NCT ID: NCT02977221 Completed - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Efficacy of Piezosurgey Corticotomy (a Minimally Invasive Surgical Technique) in Accelerating Orthodontic Alignment

Start date: March 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Applying flapless piezocision corticotomies on the alveolar bone and separating anterior mandibular teeth using a piezosurgery device (i.e. ultrasonic waves that perform very accurate incisions without any sutures following this procedure) may improve the speed of tooth alignment during orthodontic treatment. This study consists of two groups, patients will be randomly assigned to one of these two groups. The efficacy of this procedure on 18 patients (experimental group) will be evaluated, whereas the second group (control group) will receive a traditional orthodontic therapy. The time required to achieve complete alignment of crowded mandibular anterior teeth (from canine to canine) will be compared between the two groups.

NCT ID: NCT02975765 Completed - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT02959671 Completed - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Clinical Performance of a New Esthetic, Self-ligating Orthodontic Bracket

Start date: January 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A cohort of 15 patients starting orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances will receive EXD-952 Ceramic Self-ligating brackets on all mandibular incisors and a different type of brackets on the remaining mandibular teeth. Tooth movement will be initiated using 0.014" or 0.016" Nickel-Titanium archwires. A second cohort of 15 patients will receive EXD-952 Ceramic Self-ligating bracket on all mandibular incisors in a later phase of their ongoing orthodontic treatment. The mandibular incisor brackets will be removed and EXD-952 Ceramic Self-ligating brackets placed instead. Other mandibular brackets will remain in place. Tooth movement will be performed using 0.019x0.025" Stainless Steel archwires. In both cohorts bracket door stability, the ability of the door to hold the archwire in the bracket slot, the bracket's ability to rotate teeth, clinicians' satisfaction with the bracket, and patient comfort in comparison with other brackets will be assessed. The evaluation for each patient will last for at least until one archwire change (cohort 1) or one appointment interval (6-8 weeks, cohort 2). After the evaluation period, EXD-952 Ceramic Self-ligating brackets will remain in place until the orthodontic treatment is completed.

Personalized Titanium Plates vs CAD/CAM Surgical Splints in Maxillary Repositioning of Orthognathic Surgery

Start date: September 6, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether personalized titanium plates can achieve better accuracy than CAD/CAM surgical splint in maxilla repositioning in orthognathic surgery, and evaluate the feasibility of this technique in clinical application.

NCT ID: NCT02907450 Completed - Clinical trials for Dentofacial Functional Disorder

TolTwiCare : Qualitative Evaluation Routine Care From Primary Tolerance of a Prefabricated and Removable Orthosis

TolTwiCare
Start date: October 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The TwiCare® device is a removable brace that can be used in orthopedic referred to stimulate mandibular growth or in interception / contention. The proposed research project will focus initially on assessing the comfort and safety of TwiCare® device. The orthopedic efficiency therefore not part of this study. The comfort and safety of the brace will be evaluated firstly by the practitioner during the visit control around 2 ½ months (or 11 weeks) after the start of the port of the device, and with the help of a questionnaire completed by the patient at home 3 weeks and 6 weeks after the start of the port of the device, and during the control visit at 11 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT02868554 Completed - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Accelerated Invisalign Therapy in Conjunction With Acceledent Aura

Start date: August 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Purpose: The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of accelerated Invisalign and vibration therapy on rate of orthodontic tooth movement, activation of inflammation biomarkers as well as pain levels experienced by orthodontic patients during the initial 12 weeks of alignment. Participants: Up to 30 orthodontic patients of the University of North Carolina Orthodontic Residency Program will be recruited for this study. Patients older than 18 years old will be otherwise healthy subjects previously diagnosed with malocclusion. Procedures (methods): Each patient will be randomly allocated into either a control group or one of two intervention groups. Patients within the control group will receive standard Invisalign therapy without vibration. Patients within the intervention groups will receive accelerated Invisalign therapy with or without vibration. Patients receiving vibration therapy will utilize an AcceleDent Aura device which provides a light vibration at .25 Newtons (N) and 30 Hertz (Hz) frequency for twenty minutes daily. Three dimensional images of each subject's dentition will be recorded five times at 0 days, 4 days, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks progress visits.

NCT ID: NCT02659813 Completed - Malocclusion Clinical Trials

Orthodontic Archwire Effectiveness Trial

ArchWireRaCE
Start date: October 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study protocol is for a randomised clinical trial which aims to test two materials used as orthodontic archwire to compare FireWire archwires to Copper Nickel Titanium (CNiTi) archwires. Both professional and patient related outcome measures are to be used to fully evaluate performance.

NCT ID: NCT02606331 Completed - Clinical trials for Malocclusion, Angle Class II

Efficacy of Minimally Invasive Surgical Technique in Accelerating Orthodontic Treatment

Start date: April 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Thirty six patients needs therapeutic extraction of the maxillary first premolars with subsequent retraction of the maxillary canines will be divided randomly into two groups : piezocision group and the ER:yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser group. In each group, piezocision or hard laser-assisted flapless corticotomy will randomly assigned to one side of the maxillary arch at the first premolar region, and the other side served as the control. Canine retraction will be initiated after completion of the leveling and alignment phase via closed nickel-titanium coil springs applying 150 g of force per side, soldered trans-palatal arch will be used as an anchor unit. Pre- and post distalization dental casts will be evaluated to study rate of canine distalization, canine rotation and anchorage loss over a follow-up period until a Class I canine relationship is achieved. The levels of pain and discomfort will be self-reported using a questionnaire with visual analog scales administered at four assessment times during the first month after the minimally invasive procedure.
