The Effectiveness of an Online Support Group in Enhancing Recovery Identity and Health-Related Quality of Life

Start date: June 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Background Ovarian cancer poses challenges for middle-aged and older patients, impacting physical and self-conceptual aspects. A research gap exists on the impact of online support groups (SPs) on identity synthesis and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) for these patients. Objective To assess the feasibility and efficacy of an online SG in influencing recovery identity and HRQOL in middle-aged and older ovarian cancer patients (MDOCP). Method A four-week randomized controlled trial, followed by a three-month evaluation, was conducted, employing a mobile online SG and an offline SG both grounded in The Social Identity Model of Identity Change. Recovery identity, HRQOL, and participant engagement were utilized to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of interventions.

Combined Program of Supervised Physical Exercise and Nutritional Counseling in Ovarian Cancer Patients on Frontline Maintenance Treatment With PARP Inhibitors

Start date: September 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients will be recruited in the 4 participating sites and will sign the informed consent If they agree to participate. It is planned to include 32 patients with ovarian cancer on maintenance PARPi after response to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy in the study. Patients included in the study will follow an online physical exercise program supervised by a physical exercise specialist in which they will perform up to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or up to 150 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise and 2 strength sessions per week for 12 weeks (following World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for cancer survivors).

Transforming Ovarian Cancer Diagnostic Pathways

SONATA
Start date: January 23, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The goal of this observational cohort study is to compare the diagnostic accuracy and cost effectiveness of Risk of Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA) compared with CA125 in the diagnosis of ovarian cancer in patients attending their general practitioner (GP) with symptoms that sometimes might indicate ovarian cancer. The main questions it aims to answer are: • what is the accuracy of the ROMA algorithm which uses the blood tests CA125 and Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) compared to CA125 in diagnosing ovarian cancer, particularly early-stage ovarian cancer, in women tested for suspected ovarian cancer from primary care? • What is the cost-effectiveness of ROMA versus CA125 testing in primary care to diagnose ovarian cancer? When a participant's GP orders a CA125 blood test, the blood will also be tested for HE4 and the ROMA algorithm calculated. The diagnostic accuracy of ROMA and CA125 will be compared to see if ROMA would be a better diagnostic test for ovarian cancer when used in the primary care setting.

The Registry of Genetic Alterations of Taiwan Ovarian Cancer

Start date: November 15, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Despite recent progress in chemotherapy and targeted therapy for ovarian cancer, the 5-year survival rate remains around 40% because of rapid development of treatment resistance and recurrence. The sensitivity to platinum agents or BRCA genes mutation has been the prerequisite for improved survival using PARP inhibitors, though only 15-20% ovarian cancer patients harbor BRCA mutations through germline or somatic variants. Bevacizumab can only delayed disease recurrence but failed to improve overall survival. Several approved cancer therapeutics with established safety and toxicity profiles should be assessed in the immediate future based on biomarkers of platinum resistant, BRCA wild type recurrent ovarian cancer. Furthermore, the proportion high grade serous and clear cell adenocarcinoma of ovary cancer in Taiwan increased substantially in recent 10 years. Genetic factors (such as homologous recombination deficiency, mismatch repair genes mutation), environmental factors (such as oral contraceptives, nulliparity/low parity) as well as comorbidity including endometriosis may be associated with the changing pattern and clinical outcomes of ovarian cancer in Taiwan. Next-generation sequencing technology has enabled cancer genome sequencing in screening and searching for new cancer genes in an efficient manner. This massive sequencing technique not only help to identify new altered genes for novel biomarker development, but also reveal gene alterations sensitive or resistant to specific therapies. The specific aims of this project are (1) to systemically explore genomic profiling of Taiwanese primary or platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer focusing on high grade serous and clear cell adenocarcinoma; (2) to collect clinical data regarding comorbidity, survival time and responses to major types of anticancer therapy; and (3) to establish a comprehensive ovarian cancer cohort for additional translational studies. The long-term goals of this study are to help implement personalized therapy, to develop novel therapy, and to improve outcomes of patients with ovarian cancer.

Upfront Maintenance Olaparib in Advanced Ovarian Cancer BRCAwt Patients With Known Homologous Recombination Deficiency

Start date: January 17, 2024
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a prospective non-randomized efficacy trial of olaparib maintenance therapy after frontline treatment with platinum-based therapy in advanced ovarian cancer patients with BRCAwt, homologous recombination deficient (HRD) disease.

NCT ID: NCT06120309 Enrolling by invitation - Ovarian Cancer Clinical Trials

New Prognostic Index for Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Outcome in Patients With Advanced High-grade Serous Ovarian Cancer

Start date: November 1, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

A validated prognostic index for the outcome of advanced high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is still lacking. To address this need, we developed an ovarian neoadjuvant chemotherapy prognostic index (ONCPI) to improve predictive accuracy. We analyzed the clinicopathological characteristics of advanced HGSOC patients receiving platinum-based NACT. Blood inflammatory composite markers were calculated and binary-transformed using optimal cutoffs. Omental hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained slides were selected for the assessment of chemotherapy response score (CRS). Logistic regression analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression model were utilized to develop a prognostic index.

Shanghai Ovarian Cancer and Family Care Project

Start date: January 1, 2013
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynaecological malignancy, but its incidence in the general population is low. Due to the lack of effective prevention and successful screening approaches, most cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to poor prognosis. In order to address the research requirements pertaining to ovarian cancer, the Shanghai Ovarian Cancer and Family Care Project was established. This initiative offers hospital-based resources for investigating ovarian cancer and high-risk populations. The project comprises an on-going ovarian cancer cohort, a high-risk population cohort, and a healthy population cohort. By leveraging these comprehensive cohorts, the project provides a unique platform for in-depth studies on the detection, prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of ovarian cancer.

Systems Oncology Approach to Optimize Ovarian Cancer Treatment

ONCOSYS-OVA
Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

The overall aim is to identify effective therapeutic strategies to ovarian cancer (OC) using serial tumor, ascites and blood samples, and carry out state-of-the-art sequencing approaches, functional assays and associated bioinformatics to understand mechanisms behind chemoresistance in OC and identify new treatment options for OC patients. In this observational trial, we will systematically collect, analyze and interpret functional, molecular and clinical data from real-world ovarian cancer patients.
