NCT ID: NCT04743700 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Angle Class II, Division 1 Malocclusion

"Effects of Piezocision vs Micro-osteoperforations on the Rate of Maxillary Canine Retraction

Start date: December 25, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement persuades tremendous rise in the interest of adolescents and aduts, as it not only shortens the treatment duration but also lessens the incidence of white spot lesions, root resorption, periodontal and other soft tissue problems. Minimal invasive techniques i.e.both piezocision and micro-osteoperforations had promising results in accelerating tooth movement. Therefore current study will provide evidence for better minimal invasive technique in terms of reducing treatment time and patient comfort.

NCT ID: NCT04743258 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Class II Division 1 Malocclusion

Bilateral Premolar Extraction vs Distalization: A Randomised Clinical Trial

Start date: January 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Rationale: Class II Division 1 malocclusion is characterized by upper anterior teeth protrusion resulting in upper lip protrusion and convex facial profile, which are considered esthetically unfavorable. Treatment of class II malocclusion due to maxillary protrusion can be done with bilateral maxillary first premolar extraction followed by en-masse retraction of upper anterior teeth using mini implants placed between maxillary 2nd premolar & 1st molar. Treatment of class II malocclusion due to maxillary protrusion without premolar extraction frequently requires distalization of maxillary molars into Class I molar relation by means of extra-oral or intraoral forces. Absolute skeletal anchorage, available 24 hours a day is an alternative method for molar distalization. Zygomatic miniplates fixed at a distance from the root apices, allows distalization of entire dentition as there is no interference between the fixation device and roots of the teeth. Aims and Objectives: To evaluate dental, skeletal & soft tissue changes achieved with maxillary premolar extraction vs full arch distalization. Method of study: Patients will be allocated randomly to 2 groups-G1 and G2. Patients in G1 will undergo bilateral maxillary 1st premolar extraction before bonding followed by leveling & alignment. Maxillary arch will be stabilized with the help of 0.019"×0.025" stainless steel wire. Hooks will be soldered on archwire used for stabilizing dentition. Mini implants will be placed under local anaesthesia between maxillary 2nd premolar & 1st molar. Ni-Ti closed coil spring will be used to apply a force for en masse retraction of maxillary anterior teeth . In G2, treatment will be initiated by bonding 0.022" slot MBT preadjusted edgewise appliance. Maxillary arch will be stabilized with the help of 0.019"×0.025" stainless steel wire. Zygomatic miniplates will be placed bilaterally. Hooks will be soldered on archwire used for stabilizing dentition. Ni-Ti closed coil spring will be used to apply a force .

NCT ID: NCT04354116 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Cleft Lip and Palate

MARPE in Patients With Cleft Lip and Palate

Start date: January 10, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this randomized controlled study will be to evaluate the dental and skeletal effects of maxillary protraction with a facemask, associated with MARPE and Class III elastics in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (CLP) with maxillary retrusion, compared to HYRAX type maxillary expanders. The investigators will examine differences in treatment times, along with skeletal, dental and soft tissue changes.

NCT ID: NCT04151875 Recruiting - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Effect of Extraction Vs Non-extraction Orthodontic Treatment on Vertical Facial Dimension

Start date: June 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the current clinical trial was to evaluate the effects of premolar extractions compared with non-extraction orthodontic treatment on the skeletal vertical dimension of the face. The null-hypothesis is that there is no difference in post-treatment skeletal vertical characteristics of normodivergent and hyperdivergent patients treated orthodontically with first premolar extractions compared with patients treated in non-extraction manner.

NCT ID: NCT04117360 Recruiting - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Orthognathic Speech Pathology: Phonetic Contrasts of Patients With Dental Discrepancies Pre- and Post-Treatment Analyses

OSP
Start date: September 11, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The investigators are studying how speech is effected by jaw and tooth position in jaw surgery patients. Eighty percent of our jaw surgery patients have speech pathologies, compared to five percent of the general population, but speech pathologists do not understand why. The investigators hypothesize that open bites and underbites prevent most patients from being able to pronounce words normally and surgical correction will lead to improvement in speech. Patients will be audio recorded speaking and patients' tongue gestures ultrasound recorded before and after their jaw surgeries to observe what changes occur in their speech and tongue movements.

NCT ID: NCT04002999 Recruiting - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Precision Orthodontics: Virtual Treatment Planning for Orthodontic Braces

Start date: August 30, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators are evaluating the effectiveness of custom-made 3D-printed ceramic (tooth-colored) brackets (braces) compared to conventional tooth-colored brackets (braces). Participants will be expected to come in for regularly scheduled appointments. They will be treated with tooth-colored braces and will need to come in every 4-6 weeks and will be randomly assigned to one of three groups. "Randomly" means by chance, like a coin toss. Neither participants nor the researchers may choose group assignments. Group 1 patients will have tooth-colored braces placed directly on each tooth by the clinician. Group 2 patients will have the braces placed on the teeth by using trays to fit them on. Group 3 patients will have customized 3D printed tooth-colored braces placed on their teeth, using trays to fit them on. If a participant is selected to be part of group 3, it may take up to two additional weeks for these 3D brackets to be printed and shipped and so this might delay treatment onset. Information on gender, age, and medical history of participants will also be obtained from the electronic health record.

NCT ID: NCT03903575 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Bimaxillary Protrusion

3D Comparison of Anterior Teeth Retraction and Anchorage Control Between En-masse and Two-step Mechanics

Start date: April 3, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to compare en masse (EM) and two-step anterior teeth retraction (TSR) evaluated by means of three-dimensional images superimposition. Thirty-two adult patients with bimaxillary protrusion planed for treatment with four first premolar extractions will be enrolled. All patients will be randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to either EM (n=16) group or the TSR (n=16) group. Cone bean computed tomography will be taken before and after anterior retraction. A blind observer will construct separate 3D models for maxillary and mandibular surfaces using the anterior cranial fossa to register models of before and after space closing. Quantitative assessment of posterior anchorage loss and amount of anterior teeth retraction are the main outcomes. The secondary outcomes are the inclination of the molars, canines and incisors.
