Filter by:A normative development concerning the mechanical resistance tests of the the femoral stems led to contraindicate, in September 2014, to implant Meije Duo ™ femoral stems size 1 or 2 in patients weighing more than 60 kg due to an assumed risk of femoral stem breakage. This contraindication is based on standardized mechanical tests which may have not taken into account the changes in patient weight that may occur after the intervention. To date, investigators have not been aware of any Meije Duo ™ size 1/2 brakeage in our patients implanted with this type of prosthesis regardless of their weights before 2014. However, it is possible that some of them have had a prostheses failure and consulted another hospital. In the absence of a clinical study on this problem, investigators decided to set up a health care assessment study collecting retrospective and prospective information from our patients.
Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of electromyographic (EMG) biofeedback training applied in addition to early passive motion protocol on electrical muscle activity (EMA) and functional status in zone I-III flexor tendon injuries. Materials and Methods: Cases who underwent surgery for flexor tendon injuries in zone I-III were included in this prospective randomized controlled trial. Cases were randomly divided into two groups of 11 cases each by block randomization. In the first group, EMG biofeedback training was applied in addition to the early passive motion method (modified Duran protocol), while the second group was followed only by early passive motion method. The treatment program was performed by the same physiotherapist three times a week, for 12 weeks. At the postoperative 5th, 12th and 24th weeks, joint range of motion (ROM) and EMA were evaluated, and the Michigan Hand Outcome Questionnaire (MHQ) was administered to the patients. The grip strength at 12th and 24th weeks were also assessed. The Mann-Whitney U Test was used to compare the two groups.
Our main hypothesis is to consider that the detection of biomarkers on admission combined with the length of the cervix would improve the prediction of the latency period in case of preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM). The primary purpose of the protocol is to assess the performance of these tests to predict a latency period <48 hours in case of pPROM.
A suture is a biomedical device that is made of natural or synthetic materials. Sutures are used to close tissue surfaces until wounds heal and regain their ability to withstand normal stresses. Although different suture materials are available for various dental procedures, clinicians commonly neglect to select sutures based on their mechanical properties and capabilities. Instead, clinicians rely on their clinical experience to determine which suture material will suffice for wound closure and healing. To our knowledge, there have been no published studies detailing the results of mechanical testing on sutures after clinical application. The aim of this study is to clinically, histologically, and mechanically assess the four common sutures used in periodontal and dental surgery, with the hopes of providing clinicians with a guide that will allow them to choose sutures based on the clinical, histological, mechanical properties that best fit the stress and strain applied to the wound.
Ambulation in pregnancy has been proposed to decrease stress and anxiety, increasing preterm birth. Whether ambulation is causally related to latency is unknown. The FitBit will be used for tracking the number of steps taken daily by each participant, and for encouraging the intervention group to walk. The FitBit is the most widely used physical activity tracker in medical research, and its use has been validated for research use in pregnant women. The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether ambulation in patients with preterm premature rupture of the membranes (PPROM) prolongs latency.
The investigators designed a prospective randomized trial to evaluate whether an app based active muscle training program (GenuSport) can improve the postoperative strength by starting rehabilitation immediately after primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery as already shown for patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. To the investigators knowledge this is the first study analyzing immediate postoperative serious gaming based training with the GenuSport device based on strength improvement.
The preterm prelabour rupture of membranes is defined as the spontaneous rupture of the fetal membranes before 37 completed weeks. Preterm prelabour rupture of membranes complicates up to 3% of pregnancies and is associated with 30-40% of preterm births. preterm prelabour rupture of membranes can result in significant neonatal morbidity and mortality, primarily from prematurity, sepsis, cord prolapse, and pulmonary hypoplasia. In addition, there are risks associated with chorioamnionitis and placental abruption The diagnosis of spontaneous rupture of the membranes is made by maternal history followed by a sterile speculum examination. If on speculum examination, no amniotic fluid is observed, clinicians should consider performing an insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 or placental alpha microglobulin-1 test of vaginal fluid to guide further management. One of the risks associated with preterm prelabour rupture of membranes is ascending infection leading to chorioamnionitis, and subsequent fetal and neonatal infection.
This study evaluates the use of a brace in acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in children and adolescents. Half of the participants will receive a so called rebound ACL brace together with a standardized rehab program supervised by a physiotherapist, while the other half will receive only the standardized rehab program supervised by a physiotherapist
The aim of the study is the evaluation of both clinical and radiological results in patients undergone to cruciate ligament reconstruction with concomitant cartilaginous lesion treated with or without nanofractures.
In this longitudinal prospective cohort study including young people with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, the investigators will evaluate if poor sensorimotor function at baseline can predict 1) graft rupture 2) the risk of contra-lateral ACL injury and 3) failure to return to sport/previous activity level within 3 years following ACL reconstruction.
