Filter by:This study aims to determine the effectiveness of community engagement using M-MAMA Champions on awareness of Obstetric Danger Signs, Birth Preparedness, and Complication Readiness among Pregnant Women in Bahi, Dodoma. This is a community-based, cluster randomized controlled trial (cRCT) study, whereby 120 first and second-trimester pregnant women will be randomized at a ratio of 1:1 to the intervention and control groups. The intervention of sensitizing pregnant women on Obstetric danger signs, birth preparedness, and complication readiness by the empowered M-MAMA Champions to the intervention arm clusters will be done for one month, a two-hour session will be delivered every two weeks, using participatory learning and action model for women groups to test the effectiveness of M-MAMA Champions in improving literacy level of obstetric danger signs, birth preparedness and complication readiness and its practice among pregnant women. The following is the hypothesis being tested Null Hypothesis; There is no difference in improvement of awareness of Obstetric Danger Signs, Birth Preparedness, and Complication Readiness among Pregnant Women when community engagement is done using M-MAMA Champions compared to routine approaches. Alternative hypothesis; Community engagement using M-MAMA Champions to improve awareness of Obstetric Danger Signs, Birth Preparedness, and Complication Readiness among Pregnant Women is more effective than routine approaches. During each 2-hour session, five (5) women will gather up and discuss the obstetric danger signs, birth preparedness, and complication readiness with the assistance of the M-MAMA Champion as a facilitator. An approved brochure on the concerned subject will be used for sensitization. Baseline data will be collected before and after the intervention. The control arm won't receive any intervention.
The aim of this study is to evaluate women's perception on first-trimester preeclampsia screening as it is performed currently in daily practice. Thus, the investigators will assess the degree of satisfaction regarding the information received previously to the date of screening, and on the same day the screening is performed (at the time of first-trimester scan). Women's unsderstanding regarding preeclampsia screening will be evaluated by means of an anonymous online questionnaire. Anxiety and stress related to the results will also be assessed.
Sub-Saharan African women continue to face socio-economic challenges and limited reproductive freedoms, which diminishes their ability to exercise agency and choice in their lives and their environment. The goal of this study is to generate rigorous scientific evidence on empowering women individually and in households through a cluster randomized control trial. The trial will test the efficacy of a multi-sectoral program targeting three critical domains of female empowerment through gender socialization education, counseling and improved access to family planning, financial literacy among couples in Ibadan, Nigeria. The innovation in this approach is the focus on creating a supportive intra-familial environment to accelerate progress towards female empowerment, not just with the multi-sectoral intervention, but also by targeting both partners of couples, individually and together. It is hoped that there will be a shift of broader community norms by building the capacity of study couples to transfer their newly acquired knowledge and skills to other couples in their community, thereby creating a ripple of change.
Background: Love, Sex, and Choices (LSC) is a soap opera video series created to reduce HIV sex risk in women. Methods: LSC was compared to text messages in a randomized trial in 238 high-risk mostly Black young urban women. 117 received 12-weekly LSC videos, 121 received 12-weekly HIV prevention messages on smartphones. Changes in unprotected sex with high risk partners were compared by mixed models.
