Comparative Evaluation of Continuous and Pulse Mode of Ultrasound Therapy in Myalgia of Maxillofacial Region

Pain and trismus caused by Myalgia in masticatory muscles are one of the prime concerns for the patients. Various studies have been performed using US therapy for myofascial pain syndrome of head & neck region. US is a non-invasive frequently used physical agent which increase blood flow in tissues and collagen fibers ability to grow, & reduce muscle spasm with its thermal effect. It is difficult to imply the results of studies performed in muscles of other regions of body to the maxillofacial region because of the superficial placement of these muscles.US is being frequently used for myofascial pain, but there is an absence of a consensus regarding the frequency and mode of administration available in literature for administration of this therapy in maxillofacial region. Therefore, the present study has been designed to compare the therapeutic effect of two modes of US i.e., continuous and pulsed at 3 MHz frequency

Contribution of Erector Spina Plane Block to Analgesia for Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Myofascial pain syndrome is a common chronic disease characterized by pain and tenderness in one or more muscle groups. It is characterized by myofascial trigger points that are felt as a band or a nodule harder than normal consistency located in the muscle. Myofascial trigger points are developes as a result of muscle injury ; this can be acute trauma caused by sport injury, accident, or chronic muscle overuse by repetitive occupational activities, emotional stress or poor posture. Trigger point injection is the application of low dose local anesthetic drug into the trigger point.Its main purpose is to weaken the trigger point caused by muscle spasm.However, it may reduce pain partially or have a short duration of action, so it may need to be repeated several times at regular intervals.Trigger point injection can reach trigger points in superficial muscles With the erector spina plane block technique, more effective and long-term pain treatment can be achieved by reaching deeper trigger points. With this hypothesis, we aimed to investigate the contribution of the erector spina plane block to trigger point injection in the treatment of myofascial pain.

Effects of Deep Trigger Point Dry Needling on Strength Measurements of the Gluteus Medius Musculature

The purpose of this study will be to assess the effect that the application of deep trigger point dry needling to latent trigger points has on strength measurements. Specifically, the effect of deep trigger point dry needling on the strength measurements of the gluteus medius musculature immediately following intervention will be investigated. The author hypothesizes that there will be a significant difference in strength measurements of the gluteus medius musculature between the intervention and controls sides as well as within the intervention and control sides prior to and immediately following the application of deep trigger point dry needling. It is the authors' intention that clinicians may be able to apply the results of this study to generate a safe and effective treatment plan that can reduce the risk for trunk and lower extremity injuries within their patient population by reducing the number of latent trigger points within muscle tissue.
