NCT ID: NCT06180434 Not yet recruiting - Glioma Clinical Trials

Short Term Outcomes After PRoton And photoN radiOtherapy for IDH Mutated Grade 2 and 3 Gliomas

SOPRANO
Start date: February 1, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Rationale: Proton beam therapy has recently become available for the treatment of patients with WHO grade 2 and 3 IDH mutated (IDHmt) glioma in the Netherlands. The dose distributions associated with proton therapy have substantially reduced the volume of the normal brain irradiated with low and intermediate radiotherapy doses. Whether this impacts rates of progressive disease or safety issues and how this compares with a similar population treated with photon therapy is currently unknown. Objective: To investigate short term outcomes after proton and photon radiotherapy for grade 2 and 3 IDHmt glioma.

NCT ID: NCT05561634 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Basal Cell Carcinoma

Radiotherapy by Sonic Hedgehog Pathway Inhibitors in Basal Cell Carcinoma

RADIOSONIC
Start date: July 2023
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) are large BCCs or BCCs located in areas subject to functional and aesthetic risk following surgery or radiotherapy. In these particular situations, surgery and radiotherapy are sometimes not appropriate, and Sonic Hedgehog inhibitors (SHHi) (Vismodegib and Sonidegib) can be proposed. SHHi are effective treatments in laBCC but most CR patients discontinue treatment because of tolerability. Approximately 65% of the population experience a relapse after discontinuation. A few cases of patients treated concomitantly by radiotherapy and vismodegib have been reported in the literature, suggesting that combining vismodegib and concomitant radiotherapy results in an improved overall response compared to a single modality treatment. There is no study evaluating a "consolidation radiotherapy" after complete response to SHHi. We carry out a prospective multicenter study in order to evaluate consolidation radiotherapy in patients with laBCC after achieving complete response with SHHi, with the hypothesis of reducing recurrence after discontinuation of SHHi.

NCT ID: NCT05289375 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Microbial Colonization

Efficacy of the Vacucis Candida® Autovaccine

Start date: April 30, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Introduction: Oral candidiasis is an infectious disease caused by the growth of Candida colonies and their penetration into oral tissues when physical barriers and host defenses are weakened. It constitutes one of the most common pathologies within the field covered by Dentistry. Candida infections are found in at least 80% of AIDS patients and in a third of HIV infection cases. Systemic diseases such as diabetes and a wide pharmacological arsenal to which the general population is subjected, are other causes of the increase in the prevalence of this disease. In addition, the high prevalence of oral sequelae (hyposialia) in the population over 65 years of age, due to the specific characteristics of this age group, such as multiple pathologies and drug use, explains the presence of this disease in this segment. of the population One of the great difficulties for the study of this disease is the diversity of predisposing factors, which do nothing but throw greater confusion into the results of the different works. Objective: To evaluate the reduction/suppression of signs and symptoms of oral candidiasis in patients treated with head and neck RT, users of Vacucis or Placebo. Material and method: Patients will receive information regarding the trial and, if they meet the inclusion criteria and agree to participate in it, they will sign the informed consent. All patients will be informed following the usual care practice of the characteristics of their candidiasis infection as well as the possibilities and alternatives of treatment and their respective efficacy. A descriptive analysis of the sample in terms of prevalence will be carried out. Categorical variables will be described as frequency and percentage and continuous variables as mean and standard deviation or median and interquartile range depending on their adjustment to normality, which will be calculated with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. To study the effect of the vaccine on the evolution of candidiasis, the Chi-square test, Student's t test or the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test will be used. The association of prevalence with CFU in both groups will be analyzed using the ANOVA test. Those values of p < 0.05 will be considered significant.

NCT ID: NCT03755921 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Head and Neck Cancer

Brief and Intensive Therapy for Dysphagia in Patients With Head and Neck Cancer

dysphagia
Start date: December 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

According to data in the literature, patients with head and neck cancer, who undergo combined treatment of radio-chemotherapy, have, to a greater or lesser extent, swallowing changes. Most of the time, these patients undergo traditional speech-language interventions, performed weekly. This project proposes a brief and intensive therapy program for dysphagia, with daily interventions, showing that this therapeutic modality generates benefits in a shorter time interval when compared to traditional therapy. This short service period contributes to the reduction of hospital costs and reduces the total number of interventions, which is beneficial for both the patient and the service that performs the care. The present study was to verify the efficacy of a brief and intensive therapy program for dysphagia in patients with head and neck cancer submitted to radio-chemotherapy treatments, since they present, to a greater or lesser extent, changes of swallowing. This is a randomized clinical trial pilot project that will be developed in an oncology hospital. The population of this study is composed of patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer, over 18 years of age, with indication of combined radiotherapy , referred for speech therapy through the Multidisciplinary Oncology Outpatient Clinic of Santa Rita Hospital (AMOHR).

Impact of Cancer Treatment on the Pelvic Floor Function in Survivors of Cervical Cancer

Start date: January 2, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Introduction: Pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions (PFMD) represent an important public health problem that manifests itself through lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), anorectal and sexual dysfunction. PFMD is a common problem in cervical cancer survivors (CC) with a negative impact on quality of life (QoL). Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of oncological treatment on the function of pelvic floor muscles (PFM) of survivors of CC. Methods: Patients diagnosed with CC, of any stage, histology and degree, accompanied by the Oncology Gynecology Service of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo, will be studied in the period between 2004 and 2014. Four study groups will be formed: (1) Patients with CC with PFMD; (2) Patients with CC without PFMD; : (3) Patients without CC with PFMD; (2) Patients without CC without PFMD. Non-cancer patients will be recruited into the community. For the analysis of the prevalence of PFMD will be applied to the discomfort Questionnaire on pelvic floor (IDPE-20) for evaluation of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) complaints, anorectal symptoms and urinary incontinence, and the Sexual Questionnaire for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse (PISQ -12) for evaluation of sexual function. Both questionnaires have already been validated for the Portuguese language and are specific for women with PFMD. The pelvic floor impact questionnaire (PFIQ-7) will also be applied to assess the impact of PFMD on quality of life, daily living activities and emotional health. For the evaluation of general QOL, the EORTC questionnaire QLQ-C30 and its specific module for patients with CC, QLQ-CX24 will be used. The evaluation of PFM function will include vaginal palpation (Modified Oxford Scale) and perineometry (Peritron).

Oncologic Therapy Support Via Means of a Dedicated Mobile App

OPTIMISE-1
Start date: July 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The present single-center prospective exploratory study, conducted at Heidelberg University Hospital, assesses the feasibility of introducing a concept for additional patient care based on a mobile application for patients undergoing radiotherapy. Patients presenting themselves for the irradiation of thoracic or pelvic tumors will be surveyed regarding general performance, treatment-related Quality of Life (QoL) and symptoms and their need to personally consult a physician on a treatment-daily basis by means of a mobile application. The primary endpoint of feasibility will be reached when 80% of the patients have successfully answered 80% of their respective questions scheduled for each treatment day. Furthermore, treatment-related patient satisfaction and diagnosis-related QoL is assessed by PSQ-18 and EORTC questionnaires at the end of radiotherapy and at the first follow-up.
