at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will screen for common conditions associated with atopic dermatitis and subsequently treat or refer patients for appropriate care. The investigators hypothesize that Milwaukee County pediatric patients with atopic dermatitis will have a high prevalence of asthma needing treatment, missed immunizations requiring catch-up, and vitamin D deficiency necessitating replacement therapy.

A Twelve Month Long Term Safety Study to Evaluate the Safety of Albuterol in a Dry Powder Inhaler With Both Repeated and as Needed Dosing

This is a one-year study to look at the safety of a dry powder inhaler with albuterol. After a one-week run in, for the first 3 months subjects will use an inhaler with either albuterol or a dummy drug at regular times four times a day. Then for the last nine months of the study, all subjects will be given the albuterol dry powder inhaler and will use it only when needed to help with breathing problems. Subjects will need to keep a daily diary (both paper and electronic) throughout the study recording any inhaler use and health problems. There will be visits to the study doctor about once a month for a year. This study is intended to show that the albuterol dry powder inhaler works well and is safe for use over a long period of time.

Dietary Interventions in Asthma Treatment: Sprouts Study

Sulforaphane (SFN) is a naturally occurring isothiocyanate that is a potent inducer of Phase II enzymes which play a critical role in preventing oxidative stress (via activation of Nrf2). Broccoli sprouts (BS) contain the richest source of SFN. The main objectives of this study are to test the effect of broccoli sprouts (BS) on biomarkers of oxidative stress (OS), inflammation, basophil activation, and clinical outcomes in mouse allergen-induced asthma by (1) determining if BS improves lung function and airways symptom responses in mouse-sensitized adults with asthma undergoing environmental mouse allergen challenge (EMAC), (2) examining the effect of BS on OS, inflammation, and basophil activation, and (3) examining the effect of BS on changes in OS, inflammation, and basophil activation after EMAC.

Herbal Lollipops on Oral Bacterial Levels and DMFT/Dmft Scores of Children With Asthma Using Inhalers

Young children with asthma who use drugs for their asthma are at higher risk for tooth decay. These drugs can cause (1) dry mouth from less saliva secretion and (2) acid mouth that causes teeth to become soft and bacteria to multiply. Herbal lollipops may reduce the risks of tooth decay in young children. The purpose of this research is to determine how well herbal lollipops can improve the negative effects of asthma drugs over a 6-month period. Herbal lollipops contain Chinese licorice root.

The prevalence of obesity and asthma has significantly increased over the past two decades. The purpose of this study is to try and understand the mechanism by which obesity leads to airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), one of the defining features of asthma. This research is being done to determine how weight or body size affects airway size and airway smooth muscle (ASM) tone and function. The goal of the study will be to look at if and how, weight might affect lung functioning. The investigators hypothesize that low lung volumes in obesity lead to AHR by reducing airway caliber causing increased ASM tone with impairment in deep inspiration (DI) response similar to what is seen in asthma.
