Filter by:In the Belly Fat study, the effects of two different caloric-restricted diets on metabolic health will be examined in male and female subjects with increased abdominal adiposity (BMI >27 kg/m2). Metabolic health is defined as health of the primary metabolic organs the liver, gut and the adipose tissue, examined in a static state as well as after the application of a challenge test. The diets are equally caloric-restricted, but differ in nutrient composition. It is hypothesized that one of the two diets causes a larger improvement in organ health and reduction in liver fat.
Losing weight before undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery may reduce liver fat content and size thereby improving surgical outcomes. This study aims to investigate whether a 2-week or 6-week pre-operative liquid formula low-calorie diet (LCD) reduces liver fat further than a conventional food diet prior to RYGB using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The hypothesis is that the 2-week and 6-week liquid formula LCD will reduce liver fat further than the conventional food pre-operative diet.
Assessment of glucose metabolism and liver fat after 12 week dietary intervention in pre diabetes subjects. Subjects will be randomized to either high fat (olive oil supplemented),high carb/high fiber (beans supplemented) and high carb/low fiber diets. Glucose metabolism will be assessed by labeled oral glucose tolerance test and liver fat by magnetic resonance spectroscopy pre randomization and at 8 and 12 week after starting dietary intervention.
