Filter by:Individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) have to cope with drug-related cues and contexts, which can affect instrumental drug seeking as shown with Pavlovian to instrumental transfer (PIT) paradigms in animals and humans. The investigators aimed to investigate the impact of acute and chronic stress on Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT), how PIT it is associated with cognitive control abilities and whether such effects predict losing vs. regaining control in subjects with AUD. Moreover, the investigators aimed to develop a novel full transfer task that assesses both, general and specific PIT to investigate whether specific PIT differs between alcohol use disorder (AUD) and control subjects.
The goal of this evaluation study is to evaluate the KickAsh! intervention, an intervention aiming to prevent smoking initiation in adolescents living in vulnerable socioeconomic situations. This intervention will be implemented in youth social work organisation that offer sport and/or recreational activities for these adolescents. Youth workers will act as implementers of the intervention. The main aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the intervention, whether it does or does not produce change in the smoking initiation behaviour of adolescents (= effect evaluation). Secondly, the study aims to evaluate the implementation process to generate more understanding concerning why the intervention does or does not produces change. Therefore, it will be investigated how the intervention was implemented, what exactly was implemented, in which context the intervention was implemented... (= process evaluation) For the effect evaluation adolescents will be asked to fill in a questionaire at three time points. For the process evaluations interviews and focus groups will be organised with the adolescents and youth workers respectively. Two groups will participate to this study: one group existing of organisations where the intervention will be implemented (=intervention group), and one group where the intervention will not be implemented (= control group).
The goal of this research study is to test an intervention to help quit tobacco use in participants with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The study interventions used in this research study are: - Positively Smoke Free - Mobile (PSF-M) (mobile behavioral program) - Varenicline (or Chantix, apovarenicline, Champix or Nocrav)
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of a pharmacist-delivered MTM (medication therapy management) approach, called QuitAid, to quitting cigarette smoking in rural Appalachia. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Is QuitAid, alone or combined with other quitting tobacco treatments, effective? - What makes QuitAid easy or hard to carry out? Is it cost effective? Is it easy to maintain? Treatment: All participants will be given at least 4 weeks of the nicotine patch. Some participants will be randomized (like the flip of a coin) to receive additional treatments (listed below). These groups will be compared to each other to see which combination works best to help them quit smoking. - Smokefree TXT - a texting program that helps people quit smoking - Tobacco quitline - 4 phone sessions to help people quit smoking - 8 weeks of NRT (nicotine replacement therapy in the form of nicotine patches or nicotine patches and lozenge) medication instead of 4 weeks - QuitAid - An MTM program given by the patient's pharmacist. This is a quitting smoking coaching program - Nicotine patch AND nicotine lozenge instead of just nicotine patches
The inequity in cessation resources is at forefront in the recently enacted nationwide smoking ban in public housing facilities. The critical component lacking from the federal decree was a practical smoking cessation strategy to address the real-world needs of active smokers who maintain cigarette usage. The investigator's proposal is ideally situated for this contemporary moment when low-income smokers in public housing are signing leases describing the potential for smoking-related evictions and thus at least contemplating smoking modification. The investigator's project is centered around the residents of Baltimore City Public Housing which is among the larger-sized U.S. public housing agencies. Using a human-centered design (HCD) approach, the investigators are refining and testing a community-centric cessation strategy defined by two core elements: a) durable and jointly linked community/hospital infrastructure systems (remote cessation specialist staffing and drug supplies) and strong on-site (public housing) residential leadership commitment to cessation improvement. These dual features, along with adaptable elements that can be modified to a variety of local/national housing settings, defines how the investigator's project will overcome the implementation gaps defining failed smoking cessation efforts in lower-income settings. The objective of this project is to test the feasibility of the intervention package among local housing contextual factors that could impact both the acceptability and adoptability of the investigator's project. Using a collection of formative and implementation evaluation measures, the investigator's academic-community partnership project is well positioned to create an adaptable and customizable intervention that can be scaled in similar housing populations.
We seek to refine and evaluate the novel mobile intervention, Mobile Anxiety Sensitivity Program for Smoking (MASP) which was initially developed and previously tested by our team, targeting sensitivity to interoceptive stress, and to apply it among African American smokers. Our culturally adapted intervention is framed within a sociocultural context of interoceptive stress, which is supported by theory, empirical evidence, and characteristics of African American smokers. The MASP app contains educational content on the history of tobacco and the African American community.

This study will evaluate the effectiveness of HaRTS-TRENDS compared to standard care (i.e., brief advice to quit + referral to state quit line that offers free NRT) in facilitating a biochemically verified nonsmoking and b) reducing smoking-related harm as measured by concentration of urinary tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs). Potential underlying mechanisms of changes in the proposed outcomes--including nicotine craving and smoking reduction, respectively--will be tested.
