Filter by:Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is an abnormal atrial displacement of the mitral valve leaflet hinge point. MAD is gaining clinical importance for several studies reporting its association to mitral valve prolapse (MVP), complex ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. On the other hand, other studies found MAD as an extremely diffuse anatomical variant of mitral valve annulus without any pathological implication. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance is the non-invasive gold standard for myocardial characterization, with the possibility of accurate anatomical and functional evaluation associated to the evaluation of focal and interstitial fibrosis, resulting useful in the identification of arrhythmic substrate and for patients risk stratification. Additionally, Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) was found to be superior to echocardiography not only in term of tissue characterization, but also in the identification of small MAD. Therefore, in relation to the scarcity of data about MAD prevalence and pathological potential, we set a large multicenter retrospective study aimed to evaluate prevalence of MAD in patients submitted to CMR independently by the clinical suspicion, and to evaluate the association with prolapse and arrhythmias.
Safety and performance evaluation of the NeoChord Transcatheter Mitral Repair System in patients with degenerative mitral valve regurgitation.
The goal of this project is to study whether local anesthetic via the erector spinae plane (ESP) block may be beneficial in minimally invasive mitral valve surgery (MIMVS).

On the other hand, the proper determination of length and placement of artificial neochordae is still a challenge beyond this technique. These challenges are still a vital area for research and debate between surgeons and researchers. In our novel technique,Investigators are not depending either on the preoperative investigations or intraoperative reference chordae in the adjustment of the optimal length of the neochordae, however, Researchers depend on the personal adjustment of the chordal length to the prolapsed scallop.
Mitral valve disease is a common pathologic problem occurring in approximately 2% of the general population but climbing to 10% in those over the age of 75 in Canada[1]. This project has three primary goals all of which will positively affect cardiac patient care. 1) Create patient specific MV models for complex repairs that will allow surgeons the opportunity to practice the repair. 2) Potentially predict the outcomes following minimally invasive repair techniques such as transcatheter treatments (e.g., MitraClip). 3) Provide a model to train individuals on mitral valve repair techniques.
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a relatively common cardial problem in which one or more of the leaflets of the mitral valve prolapse during systole into the left atrium. The disease is very heterogeneous and can vary from a benign disease with almost no impact on the patient's life to a severe cardiac problem with many complications and high mortality rate. The purpose of the study is to see if the investigators can find a relation between the severity of the MVP to the exercise capacity of the patient. The investigators also want to see if they can find a difference between the exercise capacity of mild MVP patients and healthy people. To evaluate the exercise capacity of the subjects the investigators use Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET). CPET is probably the best known way to get a full picture of the subject's functions during exercise. By combining gas exchange monitoring and ECG during a controlled exercise in which the subject reaches maximal effort, the test gives information about the cardiac, the pulmonary and the metabolic functions of the subject. This information can help identify if there is a problem to perform exercise properly and more specifically if the limitation is due to a cardiac, pulmonary or metabolic problem.
