Patient Satisfaction During Outpatient Versus Inpatient Foley Catheter Induction of Labor

Start date: November 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Labor induction is one of the most common obstetric procedures performed in the U.S. In 2012, the last year for which data is available, 23.7% of all deliveries were the result of inductions. Labor induction first requires cervical ripening, which can be accomplished by several different methods. Vaginal or oral prostaglandins, extra amniotic saline infusion, osmotic dilators and transcervical Foley catheters are all widely used instruments for pre-induction cervical ripening. The ideal cervical ripening tool is safe for both mother and fetus, incurs low cost, does not require extensive monitoring, and causes minimal maternal discomfort. The Foley catheter has been found to be both safe and effective, but little is known about patient satisfaction with the device in an in-patient and out-patient setting. The proposed study will investigate patient satisfaction in a randomized controlled trial of in-patient versus out-patient use of Foley catheters.

Study Buddy (an ECA Oncology Trial Advisor) for Cancer Trials

Start date: September 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The Study Buddy ECA acts as an advisor to patients on chemotherapy regimens, promoting protocol adherence and retention, providing anticipatory guidance and answering questions, serving as a conduit to capture information about complaints or adverse events, providing a venue for communicating about updates. The Study Buddy will use the web-based ECA infrastructure developed for use on another project. We will use web browsers on tablets provided to study participants to access the Study Buddy, providing anywhere, anytime access to its functions. Usability metrics will include session time, satisfaction, and error rates.

Family-Centered Cesarean Delivery

FCC
Start date: June 1, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if patient birthing experiences differ between the family-centered and traditional cesarean methods. We hypothesize that the family-centered cesarean method will lead to more unique and personalized cesarean birthing experiences without increasing the risks of adverse neonatal and maternal outcomes from those documented with the traditional cesarean.

NCT ID: NCT02621710 Completed - Clinical trials for Patient Satisfaction

Goal Achievement and Patient Satisfaction in Benign Hysterectomy

Start date: December 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This study evaluates patient goal achievement and satisfaction in benign hysterectomy. Patient's will state their goals prior to undergoing benign hysterectomy, and will receive a follow-up questionnaire 3 months post-operatively evaluating their perception of goal achievement and overall satisfaction. Goal achievement and satisfaction will be evaluated for association with surgical indication, surgical approach (minimally invasive vs abdominal surgery), and demographic information.

NCT ID: NCT02472327 Completed - Cesarean Section Clinical Trials

Decreasing Patient Dissatisfaction With Unplanned Cesarean Sections

Start date: June 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patient satisfaction after an unplanned cesarean section was studied and in the previous study it was noted that there were common themes that lead to patient dissatisfaction. The four common themes were: lack of trust regarding the indications for surgery, communication issues, loss of control, and fear during the situation. The purpose of this second phase of this study is to try and improve patient dissatisfaction by offering additional emotional support prior to the c/s with the hope of decreasing the trust issues toward physicians, decreasing the communication barriers, and decreasing the fear and loss of control. The additional emotional support that will be received prior to the cesarean section will be scripted based upon the findings of the investigators' prior study - the patient will be asked four questions and each question addresses the four themes that were noted in the previous study.
