RATIONALE: Polyunsaturated fatty acids are important for normal growth and development. One type, called omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish, fish oil, and some other foods), may affect the growth of prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying polyunsaturated fatty acids in treating patients with prostate cancer undergoing prostate biopsy and/or surgery.

Adjuvant Docetaxel-Zoledronic Acid in High-risk Early Prostate Cancer Following Prostatectomy.

A Phase IIb Randomised Clinical Trial of the Tolerability, Safety and Efficacy of Adjuvant Docetaxel-Zoledronic Acid After Prostatectomy for High-risk Early Prostate Cancer (AD-ZAP).

Radical prostatectomy is used to treat early prostate cancer in otherwise well men, but is followed by later cancer relapse in 1 in 4 cases. This study aims to see if post-operative adjuvant therapy with a combination of zoledronic acid and docetaxel might help reduce relapse in such cases. Patients will be randomized to receive the adjuvant combination therapy or no therapy. All patients will be monitored closely for signs of relapse and treated appropriately with conventional salvage therapy.

Daily-Adaptive Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Biochemically Recurrent, Radiologic Apparent Prostate Cancer After Radical Prostatectomy

There is significant, proven use of radiation for recurrent prostate cancer after surgical resection. This treatment typically is delivered over seven and a half weeks of daily treatments, presenting a burden to patients and the health care system. Stereotactic body radiation (SBRT) is a radiation technique in which large doses are delivered over a short period of time. To date there is extremely limited evidence in SBRT for recurrent prostate cancer after surgery, with a significantly growing body of evidence for primary SBRT treatment of prostate cancer in men who opt for non-surgical upfront treatment. Additionally, advances in imaging have allowed better detection of the site of recurrence, and novel artificial intelligence aided daily-adaptive radiation therapy have allowed more precise delivery of radiation doses. This study seeks to evaluate the role of Daily-Adaptive with AI-assisted SBRT in the post operative setting utilizing Ethos Plan Adaptive technology in attempt to maintain control and minimize side effects.

Weight Loss Interventions to Reduce Cancer Progression in Prostate Cancer Patients Under Active Surveillance

This clinical trial examines weight loss interventions in reducing cancer progression in prostate cancer patients under active surveillance. Intensive lifestyle interventions that recommend modest reductions in daily caloric intake (i.e. continuous calorie energy reduction [CER]) are the gold-standard for weight loss, and have been tested in cancer survivors, including prostate cancer patients. However, few interventions have been developed for low-risk prostate cancer patients on active surveillance. Intermittent fasting (IF) may be superior to CER in the context of prostate cancer progression given its dual role in weight loss and metabolic switching from the use of glucose as a fuel source to the use of fatty acids and ketone bodies. This study may help researchers determine which weight loss strategies can reduce their risk of prostate cancer recurrence, and other negative health effects of being overweight or obese.
