NCT ID: NCT04772976 Completed - Clinical trials for Ankylosing Spondylitis

Relationship Between Diet, Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Ankylosing Spondylitis

Start date: November 16, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between dietary intake, blood total antioxidant capacity and disease activity in individuals with AS. This study will include patients diagnosed with AS who applied to Ankara City Hospital Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital, and a control group that does not have AS. The sociodemographic characteristics and nutritional habits and 1-day physical activity status of individuals with AS and healthy persons will be recorded. Anthropometric measurements of all individuals (such as height length (cm) and body weight) will be taken. From the height and body weight measurements, the individuals body mass indexes will be calculated. All parts of the questionnaire for individuals included in the research will be filled in by the researcher through face-to-face interview technique. The disease activity score of the individuals in the case group will be evaluated by the physician. Serum biochemical parameters will be taken from the patient files. In the patient information system of the control group, above mentioned blood tests will be recorded from the examinations performed in the last 1 month. Serum total antioxidant and oxidant levels will be measured in a private laboratory with a tube (5 ml) of blood from all individuals. The parameters to be examined in blood samples are specific to the study and their cost will be covered by the researchers.

Forty-five AS patients and 35 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Patients diagnosed with AS according to Modified New York criteria were included in the study. Clinical and laboratory measurements, duration of symptoms, age and body mass index (BMI) of AS patients were performed and compared with age and BMI matched control group.

NCT ID: NCT04735081 Enrolling by invitation - Clinical trials for Infectious; Spondylitis

Prolonged Bed Rest Versus Early Raising in Vertebral Osteomyelitis

SPONDYL'UP
Start date: January 1, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Infectious vertebral osteomyelitis are infectious diseases of the vertebral bone, intervertebral disc and/ or adjacent tissue. Most of cases are due to hematogenous dissemination of pathogen but direct inoculation is an aetiology after surgery. Majority of cases concern adults after 50 years and the annual incidence ranging between 0.5 and 2.4 cases per 100 000 habitants in Europe but seems to increase during last 20 years. The infectious spondylodiscitis is an important source of morbidity and mortality. The treatment is based on pathogen adapted antimicrobial therapy, which may be associated with bedrest. Surgical act is necessary when neurological complication occurs or when vertebral column instability is too important. The immobilization in bed is use to limit pain and neurological complications. However, the immobilization is based on few literature data and causes important complications especially in elderly. The of immobilization in Nancy universitity hospital changed in 2019 after institutional recommendations based on expert opinion which recommend an early verticalization of uncomplicated spondylodiscitis. The investigators aimed to evaluate the consequences of this practice change on the hospitalization duration and complication rates due to spondylodiscitis and immobilization.

NCT ID: NCT04732117 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Non-radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis

The purpose of this study is to evaluate efficacy, safety and tolerability of secukinumab in Chinese patients with active nr-axSpA. Treatment difference of secukinumab 150mg vs. placebo in Chinese nr-axSpA patients in terms of ASAS 40 response rate as well as safety profile will be provided by the study.

NCT ID: NCT04731831 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Arthritis, Rheumatoid

Characterization of Immunogenicity of TNF Inhibitors in Arthritis Patients With Poorer Treatment Response.

Start date: August 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim of the study is to explore whether the influence of gender, tobacco smoking and obesity on treatment response in tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFIs) can be explained by high degree of inflammation, human leucocyte antigen (HLA) type, autoantibodies, TNF and TNFI concentration and presence of ADA.

NCT ID: NCT04713995 Terminated - Clinical trials for Axial Spondyloarthritis

Microbiome and Axial Spondyloarthritis

Start date: June 22, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this interventional study is to identify the root cause(s) of AxSpA (Axial Spondyloarthritis) relapses, which are likely due to the combination of nutrition, gut microbiome activities, leaky gut, and human genes (particularly from the immune system). This will be done by identifying molecular features of the microbiome that are associated with AxSpA flares, progression and relapses. The study will recruit participants with confirmed AxSpA diagnosis and who are HLA-B27 positive. During screening potential participants allow access to medical records to confirm eligibility requirements, such as diagnosis. Once enrolled, collection kits are sent to participants to collect samples using at-home collection kits and then provide a fasting blood sample at a local lab. Samples are then analyzed to identify features that likely cause AxSpA issues. Survey's are also answered to collect additional health data. Scientists will then use the data to identify the features that likely cause AxSpA flares and relapses.

NCT ID: NCT04713813 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

Effectiveness of Hippotherapy Simulator in Ankylosing Spondylitis

Start date: January 13, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Recent studies and meta-analysis showed that different exercise plans had greater benefits than no invention group in improving pain, physical function, and disease activity, especially in some studies that involve ankylosing spondylitis patients receiving home-based exercise. Different kinds of exercises are efficacious and should be recommended to AS patients. But, according to our current knowledge, no clear protocols regarding the effectiveness of hippotherapy in AS patients. This study aims to investigate the effect of the therapeutic horseback riding therapy via a mechanical simulator on disease-specific outcomes and muscle strength of ankylosing spondylitis patients.
