A4i-O: A Platform for Complex Behavioral Health to Address OUD

For the purposes of beta testing the first version of A4i-O, 15 individuals with OUD will use the platform for one month. From a design perspective this sample size is viewed as being sufficient to answer questions regarding app functionality and feasibility before moving to larger trials. Additionally, 15 individuals is a larger sample size than in the A4i pilot. This is an open label pilot with a primary objective of troubleshooting and providing early feedback on the beta version of the technology. To that end, 15 participants are anticipated to be sufficient to provide robust, early feedback. As with the focus groups, through sampling an effort will be made to secure a diverse group. Any individuals who might be declined in that effort at this stage (e.g., it is determined that no more male identifying participants are needed but they were interested) would be invited to take part in the subsequent RCT.

Support Groups in the Metaverse for Ukrainian Refugees

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the efficacy of support groups held in the Metaverse, designed to promote mental health and well-being in Ukrainian refugees. Participants: - will be allocated to one of three conditions: (1) Metaverse support group (intervention); (2) In-Person support group (intervention); or (3) Waitlist. - will be asked to participate in 5 support group sessions, once per week, for each intervention condition. The Metaverse support groups will be compared with the In-Person support groups and with the Waitlist, to test: - the efficacy of the Metaverse condition compared to the In-Person condition. - the efficacy of the intervention conditions compared to the waitlist.

Anxiety Associated With the Use of the Electrocardiogram Function in Smart Watches

The integration of electrocardiography (ECG) functionality into smartwatches is primarily intended to screen for atrial fibrillation, a frequent cause of ischemic stroke, among people aged 50 years and older. However, it should be noted that recommendations for atrial fibrillation screening are controversial, and several organizations and communities do not recommend screening outside of at-risk groups. Some smart device manufacturers do not recommend using the ECG function for anyone under the age of 22. However, young people are frequent users of wearable devices. One of the most common cardiologic diseases at the age of 18-30 is benign heart rhythm disorder, which often does not require diagnosis or treatment and can be considered normal. That said, notification of the detection of atrial fibrillation can affect psycho-emotional well-being, particularly anxiety. This study will assess the level of psycho-emotional health (anxiety level) of the study participants. Participant observation will provide an opportunity to identify associations between the use of the ECG recording function on wearable devices and levels of anxiety and depression. It is hypothesized that the use of smartwatches with the ECG function activated will not lead to a change in anxiety levels on the GAD-7 scale among the study participants. This assumes that after 30 days of use, the mean value of the GAD-7 scale in the intervention group and the control group will be the same.

Two Tutorial Action Programs, Incidental and Structured, on the General Welfare of Elementary School Students.

The aim of this paper is twofold: on the one hand, to test the effectiveness of a structured emotional education program in second, third and fourth grade primary school students and, on the other hand, to test the differential effect of such a program in relation to an incidental tutorial action focused on the ordinary school curriculum. A randomized controlled trial is proposed in Lauro Ikastola with three experimental groups (second, third and fourth of primary education) and three active control groups (one for each of the three courses) with pretest and posttest and with the duration of a school year.

Emotional Intelligence Program for Adolescents With Antisocial Behavior (DYNAMIS)

This study assessed the effectiveness of an emotional intelligence program based on the Salovey and Mayer model among adolescents exhibiting antisocial behavior. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 231 Colombian adolescent offenders (122 in the experimental group). A 12-session psychological protocol was implemented. The primary question it aims to address is whether it is feasible for adolescents with antisocial behavior to reduce negative emotional symptoms related to mental health, such as anxiety, stress, and depression, while simultaneously improving their emotional skills. It was observed that those who completed the program showed significant improvements in emotional intelligence, emotional balance, and resilience while experiencing a decrease in emotional symptoms, particularly in stress.

Psychiatric Outcomes of Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms (POUIA)

The impact of cerebrovascular procedures on patients experiencing anxiety and depression is not well studied despite the high prevalence of these mental health disorders. Unruptured Intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) have a prevalence of approximately 3% and an annual risk of 1-2% in the general population. Despite the high risk of fatality following aneurysm rupture with a rate of 40-50%, the overall aneurysm growth and rupture risks are rare (less than 3% per aneurysm per year) and many patients can be observed with serial follow-up imaging over years. Nevertheless, due to the gravity of the bad consequences of aneurysm rupture, simply informing many patients of UIA diagnosis has been found to result in worse outcomes of health-related quality of life. This study aims to investigate the impact of awareness of untreated UIA on the patients' mental health utilizing the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) tool.

