The SINgapore GERiatric Intervention Study to Reduce Cognitive Decline and Physical Frailty (SINGER) Study

SINGER
Start date: August 23, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A study in Finland found that a multidomain intervention of physical activity, nutritional guidance, cognitive training, social activities and management of vascular risk factors slowed cognitive decline in healthy older adults at increased risk of cognitive decline. A 6-month pilot study was initiated in Singapore, which demonstrated the cultural feasibility and practicality of the FINGER interventions and a set of locally adapted interventions in an Asian population. The SINGER study is a 2-year randomized controlled trial that aims to test the efficacy and safety of these lifestyle changes, including diet and cardiovascular risk factor management, cognitive and physical exercises, in delaying cognitive decline in older adults at risk of dementia.

NCT ID: NCT04949542 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Caregiver to a Young Adult With Early Psychosis

Bolster: Caregiver App to Reduce Duration of Untreated Psychosis

Start date: August 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The proposed research project aims to develop and test a mobile health intervention designed to improve caregivers' illness knowledge and caregiving skills through interactive cognitive-behavioral modules, and through these improvements, reduce distress, improve coping, improve family communication, increase caregiver treatment facilitation and reduce duration of untreated psychosis. This clinical trial will involve a remote pilot randomized controlled trial comparing this new intervention to existing online caregiving support resources. Analyses will determine whether this approach is acceptable and feasible, as well as explore its effectiveness and impact on key components of the cognitive model of caregiving.

NCT ID: NCT04946916 Recruiting - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Neurofilament Light Chains and Cognitive Impairment in Chronic Psychiatric Disease

Nfl_COG
Start date: October 22, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The validation of biomarkers allowing the discrimination of cognitive and behavioral disorders of psychiatric origin from those of neurodegenerative origin would facilitate diagnosis and improve patient management. Neurofilaments, which are markers of neuronal lysis, appear to be a promising biomarker. In a previous preliminary study, the investigators demonstrated significantly lower concentrations of neurofilaments in CSF of psychiatric patients compared to neurodegenerative diseases. The main objective of this study is to validate the plasma assay of neurofilament light chain as a biomarker for the differential diagnosis of psychiatric or neurodegenerative cognitive impairment. Other biomarkers of interest (Tau, TDP-43, GFAP and UCH-L1) will also be analyzed. A sub-part of this study will also focus on the retrospective analysis of the CSF/Plasma correlations of the different biomarkers mentioned above from tube bottom samples taken in routine care.

NCT ID: NCT04946253 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Child Behavior Problem

SKIP for PA Study: Team and Leadership Level Implementation Support for Collaborative Care

SKIPforPA
Start date: November 29, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In a prior application (MH064372), the investigators' treatment research program (Services for Kids In Primary-care, SKIP) developed and tested a chronic care model-based intervention, called Doctor Office Collaborative Care (DOCC), that was found to be effective in the management of childhood behavior problems and comorbid ADHD. In the "SKIP for PA Study", the investigators propose to conduct a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the effects of team- and practice leadership-level implementation strategies designed to enhance the use and uptake of DOCC in diverse pediatric primary care offices.

NCT ID: NCT04945278 Recruiting - Psychotic Disorder Clinical Trials

Study of Self-Recognition and Self/Other Distinction Disorders in Patients With Psychological Vulnerability

ALTER-EGO
Start date: May 31, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The main objective of this study is to establish whether there are differences in self-recognition and self/other distinction in subjects with psychological vulnerability compared to healthy volunteer controls.

NCT ID: NCT04941690 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction, Psychological Disorders, and Sexual Performance Among Men Seeking Medical Help for Fertility

Start date: June 26, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS), sexual health is directly related to everyone's mental health and quality of life. Sexuality is innate to humans and is closely linked to their reproduction. Thus, a correlation between unmet fertility desires and sexual disorders can be observed in infertile couples. In fact, sexual intercourse itself will not be as natural in most cases and will preferentially occur during the "reproductive window". Thus, sexuality will be deprived of recreational and erotic activities, and sexuality will be used only for reproduction. For many men, sexual intercourse will become coercive, repetitive and mechanical, offering little emotion. The interactions between infertility and wife recurrent miscarriage in sexuality are numerous and complex. Many men will perceive their infertility as a loss of masculinity and virility and may feel low self-esteem and depression, in addition, Decreased sperm quality may lead to anxiety in men, which may eventually lead to temporary Sexual Dysfunction (SD).Therefore, the need to identify SD and its severity is crucial for infertile men before receiving individualized male treatment.

