Impact of a Nutritional Intervention Program for Weight Control During Pregnancy

This is a randomized clinical trial for evaluate the impact of a nutritional intervention in the weight control of pregnant women according to the nutritional status, and consequently, the reduction of pregnancy complications. The sample of this study will be composed by 318 pregnant women in the pre-natal care unit of the Health Center in Viamão city / Rio Grande do Sul, including women between the 10th and 25th weeks of gestation, aged up to 35 years old. The eligible pregnant women will be invited by the fieldworks to participated in the trial after be informed about the overall aims of the study. These women willing to participate will be randomly allocated to either the intervention or control group. The intervention group received specific guidelines about feeding practices appropriate to each nutritional status. Data on pregnant women will be collected through a questionnaire in both groups, and to assess the food intake, three 24-hour food recall will be applied in the interventional group and two recall in the control group, in initial and final gestational period. In all appointments pregnant women of the two groups will be weight and classified according to Body Mass Index of pre-gestational (BMI). The dietary advices will be elaborated by the author of the project and nutrition graduation students of Federal University of Health Science of Porto Alegre.

Severe Pregnancy Complications Are Associated With Elevated Factor VIII Plasma Activity

Congenital and acquired thrombophilia were identified as risk factors for thrombosis in systemic vessels.Thrombophilias have also been recently found to be associated with preeclampsia, intrauterine fetal growth restriction (IUGR), placental abruption, intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) and repeated pregnancy loss.These severe pregnancy complications are thought to result from thrombotic events occurring in the uteroplacental circulation. Accumulating data have established an association between elevated plasma activity of factor VIII and thrombosis although the mechanism is still not defined and elevated factor VIII activity is now regarded as being equivalent to thrombophilia. We intend to investigatthe association between factor VIII levels and severe pregnancy complications which are considered to result from placental vascular pathology, i.e., preeclampsia, IUGR, placental abruption and IUFD. We hypothezise that the prevalence of elevated factor 8 will be higher among women with pregnancy complications compared to controls.

Interest of Circulating Endothelial Biomarkers in Vascular Pregnancy Complications

This is a prospective multicentric study including four clinical units of Gynecology and Obstetrics (3 public health hospitals and one private team), one research team in Hematology and one Center of Clinical investigation (CIC). The objective is to identify, beside the pregnancy, in a population of patients with a preeclampsia (PE), with fetus presenting with growth restriction (IUGR) and a fetal demise (FD) a modification of circulating endothelial biomarkers compared with normal pregnancy. We want to understand better the physiopathology of preeclampsia and propose to patients with an endothelial dysfunction a early prevention of preeclampsia. Patients will be tested 3 times : At the pregnancy events; then 8 weeks and 12 months after the birth. Four groups will be constituted among patients: PE, IUGR, FD and normal pregnancy. Normal pregnancy will be tested as controls. The next pregnancy presenting in the unit to medical pregnancy follow up will be invited to participate. The main judgment criteria will be the levels of endothelial microparticles 8 weeks after the event. The study will last 3 years. The number of patient to include is 280.

The main aims of this trial is to study the effects of exercise during pregnancy in the prevention and treatment of disease and complications which may arise during pregnancy: - Does regular exercise during pregnancy aid in preventing gestational diabetes? - Does regular exercise during pregnancy prevent low back and/or pelvic girdle pain? - Does regular exercise during pregnancy prevent urine and/or fecal incontinence? - Does regular exercise during pregnancy have an effect on labour and delivery? - Does regular exercise during pregnancy prevent maternal excessive weight gain and fetal macrosomatia?

UCB Antiepileptic Drugs (AED) Pregnancy Registry (Formerly the Keppra® Pregnancy Registry)

This is a prospective, observational, exposure-registration and follow-up study of women and their offspring exposed to Keppra® (levetiracetam) and Keppra XR® at the time of conception (i.e., any time from the first day of the last menstrual period) and/or during pregnancy. The UCB AED Pregnancy Registry is designed to monitor pregnancies exposed to Keppra® and Keppra XR® in order to determine if there is a potential increase in the risk of major birth defects compared to rates from women in the general US population. The objectives of the UCB AED Pregnancy Registry are: - To prospectively collect data concerning 1) exposure to Keppra® and Keppra XR® during pregnancy, 2) potential confounding factors, 3) outcome of pregnancy, and 4) long-term pediatric outcome - To review reported cases of possible birth defects - To estimate the risk of birth defects occurring in live-born offspring of women exposed to Keppra® and Keppra XR® during pregnancy This study is being conducted in the United States (US). Betaseron Pregnancy Registry

This is a prospective, observational, registration and follow-up study of women exposed to Betaseron® at the time of conception (i.e., any time from the first day of the last menstrual period) and/or during pregnancy. The Betaseron® Pregnancy Registry is designed to determine whether there is an increased risk or a pattern of birth defects in the offspring of women exposed to Betaseron® at conception and during pregnancy compared to rates from women in the general US population. Secondarily, the Registry will examine rates of spontaneous abortions and other negative pregnancy outcomes in this population. This study will be conducted in the United States (US). The Betaseron® Pregnancy Registry is sponsored by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and is managed by the Post Approval & Strategic Services group at INC Research, LLC.
