Web-based Educational Intervention on Breastfeeding Self-efficacy and Breastfeeding Outcome

Background: Maternal and paternal breastfeeding self-efficacy is an important factor and could be modified in improving breastfeeding outcomes. Conducting breastfeeding educational intervention that involves the husband as well as incorporating a web-based platform based on breastfeeding self-efficacy theory is needs to be explored. Objectives: The aim to investigate the effectiveness of the web-based educational intervention on breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding outcomes. Methods: A randomized control trial will be conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the web-based educational intervention on breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding outcomes. 80 mothers and fathers from primary health care and public hospital in Jakarta will be recruited in this study and will randomly allocate using block randomization. The participants in the intervention group will receive standard usual care and web-based educational intervention, while the control group will receive usual care. The outcomes of this study are breastfeeding self-efficacy, depression, anxiety, infant feeding attitude, as well as breastfeeding outcomes that will be measured at baseline, 38 weeks of pregnancy, 1 week, 1, 3, and 6 months. A generalized Linear Model will be used to test the effect of the intervention for the group, time as well as group and time interaction. Anticipatory result:The educational intervention will be effective in helping mothers and fathers receiving interventions to have higher breastfeeding self-efficacy, lower levels of depression and anxiety, higher breastfeeding attitude as well as exclusive breastfeeding rate compared to mothers and fathers in the control group. Effectiveness of 'Supportive Parenting App' on Parental and Newborn Outcomes

The Supportive Parenting App is a theory-based perinatal educational intervention for couples administered through a mobile application. The intervention comprise of knowledge-based content, informational videos and audio, discussion forum, peer volunteer chat group, and a frequently asked questions (FAQ) expert advice section. The aims of the study are to: 1. develop theory-based supportive parenting App (SPA) intervention for both first-time and experienced parents across perinatal period 2. examine its effectiveness on parental outcomes: including maternal depression at 12 months postpartum (primary outcome), paternal depression, parental anxiety, parenting self-efficacy, help - seeking behavior (social support), parental bonding and parenting satisfaction (secondary outcomes); and new-born outcomes: physical, social and emotional developments (secondary outcomes) 3. evaluate SPA's cost-effectiveness as compared to standard perinatal care across major restructured hospitals, and 4. examine the perceptions of parents in receiving this intervention. When compared with those in the control group receiving standard care: 1. parents receiving SPA intervention will have better- emotional well-being (reduced depression and anxiety);parenting self-efficacy; social support; bonding and satisfaction. 2. new-borns of parents receiving SPA will have better physical, social and emotional development 3. It will be more cost-effective to provide SPA than the standard care

The Effect of Coaching Strategy on Some Patient Outcomes After Total Knee Arthroplasty Surgery

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA); It is frequently applied to adults, especially those over the age of 55. Total knee arthroplasty surgery is among the surgeries with a high satisfaction rate for the patient, although complications can develop and this rate varies between 1.65-11.3%. It has a privileged place in the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of the problems and complications that may occur. In this way, patients' anxiety will be reduced, self-care competence will be provided, recovery process will be accelerated, quality of life and care satisfaction will increase. In this context, the training, information, skill-building, counseling and care practice that the nurse will provide to the patient; With the results to be obtained from this study, patients with TKA can be given pre-operative and post-operative nursing care using a nurse coaching strategy, and patients' anxiety level, pain control, patient satisfaction It is predicted to have a positive effect on self-care ability and re-hospitalization rates. Thus, it is thought that both quality healthcare services will be provided and will contribute to the creation of evidence-based data. It is thought that the study will also contribute to the dissemination of the pre-operative and postoperative nurse coaching strategy in patients undergoing TKA, and will guide the planning of nursing education. This study is an experimental study to determine the effect of continuous nursing care given with a coaching strategy to patients scheduled for TKA surgery on anxiety, pain, self-care ability, satisfaction, and re-hospitalization. The study will be carried out in Konya Private Hospital. Data collection time is set as September-December 2020. Data will be collected by the researcher using the Diagnostic questionnaire form, State Anxiety Scale, Visual Analog Scale, Newcastle Nursing Care Satisfaction Scale, Modified Barthel index and Self-Care Ability Scale. In this context, the training, information, skill-building, counseling and care practice that the nurse will provide to the patient; It will contribute to achieving the desired results by positively affecting both the success of the surgery and the healing process of the patient.

