NCT ID: NCT03671005 Terminated - Psychotic Disorder Clinical Trials

Mindfulness-based Group Therapy for Inpatients With Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders

Start date: May 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A single-centered randomized controlled trial with a parallel-groups design is utilized, comprised of mindfulness-based group therapy (MBGT) in the experimental condition, and treatment as usual (TAU) in the control condition. Participants in the experimental condition continued their regular psychiatric treatment (TAU) next to the participation in the MBGT. In order to evaluate possible psychotherapeutic effects, self-report and other clinical questionnaires including interviews and app-based assessments are evaluated before (T0), and after the four-week intervention (T1). Ward psychiatrists identify eligible participants and invite them to participate in the study. An eligibility screening is held by the study assistant at baseline, introducing the study, providing informed consent in written form, as well as conducting the self-report measures and app-based assessments. A blinded psychiatrist who works independently of the (co-) therapist conducts the remaining rater-questionnaires. Due to the psychotherapeutic nature of the study, information about the treatment allocation had to be shared with the co-therapist and the participants. Randomization was conducted by the Random Group Generator (pubmed, 2018). The data management plan includes standard procedures for data-handling such as using anonymized identification codes for patient data. The participants have the right to access their data, and the right to claim an annihilation. The data is being stored in locked cupboards, only allowing researchers involved in the study to access the data.

NCT ID: NCT03527550 Terminated - Mental Disorders Clinical Trials

Cognitive Control Training for Urgency in a Naturalistic Clinical Setting

Start date: September 11, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is designed to test whether computer-based cognitive exercises are helpful for reducing a specific type of impulsivity. Also, the study is testing whether these are exercises are associated with specific changes in behavior and in the brain. Participants will be psychiatric patients enrolled in a partial hospitalization program. Half of these participants will receive usual treatment, and half will complete computer-based cognitive exercises in addition to usual treatment.

NCT ID: NCT03508518 Terminated - Mental Disorder Clinical Trials

Improving Access to Psychiatric Care for Patients in Primary Care

DSPP-PSY
Start date: August 28, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Getting a consultation with a psychiatrist within an appropriate time is one of the main issues reported by general practitioners (GP) for patients suffering from mental disorders in primary care. Consultation liaison in psychiatry is a system focused on general medicine-psychiatry collaboration. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the impact of the consultation-liaison on the adequacy of the access time to a psychiatric consultation according to the degree of urgency evaluated by the GP.

NCT ID: NCT03485898 Terminated - Behavior Disorders Clinical Trials

Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of the study is to assess the mortality of patient discharged from the specialized cognitive-behavioral unit (UCC) of Toulon.

NCT ID: NCT03340909 Terminated - Psychosis Clinical Trials

The Norwegian Prednisolone in Early Psychosis Study

NorPEPS
Start date: February 2, 2018
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Objective: The primary objective of this trial is to investigate whether prednisolone improves symptom severity as compared to placebo when given in addition to antipsychotic medication to patients with early-stage psychotic disorder. Secondary objectives include improvement of cognitive functioning and positive, negative and general psychopathological symptoms as well as general functioning. Study design: Randomized placebo-controlled double-blind trial. Study population: 90 men and women, with an age of 18 years and older, diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorder. The time interval between the onset of psychosis and study entry should not exceed five years and CRP level should be at least 3.9 mg/L. Intervention: Patients will be randomized 1:1 to either prednisolone or placebo daily for a period of 6 weeks. Identical tablets will be administered. Prednisolone will be initiated at 40 mg for three days, after which it will be phased out within 6 weeks after start, following current treatment guidelines. Main study parameters/endpoints: Primary outcome is change in symptom severity, expressed as a change in total score on the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS) from baseline to end of the 6-week treatment. Secondary outcomes are a 6-month follow-up assessment of PANSS, cognitive functioning (measured through a repeatable neurocognitive battery, change in GAF scores and the measurement of various immunological biomarkers. In post-hoc analyses, attempts will be made to identify baseline blood markers with predictive properties regarding improvement in the anti-inflammatory drug treatment arm. Expected benefits for consumers and care givers: A decrease in symptom severity is expected, as low grade brain inflammation may be associated with psychotic symptoms. The results may give raise to a new line of scientific research as well as treatment options for a disabling disorder.

NCT ID: NCT03261817 Terminated - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

A Controlled Study With Remote Web-based Adapted Physical Activity (e-APA) in Psychotic Disorders

PEPSYV@SI
Start date: September 29, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In this study, an APA program by web (e-APA) will be offered to two groups of participants (21 patients and 21 healthy volunteers (HV)) in remote video (use of the SAPATIC (Santé Activités Physiques Adaptées utilisant les Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication) platform developed by the company V@SI). At the same time, two control groups, a group of 21 patients and a group of 21 HV will undergo an health education program (HE) through the collaborative SAPATIC health platform of V@Si and will constitute the control groups. The content of the APA sessions will be administered by V@Si. This program offers content aimed to improve aerobic capacity and muscular strength while relying on the motivation of the participants

NCT ID: NCT03230097 Terminated - Psychotic Disorders Clinical Trials

This Study Tests Whether BI 409306 Prevents Patients With a Specific Type of Mental Illness (Attenuated Psychosis Syndrome) From Becoming Worse. This Study Looks at How Well Patients Tolerate the Medicine and How Effective it is Over 1 Year

Start date: September 29, 2017
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a study in people between 16 and 30 years of age who have a specific type of mental illness called attenuated psychosis syndrome (APS). The purpose of this study is to find out whether BI 409306 helps reduce the symptoms of APS. Participants are in the study for 1 year and 2 months. During this time, they visit the study site about 15 times and get about 10 phone calls. Participants are put into 2 groups by chance. They get either BI 409306 or placebo. Placebo tablets look like BI 409306 tablets but do not contain any medicine. Participants take a BI 409306 or placebo tablet two times a day. During the study, participants answer questions in interviews and complete questionnaires so the doctors can check whether the APS symptoms change. The doctors also check the general health of the participants.

NCT ID: NCT03075475 Terminated - Behavior Problem Clinical Trials

Effectiveness Study of a Treatment to Improve the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents

Start date: June 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This randomized controlled trial evaluates the effectiveness of a psychotherapeutic intervention, the Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA), to address the mental health needs of children and adolescents age 8-17 who have been affected by armed conflict in Kachin State, Myanmar. The 10-12 week talk-based counseling treatment, delivered by community mental health workers, will be evaluated against a wait-list control group. This project follows on a recently completed trial of CETA for adult trauma survivors from Myanmar along the Thai-Myanmar border which found that CETA was acceptable, accessible, and effective in improving mental health and functioning of adults. The investigators hypothesize that the intervention will be similarly effective for improving the mental health and functioning of children and adolescents.
