NCT ID: NCT06387459 Not yet recruiting - Fall Clinical Trials

Feasibility of Fabric Orthosis for Knee Support in Elderly Gait Improvement

Start date: May 15, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This pilot clinical trial assesses the safety and feasibility of a novel fabric-type orthosis designed to mimic the knee extensor muscles and improve gait in elderly patients with mobility impairments due to conditions like sarcopenia, diabetes, or knee osteoarthritis. The study aims to test this orthosis in a real- world setting to see if it can enhance mobility and stability for elderly individuals, potentially reducing falls and improving quality of life. A total of 30 participants aged 65 and older will be recruited to use this orthosis across multiple sessions, where their gait will be analyzed under various conditions to measure the device's impact on walking speed, stability, and muscle activation.

NCT ID: NCT06363357 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Muscular Dystrophy, Duchenne

The Effect of a Muscle-mimicking, Fabric-type Shoulder Orthosis on Functional Movements of the Upper Limb in Patients With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Start date: April 20, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effect of a muscle-mimicking, fabric-type shoulder orthosis on functional movements of the upper limb in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The main questions it aims to answer are: - What is the impact of the muscle-mimicking, fabric-type shoulder orthosis on upper limb functional movements in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy? - Are there observable differences in upper limb function when the shoulder orthosis is worn versus when it is not? Participants will: - Receive education on how to wear and use the shoulder orthosis. - Undergo evaluations, including assessment of upper limb performance, shoulder muscle strength testing, active range of motion measurements, assessment of functional workspace, goal attainment scale evaluation, surface electromyography, physiological measurements such as blood pressure and heart rate, fatigue assessment, and assessment for any musculoskeletal or skin-related issues. Researchers will compare Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients before and while wearing and operating the shoulder orthosis to see if there are any significant effects on variables such as upper limb function, range of motion, functional workspace, goal attainment scale, and surface electromyography.

Boutonniere Deformity Effectiveness of Thermoplastic and Fabricated Orthoses

Start date: May 6, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this study is to present the author's thumb orthosis with a butonier deformity and its effect on hand function, strength, dexterity and pain levels in relation to patients wearing factory-made orthopedic supplies. It is planned to include about 60 people in the study (30 people each in the group with thermoplastic orthoses and 30 participants with factory-made orthoses) The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. How much improvement in dexterity will the patient wearing the orthosis get? 2. By how much will the grip strength of the whole hand and pincer grip strength improve with the orthosis? 3. How will wearing the orthosis affect the pain associated with the disease? Participants will 1. measurement of grip strength of the right and left hands with a dynamometer in an orthosis and without an orthosis, at the time of the test conducted and at the appointed times. 2. measurement of pincer grip strength with a dynamometer in an orthosis and without an orthosis, at the time of the test conducted and at the designated times. 4. completion of the DASH questionnaire 6. assessment of the NRS pain scale in relation to the period of 6 months before the start of the study 7. Likert scale - evaluation of satisfaction with the use of the orthosis 8. the Kapandji scale Researchers will compare patients with thermoplastic orthosis and patients with fabric orthosis to see which is more functional.

NCT ID: NCT05995210 Completed - Clinical trials for Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Comparing the Effectiveness of Kinesio Taping and Knee Orthosis in Patients With Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Start date: December 9, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the study is to compare the efficacy of kinesio taping treatment and knee orthosis treatment in Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFAS). 54 patients were included in the study and the patients were divided into 3 groups as kinesio taping group (KTG) (n=18), orthotics group (OG) (n=18) and control group (CG) (n=18). A progressive exercise program was applied to all groups and patients were treated 2 days a week for 6 weeks. While kinesio taping was applied to KTG in each session, knee orthosis was given to OG and they were asked to use it for 6 weeks. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Kujala Score, Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), isokinetic strength test (IST) and joint position sense (JPS) test were used in the evaluation.

NCT ID: NCT04434313 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

Treatment of Hemiparetic Gait Impairments Using Telehealth With the Moterum iStride Solution™

Start date: April 20, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this research is to investigate the feasibility of delivering gait treatment using the Moterum iStride Solution™ to individuals with hemiparetic gait impairments using a telemedicine modality, the Moterum Digital Platform.

Biomechanical Analysis of the Effects of Upper Limb Orthosis During the Execution of a Functional Task

Start date: December 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The orthotics are auxiliary therapeutic resources indicated for the relief of pain, improves functional standard or correction of deformities. There is a lack of studies that analyze the biomechanical changes promoted by the Orthotics in functional pattern of the upper limb. The objective of this proposal is to analyse biomechanical changes in the functional upper limb pattern with the use of orthoses for patients with dysfunctions arising from musculoskeletal system trauma or burns, aiming to contribute with scientific evidence to clinical practice. The project will analyze the changes in the pattern of the upper limb functional through the use of dynamic and static Orthotics by means of kinematic and electromyographic analysis while conducting a functional task. These comparisons will be carried out with and without the use of functional Orthotics, and the controls are the patients themselves. Methods: 25 patients will be included over 18 years with malfunctions resulting from orthopaedic trauma and Burns of the upper limb with indication and Orthotics for improving functional pattern. For characterization of the sample will be performed: esthesiometric , hand and the (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand) DASH Questionnaire. Biomechanical assessment will be used for the analysis and electromyographic kinematics. For statistical analysis will be applied the method of analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures, and when necessary, the post hoc Bonferroni test. Will be adopted as significance level p ≤ 0.05.
