NCT ID: NCT01039545 Terminated - Clinical trials for Urinary Tract Infections

Symptomatic Therapy of Uncomplicated Lower Urinary Tract Infections in the Ambulatory Setting.

Start date: February 2012
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

We propose to perform a randomized controlled patient and assessor blind trial in women between the ages of 18 to 70 years with acute uncomplicated UTI to evaluate initial symptomatic treatment for 3 days with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac (experimental intervention) against immediate antibiotic treatment with norfloxacin for 3 days (control intervention). Both interventions are followed by optional delayed antibiotic treatment with single dose fosfomycin if deemed necessary by the patients. The primary objective is to determine whether initial symptomatic treatment followed by optional delayed antibiotic treatment (experimental intervention) is non-inferior to immediate antibiotic treatment (control intervention) in terms of symptom resolution.

NCT ID: NCT00869427 Terminated - Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Trials

Vitamin C for Prevention of Urinary Tract Infections in the Spinal Cord Injured

Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

After spinal cord injury, patients have frequent urinary tract infections (UVI). Vitamin C is usually prescribed to prevent such infection, but the efficacy of the treatment is poorly documented. In the study, patients will be randomised either to receive vitamin C daily, or not, for one year, and clinical episodes of UVI will be registered. The null hypothesis is that vitamin C will not reduce the number of UVI episodes by 30%.

NCT ID: NCT00771316 Terminated - Clinical trials for Urinary Tract Infections

Clinical Trial to Study the Safety and Effectiveness of MK0826 and Other Antibiotic Therapy in Patients With Complicated Urinary Tract Infection (0826-054)

Start date: December 2008
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that MK0826 is comparable to Meropenem in the treatment of complicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in adults.

NCT ID: NCT00731315 Terminated - Clinical trials for Urinary Tract Infections

Computer-Assisted Treatment of Urinary Tract Infection in Emergency Departments and Community Health Centers

UTI-Kiosk
Start date: August 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Our study aims to test the utility of computer-assisted treatment for uncomplicated, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) for women receiving care in safety net health care facilities. As of November 2009, we are also testing the utility of computer-assisted treatment for certain types of complicated cystitis (i.e. women with voiding symptoms and one of the following complicating symptoms: fever, flank pain, or symptoms greater than 7 days).

NCT ID: NCT00678041 Terminated - Clinical trials for Urinary Tract Infections

Nitrofurantoin and Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

APPIC
Start date: May 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common complication after surgery for prolapse or urinary incontinence. UTIs are painful and have the potential to turn into kidney infections. We are asking women who self-catheterize after surgery to try either an antibiotic or a placebo pill so we can see if we can prevent UTIs without causing side effects. This study will not require any additional visits or blood draws. You will be asked to answer some questions, keep a brief diary of your experience, and immediately report any symptoms of a UTI to your doctor.

NCT ID: NCT00594594 Terminated - Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Trials

Adjuntive Probiotic Therapy in Treating Urinary Tract Infections in Spinal Cord Injury

Start date: September 2007
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

We hypothesize that probiotic Lactobacillus can augment antibiotic treatment of symptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI) in spinal cord injured patients, and also increase the time to the next episode of UTI.

NCT ID: NCT00560924 Terminated - Menopause Clinical Trials

Preventive Effect of Treatment With Estradiol Vaginal Tablets on Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Post-menopausal Women

Start date: March 21, 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This trial is conducted in Europe. The aim of this trial is to investigate the preventive effect of treatment with estradiol vaginal tablets on recurrent urinary tract infections (RUTI) in post-menopausal women with signs of urogenital ageing (UGA).

NCT ID: NCT00245791 Terminated - Clinical trials for Complicated Urinary Infection

Urinary Tract Infection Study With the Antibiotic Levofloxacin Given at a Higher Dose Over a Shorter Period of Time

Start date: October 2004
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of the antibiotic levofloxacin by administering a higher dose of levofloxacin and using a shorter course of therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00161330 Terminated - Clinical trials for Urinary Tract Infections

Oral vs Initial Intravenous Antibiotic Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections in Children: a RCT

Start date: June 2000
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The main objectives of the study are 1. to compare the efficacy of oral vs initial iv antibiotic treatment in children with a first episode of UTI 2. to assess the diagnostic power of the various imaging technique (renal ultrasonogram, voiding cystourethrogram, and renal scanning with technetium-99m-labeled dimercaptosuccinic acid)
