Filter by:The purpose of this study is to create a research repository, composed of data collected in the course of digital care programs for pelvic health conditions by SWORD Health/Bloom to individuals undergoing those programs. This will allow the investigators to observe the acceptance, engagement and outcomes of programs using this approach in the treatment of multiple pelvic health disorders.
The postpartum period is excessively weak and have hypotonic abdominal muscles, making the ligaments and connective tissue softer and more elastic. The importance of exercise in the postpartum period is very important in this regard. This study will be a Randomized control trial used to compare the effects of diaphragmatic breathing with and without abdominal muscles strength training program on pelvic floor strength and endurance and quality of life in postnatal women. Subjects meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be divided into two groups using lottery method. Assessment will be done using PERFECT scheme questionnaire and SF- 36 quality of life questionnaire. Subjects in one group will receive diaphragmatic breathing exercises along with pelvic muscle strength training and subjects in other group will receive only diaphragmatic breathing exercises. Each subject will receive 12 treatment sessions for 4 weeks. Results will be analyzed for any change by using SPSS25.
The aim of this study is to examine the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and the relationship between functional level, posture, muscle strength, pelvic floor muscle control, participation in activities of daily living, and quality of life that may be associated with these symptoms. Forty-five children with DMD between the ages of 5-18 (Age: 9.00±3.32 years, Weight: 31,10±12,59 kg, Height: 125,87±18,46 cm) and their families were included in the study. LUTS was assessed with Dysfunctional Voiding And Incontinence Scoring System, functional level with Brooke Upper Extremity Functional Classification and Vignos Scale, posture with the New York Posture Assessment Questionnaire, Baseline Bubble Inclinometer (10602, Fabrication Enterprises Inc. New York, USA) and Baseline Digital Inclinometer (12-1057, Fabrication Enterprises Inc, New York, USA), participation in activities of daily living was assessed with the Barthel Index and quality of life was assessed with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 3.0 Neuromuscular Module. Also, using the Hoggan microFET2 (Hoggan Scientific, LLC, Salt Lake City UT, USA) device, hip flexors, quadriceps femoris muscles, shoulder flexors, elbow extensors, elbow flexors, trunk extensors and flexors were evaluated in terms of muscle strength. Evaluations were made once, and the associated factors were compared in the group with and without LUTS, and the relationship between the factors and the severity of LUTS was examined.
In this study, it is assumed that grip strength is associated with pelvic floor muscle strength. And the outcome of pelvic floor function can be predicted by referring to the status of pelvic floor muscle strength through the value of grip strength, which is labor-saving, time-saving and more convenient for evaluating pelvic floor muscle function. Moderate physical activity and increase the overall strength can activate the potential mechanism of pelvic floor muscle contraction at the same time may be a "core muscles" overall effect, that core muscles mainly includes transverse abdominal muscle, pelvic floor muscles and the muscles around the back, these muscles in the body movement to spontaneous collaboration contract pelvic floor muscles, enhancing pelvic floor muscle function, thus reducing the incidence of pelvic floor dysfunction.
The purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between women's pelvic floor function with their overall state of bodily functions, including body composition, physical activity levels, trunk muscle endurance, body posture, vaginal and gut microbes. The main intervention of this study is a set of global training which Includes the strength, endurance, flexibility, stability and flexibility training on the diaphragm, abdominal, lower back, as well as pelvic floor muscles, on the basis Kegel training. The primary destination of global training is to shorten the cycle of postpartum pelvic floor functional recovery, improve the effect of maternal training, and convenient in clinical promotion.
Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as any involuntary loss of urine. It affects a significant percentage of the population, mainly female, with a prevalence of 21.4% in Portuguese women, having a negative impact on quality of life and sexual function. About half presents with stress UI (SUI), followed by mixed UI (MUI), with isolated urgency UI being less common. Pelvic floor rehabilitiation is a first line treatment for SUI and MUI, however, it is not yet defined which is the best treatment program or the ideal strategies to improve adherence to it. Telerehabilitation assumed a leading role in the covid pandemic phase, although there are few studies on pelvic floor rehabilitation for UI, none in Portugal to date. The authors aim to evaluate the effectiveness of a hybrid program of pelvic floor rehabilitation in female patients with SUI and MUI with a predominance of SUI, including consultation and face-to-face sessions complemented with telerehabilitation.
The investigators have developed an investigation comparing electroacupuncture with pelvic floor exercises in female urinary incontinence (UI). It is a randomized clinical trial with 71 women with UI and two arms: 37 women received electroacupuncture with pelvic floor exercises and another arm with 34 women who only received pelvic floor exercises. The investigators evaluated the effectiveness using the International consultation on incontinence questionaire-urinary incontinence short form (ICQ-UI SF) Spanish version. The investigators also evaluated the safety of electroacupuncture in our sample.
After having a baby, there are some expected changes in pelvic floor function. However, tearing of the pelvic floor, having a large baby and needing a vacuum or forceps to deliver the baby put women at risk for having pelvic floor disorders. Our study aims to see if, in women who had a high risk for pelvic floor disorders, a pelvic floor education workshop four weeks after delivery can improve pelvic floor disorders compared to those that did not have a workshop.
This physiotherapist-guided group training programme should be performed in both the supine and the sitting positions; it is investigated, which is better and more cost-effective in patient motivation.
Urinary incontinence (UI) symptoms are highly prevalent among women, and menopause is one of the risk factors for UI. During the menopausal transition, not only the hormonal secretion is changed but also the level of physical activity is affected. The time spent on physical activity is reduced in postmenopausal women. Studies have shown that physical activity acts in a bidirectional manner, exerting either a preventive or an aggravating effect on urinary incontinence. Individuals with sedentary lifestyle and insufficient physical activity (< 150 min/week) are at risk of developing UI, and regular physical activity exerts a protective effect in preventing UI, but the optimal type, duration, and intensity of exercise for the female older adult population remain unknown. In addition, objective measurements of pelvic floor muscle function is needed as the use of self-reported measures may cause response bias. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of different intensity of exercise on pelvic floor muscle function and HRQoL in postmenopausal women with UI. The investigators hypothesize that (a) both high- and low-intensity physical activities can improve pelvic floor muscle strength and HRQoL in postmenopausal women with UI, and (b) the improvement in high-intensity group is higher than that in low-intensity group. A randomized trial will be conducted to compare the effect of different exercise intensity on pelvic floor muscle function in postmenopausal women with urinary incontinence (n=90).
