Patients with a chronic kidney disease who opt for hemodialysis, needs a well-functioning hemodialysis access. The autologous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is recognized as the golden standard of dialysis access. Unfortunately a great number of the AVFs fail to mature, and therefore cannot be used for dialysis. A significant stenosis is a major cause of nonmaturing AVFs. Remarkable are the stenoses that seem to develop in the venous outflow tract where the vascular clamp was located during surgery. The primary aim of this study was to compare bloodless surgery using vascular clamps and a tourniquet with respect to the development of hemodynamic or anatomical significant stenosis in patients with a brachiocephalic or radiocephalic AVF.

A Prospective Study to Compare Bupivacaine and Exparel Versus Bupivacaine or Exparel Alone for Postoperative Pain Relief

The purpose of this study is to collect information about how patients feel when doctors manage their pain after lumbar spine surgery using a combination of EXPAREL® and bupivacaine injected into the lumbar spine at the end of surgery, compared to the patients that doctors use only EXPAREL® or bupivacaine to manage their pain. This information will help doctors determine which approach works best for patients who will receive surgery in their lumbar spine in the future.

Clinical Evaluation of GENEX® DS in Instrumented Posterolateral Fusion

The overall goal of this clinical study is to characterize the fusion rate of geneX® ds bone graft substitute in comparison to autograft, which is considered the gold standard for posterolateral fusion. Assessments are made using AP and Lateral x-rays, F/E x-rays, and CT scans geneX® ds has been cleared by the FDA for use in these procedures; however this study will allow more detailed characterization of geneX® ds performance in the long-term (1 year). By using the patient as their own control, direct comparison to autograft can be performed while minimizing other variables.

Evaluation of Radiographic and Patient Outcomes Following Lumbar Spine Fusion Using Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) Mixed With Autograft

The purpose of this study is to compare Optecureā„¢ as an autograft extender (treatment) to autograft alone (control) in patients undergoing 1 or 2 level fusion of the lumbar spine(one level is defined as two adjacent vertebrae), L2 and below. The primary endpoint will be the assessment of fusion by evaluation of x-rays taken following surgery at each visit. The x-ray evaluation will be conducted by a radiologist who is blinded to the type of treatment each patient has received. Subjects will be seen at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months postoperative (post-op). Questionnaires and x-rays will be completed at each visit and a computed tomography (CT) scan will be taken at the 12 month visit(and used to aid in assessment of bridging bone, where appropriate).

Abciximab for Prevention of Stroke Recurrence Before Endarterectomy in Symptomatic Carotid Stenosis

The purpose of the present prospective, randomized, double-blind, double dummy controlled multicenter pilot study is to investigate whether abciximab, compared with aspirin, is able to reduce the rate of recurrent ischemic strokes before and during carotid endarterectomy [CEA] (primary endpoints); and the degree of carotid stenosis, number of microembolic signal (MES) counts, number of ischemic infarcts at diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and amount of intraluminal thrombus at pathological examination (secondary endpoints) in patients with ischemic stroke due to a >50% carotid stenosis who will undergo CEA.
