Filter by:RATIONALE: Low dose deferasirox may be safe and effective in treating patients who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplant and have iron overload. PURPOSE: This pilot clinical trial studies safety and tolerability of deferasirox in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients who have iron overload. Effect of low dose deferasirox on labile plasma iron is also examined.
RATIONALE: Collecting and storing samples of blood, urine, and tissue from patients undergoing a donor stem cell transplant to test in the laboratory may help the study of graft-versus-host disease in the future. PURPOSE: This research study is collecting and storing tissue and DNA samples from patients undergoing a donor stem cell transplant.
RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood in the laboratory from patients with cancer may help doctors learn more about nausea and vomiting caused by cancer treatment. PURPOSE: This laboratory study is looking at blood samples from patients with cancer who were treated on a clinical trial to control nausea and vomiting during donor stem cell transplant.
This laboratory study is collecting tumor tissue and blood samples from patients with gynecologic tumors. Collecting and storing samples of tumor tissue and blood from patients with cancer to study in the laboratory may help in the study of cancer.
RATIONALE: Ondansetron may help lessen or prevent nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well ondansetron works in preventing nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing stem cell transplant.
RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors predict whether patients undergoing donor stem cell transplant will develop acute graft-versus-host disease. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying T cells to see how well they help in predicting acute graft-versus-host disease in patients undergoing donor stem cell transplant.
This phase II trial studies how well a second curettage (removal of the abnormal cancer cells in the uterus using a method of surgically removing the lining of the uterus) works in treating patients with gestational trophoblastic tumors that did not go away after a first curettage (persistent) and has not yet spread to other places in the body (non-metastatic). A second curettage may be effective in treating persistent gestational trophoblastic tumors and may decrease the likelihood that patients will need chemotherapy in the near future.
RATIONALE: Alemtuzumab and glucocorticoids, such as prednisone or methylprednisolone, may be an effective treatment for acute graft-versus-host disease caused by a donor stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving alemtuzumab together with glucocorticoids works in treating newly diagnosed acute graft-versus-host disease in patients who have undergone donor stem cell transplant.
RATIONALE: Lithium carbonate may be an effective treatment for intestinal graft-versus-host disease caused by a donor stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying lithium carbonate in treating patients with acute intestinal graft-versus-host-disease after donor stem cell transplant.
RATIONALE: A donor stem cell transplant can lower the body's immune system, making it difficult to fight off infection. Giving antibiotics, such as moxifloxacin, may help prevent bacterial infections in patients who have recently undergone donor stem cell transplant. It is not yet known whether moxifloxacin is more effective than a placebo in preventing bacterial infections in patients who have recently undergone donor stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying moxifloxacin to see how well it works compared with a placebo in preventing bacterial infections in patients who have recently undergone donor stem cell transplant.
