The Role of Attachment Training in Mother-infant Attachment

The study aimed to investigate the effect of attachment training given to pregnant women on mother-infant attachment.Primiparous pregnant women between 28.-38. weeks were randomized into two groups. Pregnant women in the study group were given attachment training for 15 days and the effect of the training on mother-infant attachment was investigated by using the mother-infant attachment scale at postpartum week 8 in comparison with the control group.

The Effects of Mother-Baby Yoga and Baby Massage on Attachment and Sleep

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of mother-baby yoga and massage on mother-baby bonding and the baby's sleep. Method: A randomised, crossover pilot study was conducted in the postpartum service of a hospital between January and November 2023, with 60 mothers and their babies in the postpartum period, 30 in each group. To the mothers and their babies included in the research, baby massage was applied to one group and mother-baby yoga was applied to the other. After four weeks, the groups' practices were changed. In the results of the research, characteristics related to attachment and sleep were evaluated.

Tandem: Skin-to-skin Transfer From the Delivery Room to the Neonatal Unit

Immediate skin-to-skin contact (SSC) is already standard care for healthy term newborns, but its use for term or preterm newborns requiring admission to neonatal unit (NICU) with or without respiratory support is challenging. This study aimed to assess the safety and feasibility of SSC during the transfer of newborn infants, using a new purpose-built mobile shuttle care-station, called "Tandem". A monocentric prospective observational study was conducted at the tertiary referral center of the Université libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium Infants born with a birth weight above 1500g were eligible. Following initial stabilization, infants were placed in SSC with one of their parents and transferred to the NICU using the Tandem.

The Effect of Lullaby and Breastmilk Smell on Preterm Newborns

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effect of live lullaby from mother voice, and breast milk smell on pyhsiological parameters, comfort and maternal attachment levels of preterm newborns who are between 35-37 weeks of gestation at the time of the study and the level of pospartum depression of mothers. The main hypothesis are: H0: The live lullaby from mother voice and breast milk smell have no effects on pyhsiological parameters, comfort and maternal attachment levels of preterm newborns H1: The live lullaby from mother voice has effects on pyhsiological parameters, comfort and maternal attachment levels of preterm newborns H2: The breast milk smell has effects on pyhsiological parameters, comfort and maternal attachment levels of preterm newborns H3: There is differences between the live lullaby from mother voice and the breast milk smell interventions in terms of preterm newborns' physiological parameters, comfort and maternal attachment levels. H4: The postpartum depression level of mothers in experimental groups (lullaby group and breast milk group) is lower than the control group. Participants will be in three groups according to the interventions. The preterm newborns who are going to listen a live lullaby from their mothers' voice will be the first group (Lullaby group). The preterms in the second group (Breast milk group) are going to smell their mothers' breast milk. The preterms in the third group (Control group) are going to recieve rutin nursing care interventions.

Effect of Problem-Solving Training

The aim of this study, therefore, is to determine the effect of problem-solving training on the interpersonal problem-solving skills of mothers with special needs children. This study was a parallel randomized controlled trial. The mothers were sorted into control and experimental groups (40 experimental and 40 control groups). A personal information form and the Interpersonal Problem Solving Inventory (IPSI) were used to collect data in this research. The participants in the experimental group gived to problem solving training program while the control group was not exposed to any intervention.The data in the control and experimental groups were homogeneously distributed. There was no significant difference in the pre-training test scores for any of the dimensions , but the post-training test scores were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. Intragroup analysis with the Wilcoxon sign-rank test showed that there were significant differences between the pre-training and post-training test scores in the experimental group. Interpersonal problem-solving skills can be improved by providing problem-solving training to the mothers of children with special needs. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that psychiatric nurses provide training to protect and improve the well-being of children with special needs and their families.

Maternal Involvement in Pain Management in NICU

Infants admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) may experience a negative impact due to multiple painful and stressful procedures during their hospitalization. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that healthcare facilities taking care of newborns should implement pain prevention and management programs. There are some non-pharmacological techniques that have been developed to reduce newborn's pain perception, including swaddling, holding, non-nutritive sucking in infants with Post-menstrual age (PMA) below 32 weeks, nutritional sucking with the administration of breast milk or sweeteners above 32 weeks PMA and exposure to maternal voice. Even for parents, the experience of NICU hospitalization of their child is a particularly stressful event, mainly characterized by feelings of exclusion due to lack of interactions with their own baby due to their clinical conditions. Hence, it is very important to intervene as soon as possible on parental stress that can affect the physical and psychological quality of life of the family. This is possible through the application of nursing care plans that involve the parents in daily care and support them in the long process of development and acquisition of autonomy and skills. The nurse is a healthcare provider who has the most frequent contact with newborns hospitalized in NICU and has a key role in preventing, recognizing, and managing newborn's pain. However, there is a considerable discrepancy between the theory and practice: many nurses and doctors are aware that most of the procedures carried out in NICU cause pain. Therefore, nurses also can develop high levels of physical and psychological stress, particularly when they manage a newborn who feels pain. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if maternal involvement in the pain management of newborn admitted to NICU may reduce the level of pain perceived by infant during the heel stick procedure using the Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP) pain scoring tool. In addition, the study's secondary goal will be to investigate if maternal involvement in pain management of newborn may produce positive effects on the mother in reducing stress, depression and anxiety and in reducing nurses' physical and psychological stress.
