Electromyographic´s Differences Between Dry Needling in Tonic or Phasic Skeletal Muscle Fibers.

Start date: February 11, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to compare the surface electromyography (EGM) changes between dry needling in the upper trapezius, is a prevalence tonic fiber or lower trapezius is a prevalence phasic fiber.

NCT ID: NCT03810768 Recruiting - Critical Illness Clinical Trials

Metabolomics Study on Postoperative Intensive Care Acquired Muscle Weakness

MIRACLE I
Start date: September 2, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In this mono-center pilot trial, surgical patients who are at high risk to be admitted to intensive care will be screened and asked for participation. We are going to take blood and muscle samples at respecified time points to do metabolic, histological and molecular testing. Aim of the study is to investigate (1) changes of the blood metabolome in patients with ICUAW (intensive care unit acquired weakness) and (2) identify metabolic components who are responsible for ICUAW or can be used as marker for ICUAW.

NCT ID: NCT03753412 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Recovery From ICUAW Following Severe Respiratory and Cardiac Failure

CLEVERER
Start date: April 9, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

To observe and identify determinants of recovery from intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICUAW) following a severe cardiorespiratory failure requiring extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Additionally, to discover the effects of ICUAW on physical function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after critical illness. CLEVERER is a clinical observational pilot study.

NCT ID: NCT03751644 Completed - Rheumatic Diseases Clinical Trials

Peripherical Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in Systemic Autoimmune Myopathies

Start date: November 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Systemic autoimmune myopathies are a heterogeneous group of rheumatic diseases with progressive skeletal muscle weakness. The relevance of the peripherical neuromuscular electrical stimulation has never applied in the patients with systemic autoimmune myopathies. Therefore, the main objective of the present prospective, randomized, investigator-blind, placebo-controlled study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the application of an acute peripherical neuromuscular electrical stimulation session in patients with systemic autoimmune myopathies.

NCT ID: NCT03749538 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Neurologic Manifestations

Acute Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Patients With Systemic Autoimmune Myopathies

Start date: October 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Systemic autoimmune myopathies are a heterogeneous group of rheumatic diseases that primarily affect the skeletal muscles. The transcranial direct current stimulation technique has been frequent, for example, in patients with ischemic stroke or for the optimization of muscular performance in athletes. However, to date, there are no studies evaluating this technique in patients with systemic autoimmune myopathies. Therefore, the main objective of the present prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the application of acute transcranial current stimulation session in patients with systemic autoimmune myopathies.

NCT ID: NCT03728803 Completed - Clinical trials for Inspiratory Muscle Training

Inspiratory Muscle Training in Nemaline Myopathy

NEMTRAIN
Start date: October 10, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Nemaline myopathy is a rare congenital myopathy. Respiratory failure is the main cause of death in these patients. The primary objective of this study is to determine the effect of a 8-week inspiratory muscle training program on respiratory muscle function in nemaline myopathy patients. The secondary objective is to determine respiratory muscle function in nemaline myopathy patients and its correlation with clinical severity and general neuromuscular function. The nemaline myopathy patients will be included in the first phase for a clinical characterization. From this phase patients will be selected for the second phase, which is a controlled before-after trial of inspiratory muscle training. The primary outcome is the change in maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) after active inspiratory muscle training

NCT ID: NCT03728777 Completed - Clinical trials for Mitochondrial Myopathies

Resveratrol Supplementation in Patients With Mitochondrial Myopathies and Skeletal Muscle Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders

Start date: April 9, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential beneficial effects of a daily supplement of Resveratrol (1000mg/day) on physical ability and on muscle metabolism in patients with verified mitochondrial myopathy and patients with a verified fatty acid oxidation defect of VLCAD and CPTII deficiencies. Investigators hypothesize an improved muscle metabolism, mitochondrial function, fatty acid oxidation and thus improvement of physical ability.

NCT ID: NCT03715777 Completed - Pelvic Pain Clinical Trials

Electromyographic Study for the Help and Guidance of BoNTA Administration in the Treatment of Chronic Pelvic Floor Pain

SEMG
Start date: October 29, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common presenting complaint affecting approximately 15-40 % of women aged 18-50 in western countries and 5-43% of women in most developing countries. It is debilitating and has a large socio- economic impact, with a 45%reduction in work productivity, and a 15% increase in absence from work in women with the condition. Botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNTA) has been suggested to improve pain in muscle spasm, its role in CPP secondary to pelvic floor spasm has gained increasing interest. However, clinicians do not have a diagnosis tool to evaluate the CPP and the BoNTA treatment results. Design and develop an efficient and simple tool for the diagnosis and detection of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) dysfunction based on superficial electromyography (EMG) and perform 25 EMG registrations sessions in healthy patients and 25 EMG sessions in patients diagnoses with PFM that will be treated with BoNTA to and study the EMG signal before and after BoNTA administration.

NCT ID: NCT03714399 Completed - Surgery Clinical Trials

Muscle Recovery Following Aortic Surgery Induced ICUAW.

VARIANCE
Start date: February 19, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

To identify determinants of 'good and bad recovery' from ICUAW and build knowledge around the timing of these processes. Also, the investigators want to discover the effects of ICUAW on physical function and HRQoL following aortic surgery.

NCT ID: NCT03693898 Recruiting - Bethlem Myopathy Clinical Trials

MR in Patients With Collagen VI Related Myopathies

Start date: September 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Collagen VI-related diseases include Bethlem myopathy and Ulrich dystrophy. They are both caused by decreased levels or a lack of collagen VI. The first symptoms can be present at birth as joint laxity and hypotonic muscles; often seen with luxation of the hip and scoliosis. During childhood, patients may develop contractures of fingers, wrists, elbows and ankles. Muscle weakness often appears in childhood to early adulthood and is progressive. It often results in walking difficulties. There is no treatment available for Behtlem and Ulrich dystrophies. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the pattern of involved muscles, the function and quality of the muscles and the disease severity using MRI.