Nurse Suicide: Physiologic Sleep Health Promotion Trial

The purpose of this study is to identify factors (sleep, psychiatric characteristics, stressful life events, and work environment characteristics) that potentiate or mitigate adverse effects of real-world stressors that predispose nurses to suicidal risk. The specific aims are: Aim 1. To investigate associations between sleep, stressful life events (life stressors, discrimination, lateral violence), psychiatric characteristics (psychiatric diagnosis, subjective mood), work environment characteristics (workload, shift type and duration, overtime, nurse work environment, and team relations) and stress (self-report and heart rate variability) in working nursing professionals while controlling for standard covariates known to influence stress. Aim 2. To determine if stress exposure (self-report and HRV) is associated with predisposing factors (sleep, stressful life events, additional psychiatric characteristics, and work environment characteristics), and to explore whether stress mediates the effect of predisposing factors on suicidal ideation in working nursing professionals. Exploratory Aim. To explore the preliminary impact of an existing sleep intervention (sleep health promotion kit) on self-reported stress, HRV, sleep, and psychiatric health outcomes including depression, burnout, and suicidal ideation.

The Effect of Reducing Total Volume of Sprint Exercise on Circulating Levels of BDNF

Regular exercise is well known to be required for good physical health, but exercise can also improve mental health. Although the effects of exercise on mental health have been shown in many studies, it remains unclear how exercise improves mental health. In recent years, the potential role of a specific protein called 'brain-derived neurotrophic factor' (BDNF) has received increasing attention. Higher levels of BDNF in the blood are associated with better cognitive performance, attention, and spatial memory. Conversely, low levels of BDNF in the blood are found in patients with depression, dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and Alzheimer's disease. BDNF can be released during exercise, with greater increases after exercise performed at higher intensities. For example, classic sprint interval training (SIT), which involves four 30-second 'all-out' cycle sprints, has been shown to lead to greater increases in BDNF compared to moderate or vigorous exercise. Although these results suggest that SIT is an effective way to increase BDNF, SIT is not generally considered feasible for patients or untrained members of the general public, because it is a very tiring type of exercise. However, other more manageable protocols have been developed, such as the 'reduced-exertion, high-intensity interval training' (REHIT) protocol, which involves two 20-second 'all-out' sprints within a 10-minute low-intensity exercise session. Although it is clear that BDNF levels increase in an intensity-dependent manner in response to exercise, the effect of exercise volume remains unknown. Exercise intensity is identical for SIT and REHIT, but if BDNF levels increase to a similar extent in response to both protocols, REHIT would constitute a more feasible intervention for use in patients and the general public. The aim of the present study is to compare the effects of REHIT vs. classic SIT on levels of BDNF in the blood. For this,15 study participants will be recruited, who will each complete a SIT session, a REHIT session, and a no-exercise control session. Levels of BDNF will be measured in blood samples taken at rest, as well as directly after exercise, 30 minutes after exercise, and 90 minutes after exercise. It will be determined whether the greater amount of sprint exercise in a SIT session will be associated with a greater increase in levels of BDNF in the blood compared to the REHIT session which consists of a lower amount of sprint exercise.

Satir Model for Self-esteem, Mental Health, and Family Function Among Individuals With Substance Use Disorders

Self-esteem and family functioning are associated with mental health and success of drug treatment among individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). The Satir model aims to empower individuals to explore their internal resources, address emotional issues, shift coping strategies, enhancing self-esteem, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. It offers a range of techniques to enhance self-esteem, challenging negative belief systems, and promote personal growth. The aim of the study is to investigate the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of the Satir model on self-esteem, mental health, and family function among individuals with SUD in China. The study will adopt a mixed-method approach. The quantitative phase will employ a randomized control trial (RCT) utilizing a pre-post study design. The qualitative phase will involve conducting semi-structured individual interviews.The data will be analyzed by using SPSS software package (IBM SPSS statistics version 26.0). The individual-interview will be analyzed by using the six-phase thematic analysis. The study has the potential to advance knowledge in the field of drug rehabilitation interventions, inform evidence-based practice, and improve the wellbeing and outcomes of individual with SUD. It can contribute to the ongoing efforts to address the complex challenges associated with substance use and support individual on their trajectory to recovery.
