SibACCESS: Developing a Telehealth Intervention to Address Unmet Psychosocial Needs of Siblings of Children With Cancer

R03 CA259898
Start date: February 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to address barriers to psychosocial care for siblings of children with cancer by piloting a group-based telehealth program for adolescent siblings of youth with cancer. The pilot trial will be preceded by a treatment development stage during which study staff will interview English- and Spanish-speaking families and psychosocial providers to assess preferences for program content, format, timing, and cultural feasibility and acceptability, while considering ideas to minimize participation barriers. Information from interviews will inform any revisions to the proposed pilot program. Then, the new SibACCESS program will be tested with a small group of families located in Massachusetts, Delaware, or Rhode Island using video-teleconferencing technology. Families will complete exit interviews to assess program acceptability and perceived benefits.

NCT ID: NCT04887116 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Piloting Virtual Reality Environments to Treat PTSD in Healthcare Workers and Patients Consequent to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Start date: October 5, 2023
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Healthcare workers and COVID-19 patients may experience psychological distress consequent to the pandemic, and are at particularly elevated risk for experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), based on evidence from previous infectious disease outbreaks. The best-validated treatment for PTSD is exposure therapy. Exposure therapy help patients suffering from PTSD to revisit and overcome their traumatic experiences. Including virtual reality in exposure therapy has a long history in treating PTSD; and has been used to treat military veterans and first-responders following 9/11. The investigators are developing and testing a virtual reality platform to be used in treating healthcare workers and COVID-19 patients who develop PTSD resulting from their experiences in the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will complete ten ninety minute sessions, twice a week for five weeks aimed at mitigating their symptoms of PTSD. The pilot study will aim to demonstrate the feasibility and the tolerability of the virtual reality intervention in these populations.

NCT ID: NCT04877093 Recruiting - Sleep Clinical Trials

Repurposing Low-Dose Clonidine for PTSD in Veterans

Start date: June 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Hypothesis: Veterans with PTSD prescribed clonidine will demonstrate improvements in PTSD symptoms, including daytime, nighttime, and sleep-related behaviors.

NCT ID: NCT04871100 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Integrated CBT to Improve Functioning in Veterans With Anxiety and Substance Use

Start date: March 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Individual with anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder often use alcohol in ways that could cause them harm. Treating both mental health concerns and alcohol use at the same time can help reduce difficulties engaging in multiple treatments. The investigators are evaluating how a cognitive behavioral therapy program that helps Veterans with anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, and alcohol use at the same time can help improve the participants lives.

Testing the Efficacy of a Mindfulness- and Acceptance-Based Smartphone App for PTSD: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a mindfulness- and acceptance-based smartphone app (MABSA) intervention for college student veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. The study will use a randomized controlled trial design of two groups: intervention group of about 30 participants with PTSD and wait-list control group of about 30 participants. The duration of the MABSA intervention is 6 weeks. The following are the outcomes to be measured: resilience, PTSD, mindfulness, experiential avoidance, and rumination.

NCT ID: NCT04852770 Recruiting - Covid19 Clinical Trials

Efficacy of TBCT, MBHP and PPT for PTSD During the Covid-19 Pandemics

Start date: April 23, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The psychotherapies to be assessed in the present study, delivered on-line, are: trial-based cognitive therapy (TBCT), mindfulness-based health promotion (MBHP), and positive psychotherapy (PPT). Objectives: 1) to assess the efficacy of TBCT compared to MBHP and PPT in reducing the symptoms of PTSD during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NCT ID: NCT04846790 Enrolling by invitation - Depression Clinical Trials

The Effect of a Combined Nature-based and Virtual Mindfulness Intervention on Perceived Stress in Healthcare Workers

Start date: July 16, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Rationale: Healthcare workers that care for patients with COVID-19 are at increased risk for stress-related symptoms. When these symptoms are chronic, they can result in burnout and other mental health conditions that can exacerbate the current national health crisis. Social distancing can limit the accessibility of mental health services. Feasible and effective interventions are needed to reduce stress-related symptoms and promote resilience in this population, while adhering to federal and local guidelines to mitigate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Objectives: To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of a combined nature-based and virtual mindfulness intervention on stress-related symptoms and psychological resilience in healthcare workers that care for patients with COVID-19. Both components are reported to reduce levels of perceived stress and increase psychological resilience; however, the potential additive effect of their combined delivery is unknown. Methods: Ninety healthcare workers will be randomized into one of three groups: Nature+Mindfulness (n=30), Nature only (n=30), and Control (n=30). All participants will undergo assessments at baseline (week 0), post nature intervention (~week 1), and post mindfulness intervention (~week 3). The two intervention groups will have one final assessment at 2-month follow-up (~week 11). Perceived stress is the primary endpoint and will be assessed with the Perceived Stress Scale. Secondary endpoints include sleep quality, burnout, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, self-efficacy, and psycho-social-spiritual healing. Anticipated Results: We anticipate that participants in the Nature+Mindfulness group will have greater reductions in stress-related symptoms and greater increases in psychological resilience compared with the Nature only and Control groups.

PFI Hazardous Drinkers With Subclinical PTSD

Start date: July 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of the present study is to assist on a randomized controlled trial (RCT), aimed at developing and testing the efficacy of a novel computer based PFI among hazardous drinkers with at least subclinical posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (i.e., endorsing at least two symptoms in each PTSD symptom cluster) and elevated anxiety sensitivity (AS). The objective of this trial is to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of this novel PFI on (1) primary outcomes including drinking motivational factors and alcohol-related behaviors and (2) secondary outcomes including changes in AS and PTSD, and (3) exploring theoretically relevant mediators/moderators. Follow-up assessments will occur at post-test, one-week, and one-month post-intervention. Hazardous drinkers with at least subclinical PTSD and elevated AS (N=100) recruited from the community will be randomly assigned to receive Alcohol-PTSD-PFI (AP-PFI) or an active comparison condition (C-PFI).
