Filter by:The trial will investigate effects of daily intake of the bacterial strain Bif195 or placebo when co-administered to once-daily oral intake of 300 mg of Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA). The trial includes a run-in period of two weeks duration followed by a 4-week intervention period in which Bif195/placebo and ASA are co-administered. This period is followed by a 6-week wash-out period before a new 4-week period is performed with a cross-over Bif195/placebo intervention as well as ASA co-administration. Bif195 and placebo interventions are performed double-blinded in randomised order in a cross-over fashion for each subject.
To investigate if a daily dose of minimum 15 billion CFU of Bif195 reduces the risk of small-intestinal tissue damage in an Ibuprofen challenge model as assessed by video capsule endoscopy in a healthy US population.
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have been widely studied in elective abdominal surgeries and have shown better outcomes. However the utility of these protocols in emergency abdominal surgeries has not been widely investigated. OBJECTIVE: To study the outcomes of application of ERAS protocols in patients undergoing perforated duodenal ulcers repairs in emergency abdominal surgeries. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was conducted in Surgical Unit 1 BBH from August 2018 to December 2019 with a total sample size of 36 patients with the diagnosis of perforated duodenal ulcer. Patients were randomly divided in two groups. Group A consisted of early oral feeding group and group B consisted of traditional postoperative care group. Outcome results studied were the length of hospital stay, duodenal repair site leak, severity of pain (VAS score) and duration of post-operative ileus. Results were analysed on SPSS version 20 and chi-square and independent t-test were applied. A Phase Ib/IIa to evaluate the safety and tolerability of oral treatment with OST-122 in patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis over 28 days. This trial will also explore pharmacokinetics (PK) profile and preliminary therapeutic efficacy associated with OST-122 through biomarker analysis and clinical, endoscopic and histologic assessments.
One of the only evidence-based practices for the prevention of diabetic foot ulcer recurrence is once-daily foot temperature monitoring, which is recommended by multiple clinical practice guidelines for high-risk patients, including those with history of foot ulcers. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the use of once-daily foot temperature monitoring to reduce the occurrence and recurrence of diabetic foot ulcers and reduce total health care utilization for diabetic patients with a foot ulcer that has healed in the past 24 months.
The purpose of this study is to provide evidence that a therapy of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) disease adjusted on tight monitoring of non-invasive parameters, such as clinical symptoms and faecal calprotectin (FC) (substance that is released when intestines are inflamed and that can be measured in faeces), can provide significantly higher benefit for the participants in terms of disease control and quality of life (QoL) improvement, compared to a symptom-based approach only.
This study aims to compare the effects of Negative-Pressure Wound Therapy and wet-to-dry dressing on Stages 3 and 4 pressure injuries, and to investigate the consistency of Three-Dimensional Wound Measurement Device findings with Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing Tool scores. This study is a randomized controlled trial. A total of 30 patients with Stages 3 and 4 pressure injuries were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups: the experimental group or Negative-Pressure Wound Therapy group and the control or wet-to-dry dressing group. All patients received 3 rounds of treatment. Data were collected with a Patient Identification Form, Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing Tool and the findings of Three-Dimensional Wound Measurement Device. We found that granulation tissue formation was more significant in the experimental group (p < .05), and that there was more significant wound shrinkage (p < .05) with a more significant decrease in the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing Tool scores (p < .05). The wounds were assessed with the Tool and the Three-Dimensional Wound Measurement device. Device measurements were found to be correlated with Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing Tool Tool findings (p < .05) There was a significant correlation between device-measured granulation findings and PUSH Tool score results of the experimental group's third measurements (p < .05). We conclude that Negative-Pressure Wound Therapy is an effective treatment method for pressure injuries, and Three-Dimensional Wound Measurement device is an usable wound assessment tool.
A randomized, split-plot, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The varicose ulcer is divided into two (side A and B). Half of the wound's surface is treated locally with insulin (Glargine) applied at an approx depth of 3-4 mm. Treatment with insulin is administered for 7 days. Biopsy specimens of the two sides are obtained on days 0 and 7. A thermographic photograph of the wound is taken at days 0 and 7. The number of blood vessels and fibroplasia is evaluated as the main outcome.