E-learning in Patient Education to Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that primarily causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. The disease may reduce normal functioning and thereby quality of life. Patient education (PE), with the aim of supporting patients to self-manage their disease is an important part of the treatment and care to patients with RA. PE supports people in living with RA by offering knowledge of the disease, symptoms and treatment as well as guidance in coping with the disease in everyday life. In recent years, the number of people with RA has risen and in general people lives longer. This places new demands on the healthcare system for alternatives to conventional care, e.g. through web technology and remote care. Often PE is provided through face-to-face interactions with health professionals at the hospital and thus far, only a small number of studies have been conducted within the area of web-based PE targeting people with RA. A few studies within RA and other chronic diseases shows that online tools and online educational programs may enhance patient's knowledge of the disease and treatment and improve self-management and quality of life. Internet and technology is a great part of everyday life, however, variation is seen in computer skills and likewise in health literacy skills. Even so, PE based on web technology may have several advantages, e.g. the accessibility and the possibility to seek for information as needed and repeatedly in familiar surroundings and possibly with relatives. Moreover, the integration of words and images can promote deeper understanding and learning since both auditory and visual channels are used. Possible disadvantages may be related to the absence of face-to-face contact with healthcare professionals. Given the need for alternative solutions to the conventional face-to-face contact, the investigators have developed an e-learning program targeting newly diagnosed patients with RA. The purpose of the program is to support self-management of the disease. The program takes into consideration peoples different competencies and assumptions by presenting information in an easy, inspiring and entertaining way. The program consists of three learning modules covering knowledge of the disease, medication, examinations, complications and daily living with RA, e.g. coping with emotions, pain, fatigue, physical activity, work etc. In keeping with different ways of learning and to support people's different competencies, the program offers a combination of animations, graphics, videos, podcasts, quizzes, written text and spoken words. Given the limited evidence about the effectiveness of web-based PE in RA, the intention behind the study is to evaluate the e-learning program. The project will be divided into three parts. In the first part the effect of the e-learning program will be evaluated. Approximately 200-230 patients from four rheumatology clinics in Denmark will be included. Half of the participants will receive education at home through the e-learning program and the other half will receive conventional education at the hospital. The effect of PE will be evaluated through questionnaires covering self-efficacy, knowledge of RA and medication, medication taking, health literacy skills and quality of life. Additionally, disease activity, physical functioning, pain and fatigue will be measured. Furthermore, the investigators will examine the use of the e-learning program, such as time consumption and completed modules. Finally, telephone contacts from patients to the outpatient clinics will be measured to investigate possible causal relationships between the information provided through PE and the need for additional information or guidance related to self-management. The number of out-patient visits in the clinic will also be measured. In the second part the investigators will explore the perceptions of receiving PE through the e-learning program from the perspective of patients with RA. This will be explored through individually interviews with approximately 20-25 patients. In the third part the complexities in the e-learning program to improve chances of success in implementation of the technology in clinical practice, i.e. outside the project, will be explored. Through focus group interviews with nurses and doctors involved in the project, the investigators will explore perspectives of using the program. The interviews will be based on a framework covering both successes, challenges and failures in relation to the technology, the patient group, values and the organisation. Furthermore, the investigators will revisit the patient interviews from the second part in order to obtain information about these aspects from the patient perspective. The investigators hypothesize that the e-learning PE program will be superior to standard face-to-face PE in improving self-efficacy.

The purpose of this study is to refine and pilot test a mobile health (mHealth), video-based family management program for parents of preterm infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). By moving beyond the basic infant care tasks taught by parenting programs and instead comprehensively training parents to use evidence-based family management skills, we hypothesize that our intervention, called PREEMIE PROGRESS, will better equip parents to meet the chronic, complex healthcare needs of their preterm infant.
