Filter by:This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) as a non-pharmacological tool against anxiety and pain during elective procedures in the catheterization laboratory (cathlab). To assess the effectiveness of VR in the clinical setting of daily practice within the cathlab, a comparative effectiveness trial will be conducted. A sample of patients scheduled for a planned procedure in the cathlab of UZ Brussel will be selected using convenience sampling. Participants eligible for this study will be assigned to either the control group or the intervention group after signing the informed consent form. The control group in this study will receive standard care according to current practice for the planned procedure, while the intervention group will receive standard care along with the virtual reality headset intervention. The primary outcome of anxiety will be measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for anxiety and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) questionnaire. The secondary outcome of pain will be measured using the VAS scale for pain. Other outcomes such as satisfaction and potential nausea during the procedure will be assessed through a questionnaire that participants will fill out after the procedure. The physician who performed the procedure in the intervention group, as well as the involved nurses during the procedure, will complete a similar questionnaire to evaluate the use of the VR headset from the operators' perspective. The outcomes of the two groups will be statistically compared using the SPSS software package.

Insomnia in adolescents and youth is a long-standing public health concern due to its high prevalence and association with various physical and mental health problems. Insomnia and psychiatric disorders are highly comorbid and intercorrelated in adolescents. Among all mental disorders, anxiety has been shown to be have high comorbidity with insomnia, affecting approximately 30% of individuals. CBT for insomnia (CBT-I) has been shown to be effective in improving sleep complaints and short-term improvement in mood while previous systematic reviews of interventional studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) interventions in treating insomnia, both as a primary condition and with other physical and/or mental health comorbidities. This study aims to compare the effect of CBT-I and CBT-I combined ACT in improving anxiety symptoms in youth.
Students within post-secondary education settings are experiencing increasing stress, distress, and mental health difficulties. Many post-secondary education settings have identified student mental health and wellbeing as a priority and yet are struggling to adequately meet the needs of students. This has led to exploring whether technology can be used to help promote mental health and wellbeing among students. The JoyPop app is one mobile mental health app with a growing evidence base. It was developed to support improved emotion regulation - a key challenge among students struggling with distress and mental health difficulties. Using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design, the primary objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the JoyPop app in improving emotion regulation among post-secondary students when compared to no intervention. The secondary objectives are to: (1) Assess change in mental health, wellbeing, and resilience between students in each condition to better understand the app's broader impact; (2) Conduct an economic analysis to determine whether receiving the app reduces other health service use and associated costs; (4) Assess students' perspective on the quality of the JoyPop app.
The goal of this observational study is to learn about pain, anxiety, and impacts on oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL) for patients before, during and after orthodontic treatment. The recruited participants with good health are from Kaohsiung medical university and local dental clinics . The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. The differences of pain, anxiety, and impacts on oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL) for patients before, during and after orthodontic treatment. 2. The correlation of pain, anxiety and oral health-related quality of life in our participant 3. The differences of seven domain in OHIP-14 scale in our participants The participants are asked to complete a self-administered in different time point.
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect that repeated, personalized virtual reality experiences have on symptom severity, comparing self-reported symptom severity both pre and post each session, and overtime across sessions. We will also determine if this intervention results in a high rating of presence in VR, and if presence is related to the magnitude of the change in symptoms.
This study is a clinical trial that aims to test and validate a music-based program called "Tuned In" in helping adolescents in Hong Kong improve their mental well-being. The researchers want to find out if the program can help participants enhance their ability to regulate their emotions, reduce mood symptoms and feelings of loneliness. Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to either the group that receives the program right away (intervention group) or the group that waits for four weeks before receiving the program (wait list group). They will take part in a group-based weekly program for four weeks. Additionally, they will be asked to complete questionnaires before and after the program to see if there are any changes in their mental well-being. The program will be delivered by a facilitator with a psychology background, and a registered music therapist. By addressing the gaps in mental health interventions for young people in Hong Kong, this study aims to contribute to the development of effective strategies to support their emotional well-being.
Creation of an adaptation of a mindfulness-based stress reduction mobile health application specifically designed for adolescents living with Type 1 diabetes. Aim to determine whether daily mindfulness improves anxiety symptoms in adolescents with Type 1 diabetes.
This study seeks to understand emotion regulation in those with anxiety using real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging neurofeedback, a tool that allows individuals to control brain activity. The goal of this project is to understand how receiving feedback about one's own brain activity relates to emotion regulation ability. This work will help the study team understand the brain areas involved in emotion regulation and could lay the groundwork to test if psychotherapy outcomes can be enhanced using neurofeedback. The study hypothesis include: - Participants receiving veritable-Neurofeedback (NF) will show a greater activation increase in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) compared to sham-NF - Participants receiving veritable-NF will show greater cognitive reappraisal (CR) ability compared to those receiving sham-NF - Prefrontal cortex activation will positively correlate with CR ability - The veritable-NF group will report decreased symptom severity and increased CR use compared to the sham-NF group - Increase in NF-induced brain activation will correlate with decreased symptom severity and increased CR use at follow-up
