NCT ID: NCT05677633 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Parkinson's Disease and Parkinsonism

Biomarker Validation Following Sargramostim Treatment in Parkinson's Disease

Start date: January 19, 2023
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Investigators will evaluate the safety of a 48 week regimen of Leukine administered as a weight-based dose at 3 ug/kg/ day for 5 days followed by a 2-day holiday. This 48 week long study will extend the prior biomarker evaluations observed in a previous study. Clinical signs and symptoms will be measured by personal well-being, physical, and neurological examinations (UPDRS Parts I, II, III, and IV assessments) and blood tests (CBC with differential, total T cell count, and a comprehensive metabolic sera panel). Leukapheresis will be performed to collect large numbers of immune cells for biomarker testing and immune phenotyping. Additionally, the investigators will determine whether immune deficits of PD are consistent during baseline data collection, and the potential Leukine-induced motor control and mobility improvements will be determined by UPDRS part I, II, III, and IV scores off treatment and on treatment.

NCT ID: NCT05551377 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Head-up Tilt Sleeping to Alleviate Orthostatic Hypotension, Supine Hypertension and Nocturia in Parkinson's Disease

Start date: January 18, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Autonomic dysfunction is common and often underrecognized in Parkinson's disease (PD). Orthostatic hypotension (OH) affects up to a third of PD patients and often coincides with supine hypertension. This co-occurrence complicates pharmacological treatment as treatment of one can negatively affect the other. Head-up tilt sleeping (HUTS) could improve both. This phase II randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of this understudied intervention, leading to optimal implementation strategies.

NCT ID: NCT05308485 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Events Exposure as a Trigger of the Clinical Manifestations of Parkinson's Disease

Start date: January 6, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Stress has been implicated as a trigger of many diseases, throughout different mechanisms. Potentially traumatic/stressful events exposure might be a factor that triggers subclinical disabilities related to PD becoming evident to the patient. In this observational study, the investigators will evaluate with a validated events exposure questionnaire the occurrence and severity of potentially traumatic or stressful events in Parkinson's disease patients and in patients with recent-onset parkinsonism.

NCT ID: NCT05273957 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

A Model of Hospital-Territory Management Coordinated by a Case Manager to Improve the Care of Patients With Parkinsonism.

PROUD
Start date: March 29, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The present multicenter randomized study investigates whether the management of patients with parkinsonism by a nurse specialist (case-manager) can significantly improve patients' quality of life over 12 months, compared to control patients managed with the standard-of-care process. Participants will be evaluated with clinical scales testing quality of life, motor and non-motor symptoms, and the number of unscheduled hospital access throughout the course of the study.

NCT ID: NCT05127057 Active, not recruiting - Parkinsonism Clinical Trials

Proactive and Integrated Management and Empowerment in Parkinson's Disease (PRIME-UK): A New Model of Care (PRIME-RCT)

PRIME-RCT
Start date: October 28, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

People living with Parkinson's disease experience progressive motor and non-motor symptoms, which negatively impact on health-related quality of life. Symptoms emerge and evolve as the disease progresses. Current care models are often inadequate to meet their needs. This study aims to evaluate whether a complex and innovative model of integrated care will increase an individual's ability to achieve their personal goals, have a positive impact on health and symptom burden, and be more cost-effective when compared with usual care.

NCT ID: NCT04057794 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Parkinson's Disease and Parkinsonism

PDGeneration: Mapping the Future of Parkinson's Disease

PDGENE
Start date: August 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To assess the feasibility, impact, and participant satisfaction of offering Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified genetic testing as part of clinical care for People with Parkinson's disease (PWP).

NCT ID: NCT03130595 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

West Sweden Parkinson Objective Measurement Registry Study

WestPORTS
Start date: April 26, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

WestPORTS will recruit a randomly selected population consisting of 25% of all individuals with Parkinson's disease (ICD G209) that have visited any of the seven major outpatient neurology or geriatrics clinics in West Sweden (population 1.7M) during a predefined 12 month period between Sept 2016 and April 2018. Baseline clinical and demographic data will be collected along with a 6 x 24h accelerometry recording using the Parkinson Kinetigraph (Global Kinetics). Repeated data collections will be made with regular intervals of up to 2 years as long as subjects are alive and willing.

NCT ID: NCT02650843 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Non-motor Symptoms and Brain Dopamine Transporter Binding

NMDAT
Start date: January 2015
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This project aims to clarify the role non-motor symptoms in the development of Parkinson's disease (PD) and to improve diagnostics at very early stages of PD. The project involves multidimensional measures of disease biomarkers together with brain dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging with [123I]FP-CIT single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).

NCT ID: NCT02598973 Active, not recruiting - Parkinson's Disease Clinical Trials

Effect of Exercise in Parkinsonism

Start date: February 1, 2016
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder affecting approximately 80,000 Veterans, representing a priority area for VA research. Current medicines for PD only improve symptoms, treatments that slow disease progression are needed, and earlier diagnosis of PD may be the key to their development. PD symptoms can be mimicked by medicines (most commonly antipsychotic drugs that block dopamine), and some of these patients actually have underlying "prodromal" PD that was "unmasked" years before it would have caused symptoms. This problem is increasing as these medicines are now used for common conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. The investigators will identify prodromal PD in patients with drug-induced symptoms using brain scans. These patients will be enrolled in a randomized clinical trial of aerobic exercise which slows progression in animal models of PD and has other health benefits. The investigators will measure the effect of exercise on symptoms, disease progression (using brain scans) and markers of PD risk (using blood tests). These studies will improve early PD diagnosis and potentially identify a way to slow progression of PD.
