Filter by:The Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Top child and adolescent health problems study aims to identify the top health concerns that parents/guardians and paediatricians in a tertiary hospital have for young people in England. 400 parents or guardians attending GOSH outpatients and 200 Paediatricians working at GOSH will be asked to rank a list of 30 child health concerns and results compared. Analysis will be done by demographics as well.
Chronic pain is estimated to affect 20% to 35% of children and adolescents around the world, and is associated with increased risk of anxiety and depression among children and adolescents, as well as coping challenges, anxiety, depression, and anger in their parents. For parents, learning to manage stress is critical, as parents play a significant role in a child's experience of pain. Parental behaviors such as over-involvement, solicitousness and rejection are associated with decreased functioning, including higher school absenteeism in children and teens. A number of interventions demonstrate that teaching skills to parents can have a direct and positive impact on the health of children and adolescents with chronic pain. The investigators propose to create and test the BodiMojo Parent Buddy which will provide parents with real-time, tailored and adaptive coping and stress management support and will provide a curriculum of skills for responding to a child in pain in order to promote child functioning. Thirty parents of children ages 8-18 who have been diagnosed with a non-cancer chronic pain condition will participate in this user-testing study. Parents will complete a brief set of questionnaires before and after the intervention, and will be instructed to open and use the app each day for 30 days. Participants will complete audio mindfulness exercises, watch brief video clips, and read psychoeducational information about pain, coping, and communication skills. Post-intervention questionnaires will also include an acceptance test to assess participants' opinions about the helpfulness and usability of the app. Parent participation is expected to take around 3.5 hours total over the 30 day study period.
This study is a two-arm randomized controlled trial, implemented to assess the effectiveness of a community-based educational program with and without a text messaging reminder system, in increasing the rate of HPV vaccination completion among children of Mexican Americans. The investigator's have extended the duration that participants are followed in assessing their child's uptake of the HPV vaccine to coincide with the COVID-19 related clinic closures and/or allow flexibility for participants who decide to delay their child's vaccination for fear of exposure to the COVID-19 infection. A survey will also assess the participants concerns regarding the impact COVID-19 has had in their daily life, such as financial insecurity, food access, housing insecurity and among other most common concerns during this unprecedented time. Additional navigation, referrals and interviewer notes will also be captured. Participants may be called by site or MSK staff to complete study surveys and will be informed verbally or by a mailed letter.
The purpose of this mixed-methods study is to explore the lived experience of parents of young adults ages 18 to 25 years with type 1 diabetes who are transitioning to independence, and to test the preliminary efficacy of a mobile education program to reduce parental distress.

This is a Stage III community-based randomized clinical efficacy trial testing Mothering from the Inside Out (MIO), the first evidence-based parenting intervention designed to be delivered by addiction counselors in addiction treatment settings where parents of young children are enrolled in treatment.
Data was collected from Parents of children who were receiving occupational therapy services. Three assessment tools were used: 1. Life Participation for Parents, 2. Infant Toddler Sensory Profile, and 3) Child Behavior Checklist. Data was used to pursue 2 investigations. 1. Is the Life Participation for Parents responsive to change after intervention? 2. Are there correlations between child behavior, child sensory processing, and parental participation in their own lives while raising a child with special needs.
The primary objective of this investigation is to test the efficacy of two sport participation formats (individual sport, team sport) on key psychosocial outcomes compared to a non-sport condition among parents of young children who were not participating in sport at baseline of the study. Research of this type is important because parents represent a group dealing with numerous challenges and this is a period of time shown to have the greatest decline in physical activity. Furthermore, parents could reap great benefits in psychological health through the increase in physical activity and sport participation. It is hypothesized that participation will be predicted by sports commitment as per the tenets of the Sport Commitment Model, and commitment will be predicted primarily by enjoyment (+), social constraints from family obligations/involvement alternatives (-), followed by social involvement opportunities/personal investments (+).
The Northwestern University Two-Generation Child and Family Outcomes Study (NU2Gen) of the Community Action Project of Tulsa County's (CAP Tulsa's) CareerAdvance® program examines the effects of CareerAdvance® on parent and child human capital outcomes (e.g., child academic achievement, parent educational advancement and certification, and psychological and family functioning), and (2) explore mechanisms that might give rise to program effects (e.g., home language environment; coping, balance, and stress; and parent and academic and career identity).
The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of a sun protection education program for children of all ethnic and racial backgrounds. Practicing sun protection in childhood can reduce the likelihood of developing skin cancer as an adult. The educational program consists of a read-along book in English and Spanish for the child to read with the parent or caregiver, text message reminders to practice sun protection, and a sun protective swim shirt for the child.
