Filter by:The goal of this pre-post-follow-up study is to examine how well the treatment Dialectical behavior therapy for adolescents (DBT-A) with a duration of 20 weeks for adolescents with self-harm and suicidal behavior works in routine clinical practice. The main questions it aims to answer are: - to investigate how well DBT-A works after treatment and at 3-month follow-up, measured by episodes of self-harm, suicide attempts, depressive symptoms and quality of life, drop-out from treatment and number of possible participants who decline DBT-A. - to investigate how well DBT-A works at 12 months follow-up - to investigate whether pre-treatment factors can predict who will benefit from treatment
Behavioral activation is one such empirically supported intervention. Derived from cognitive-behavioral therapy, a well-established treatment for depression, behavioral activation uses psychoeducation and skill-building to increase an individual's engagement in valued and enjoyable activities (e.g., socializing with family and friends, exercising, participating in a hobby) in order to improve depressive symptoms. Research has shown that behavioral activation is an effective intervention for depressed youth. Additionally, it has been shown as a promising intervention that can be conducted in a brief, virtual format and can be effectively implemented by both trained clinicians and trained, non-licensed interventionists. This project will provide Behavioral Activation for youth (12-17) experiencing depression or suicidal ideation who are currently enrolled in the Youth Depression Suicide Network study in Texas.
Suicide is the leading cause of death due to illness among Canadian youth, claiming more lives than any medical illness, including cancer. Suicide prevention is possible, and early intervention is needed. The investigators will examine the effectiveness of a previously-piloted, ED-based suicide prevention intervention, across Canadian sites, using a randomized clinical trial design. The investigators will determine whether the patient- and family-centered intervention is more effective than enhanced usual care in reducing suicide-related behaviors in 330 youth at high-risk of suicide.
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been successfully used to help patients with treatment resistant depression. However, its role in alleviating self injuries with and without suicidal ideation remained uncertain. This trial will compare the effectiveness of active accelerated intermittent theta burst stimulation (aiTBS) rTMS to a placebo control on non-suicidal self injury (NSSI) and suicidal attempts in patients with major depressive disorder.
Pragmatic randomized controlled trial to compare the effectiveness of two-way Caring Contacts text messages vs. one-way Caring Contacts text messages vs. enhanced usual care for suicide prevention in adults and adolescents.
Suicide is among the leading causes of death worldwide, and the risk of suicide is highest in the period immediately following discharge from inpatient psychiatric care.1Importantly, despite the enormously elevated risk during this period, nearly 50% of patients do not attend scheduled therapy after discharge. Even among those who do attend therapy, however, the skills learned in treatment may be difficult to use during the highly distressing time leading up to and during a suicide crisis. Most traditional treatments are not designed to be effective during a suicide crisis. In order to reduce the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in general and specifically during the post-discharge period, interventions are needed that: (1) are easily adhered to and (2) are accessible and effective during a suicide crisis. As such, the purpose of this research study is to test an innovative, new intervention in order to develop an effective and accessible intervention for those at high risk for suicide
Suicide is the leading cause of death in the age span 10-19 years in Sweden. The most robust predictor of future suicide attempt and suicide death is prior suicide attempt. Yet, most youths presenting with suicidal behavior to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Stockholm, Sweden are not offered evidence-based care directly targeting suicide risk. Safe Alternatives for Teens and Youths (SAFETY) is a novel scalable suicide prevention program designed to fill this critical gap. SAFETY is a cognitive behavioral family treatment incorporating elements from Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Multisystemic Therapy. SAFETY has shown promise in reducing suicide attempts in two small-N trials. In a randomized controlled feasibility trial, the investigators will examine the feasibility of SAFETY and an active control condition named Supportive Therapy at post-treatment, 3 and 12 months after treatment on youth suicidal behavior. Evaluations of feasibility, acceptability, and safety based on data from this pilot trial will guide and inform the design of a full-scale randomized controlled trial.
Suicide is a major public health issue. Repeated self-harm may lead to potential future suicide deaths. In addition, it may lead to substantial loss in medical costs. Recently, smartphones have been widely used. Researchers started to apply mobile health to support individuals with self-harm experiences and to combine brief contact interventions which require lower cost to reduce repeated self-harm. However, the research evidence remains sparse. Furthermore, self-harm behaviors might be influenced by different cultural contexts. There is a need to conduct local studies in Taiwan. The aim of this study is to establish a co-design team which includes service users and service providers, to collaboratively develop a text- and web-based brief contact intervention (BCI) to reduce repeated self-harm, and to evaluate the feasibility of the intervention.
This randomized comparative effectiveness trial will compare two evidence-based approaches to emergency care for youth ages 15-24 who present to the Emergency Department (ED) with suicidal ideation or behavior. OUtcomes will be monitored at baseline and at 3, 6 & 12 month follow-up assessments.
The primary aim of the present study is leverage existing infrastructure to develop novel technological features for a novel personalized smartphone intervention system, called the Mobile Application to Prevent Suicide (MAPS), and to establish feasibility, acceptability, safety, and estimate key parameters for secondary outcomes (i.e., suicidal ideation and behavior; re-hospitalization).