NCT ID: NCT04940663 Recruiting - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Neurobehavioral Mechanisms of Social Isolation and Loneliness in Serious Mental Illness

Start date: July 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The proposed research will test the hypothesis that objective social isolation and loneliness are linked to neurobehavioral mechanisms involved in social perception and motivation in individuals with and without serious mental illness. Moreover, it will investigate the specific dynamic interactions among these experiences in daily life and how they, and their neurobehavioral predictors, are linked to day-to-day functioning. The findings of this project could provide novel targets for therapeutics aimed at improving functioning and overall quality of life in individuals with serious mental illnesses, as well as quantitative phenotypes for use in early detection efforts.

NCT ID: NCT04929938 Recruiting - Psychosis Clinical Trials

Application of UP for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders for UHR for Psychosis Patients

Start date: September 6, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The principal aim of the study is to assess the efficacy of the Unified Protocol (UP) for the treatment of the comorbid symptomatology of patients with Ultra High Risk (UHR) for psychosis. The secondary aims would be to assess the effects of the intervention with the UP on the subthreshold positive symptoms and the transition to psychosis rates at 3 months follow-up, insight, positive and negative emotions, emotion regulation skills, personality, quality of life, cognitive distortions, psychosocial functioning and the maintenance of the effects at the 3 months of follow-up. The study is a randomised controlled trial in which a group will receive inmediate UP plus standard intervention and the other one will be in a waiting list plus standard care at our Early Psychosis Program (PIPPEP). The evaluator will be blind to the group that owns every patients. The sample will be 42 patients with UHR for psychosis with comorbid emotional symptoms and are visited at the PIPPEP of the CSMA Ripollet (PSSJD). The assessment will be performed at baseline, at the end of treatment and at three months follow-up and will include: general psychopathology (SCID), anxiety and depression (BDI-II, BAI), positive and negative emotions (PANAS), emotional disregulation (DERS), personality (NEO-FFI), functionality (EEASL, MI), quality of life (QLI-sp), cognitive distortions (CBQ), insight (BCIS) and a scale of satisfaction created ad-hoc. At the end of each session with the UP we will assess depression and anxiety during the last week (ODSIS, OASIS). Treatment with the UP will consist in 15 group sessions of 8 patients, 120 minutes in addition to the treatment as usual.

NCT ID: NCT04927533 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Psychiatric Disorder

The Ronnie Gardiner Method Effectiveness Study

Start date: March 10, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators want to investigate the feasibility and transdiagnostic effectiveness of the Ronnie Gardiner Method (RGM) in a sample of Flemish psychogeriatric residential patients (≥60 years old) admitted to the Psychiatric Clinic of Alexianen Zorggroep Tienen. No control group will be used in this study, as every patient in the clinic is entitled to receive treatment. The investigators expect to observe significant improvements in the core executive functions (core EFs) by RGM participation. The investigators expect that the more sessions participants follow, the larger the effects will be. Given the strong connection between executive functions and emotion regulation, the investigators anticipate that strengthening the core EFs will in turn contribute to better emotion regulation. More specifically, the mediating role of core EFs in the relationship between the number of RGM sessions attended and improvement in emotion regulation is investigated. Given RGMs previously reported effects on quality of life, the investigators also expect to observe improved well-being. Additionally, the investigators want to examine to what extent positive experiences with RGM and temperament based personality types influence the effectiveness of the RGM training. The RGM training will be organised twice a week for a period of 12 weeks. The training sessions will be provided by trained RGM-practitioners in the Psychiatric Clinic of the Alexianen Zorggroep Tienen. Each session will last at least 45 minutes. Core EFs, emotion regulation and well-being are evaluated pre-, mid- and post-RGM (at 6-week intervals) using a number of relevant instruments (i.e. questionnaires and neuropsychological tests). At baseline, the information and consent forms will be delivered to the patient and exclusion criteria will be checked using the MMSE and the patient file. Experiences with RGM training will be evaluated midway and post-intervention by means of a brief questionnaire developed by the research team. Personality type questionnaires (The Behavioural Inhibition System (BIS)/Behavioural Activation System (BAS) scales and the Effortful Control (EC) scale), which allow us to study whether a particular temperament based personality type is predictive of RGMs success, are routinely administered in the psychiatric clinic upon admission.
