Knee Functionality Recovery Indicators in Athletes Submitted to Ligamentoplasty of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are recurrent, especially in sports. There is still no consensus on the characterization of functional indicators in this clinical condition, as well as their correlation with measuring instruments and clinical functional tests. It is intended to study the changes in functionality of users undergoing this surgery, aiming with functional assessment scales at different times of recovery. This will allow deciding on more adapted recovery strategies, which can meet the musculoskeletal requirements of the user.

This prospective randomised study aimed to test the investigators's hypothesis that anti-gravity treadmill therapy has beneficial effects on postural stability tests over a standard rehabilitation protocol in patients who have suffered traumatic injuries of the lower limb, demonstrating an improvement in the Biodex platform's values. The total of 30 patients participated in this study (n=30). There were 15 subjects in control group and 15 in experimental group.

Total Genotype Score, Growth, Maturation and Loading Exposure as Risk Factors for Injury in Elite Male Youth Football

A total genotype risk score was generated based on the findings of previous research for non-contact injury, non-contact muscle injury, tendon injury, ligament injury, fracture injury and apophysitis injury. This score was then compared with the incidence of injury between those with high, medium and low risk scores for each injury. The influence of different rates of growth, stages of physical maturation and loading exposure were then also included in the risk model to see if any interaction effects could be observed between genetic risk score and susceptibility to injury in different categories of growth, maturation and loading exposure.

Hand Ligament Reconstructions With Knee Collateral Ligament Allografts

The purpose of this study is to review the clinical outcomes following hand ligament reconstruction surgery using allograft (cadaveric) knee collateral ligaments. Currently, there is no standard procedure or devices used for hand ligament reconstruction surgery, although most techniques use some form of autograft (patients' own tissue) for the reconstruction. We believe that the use of allograft ligaments in reconstruction may eliminate the pain associated with procuring the patients' own tissue for the procedure, and prove to be a viable and preferred alternative to the multiple techniques currently used. The main procedures of this study include wrist and hand ligament reconstruction surgery (for wrist scapholunate (SL) ligaments, thumb ulnar collateral ligaments (UCL), and finger proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint collateral ligaments) using allograft ligament, and subsequent follow up appointments where measurements and questionnaires will be completed to evaluate how hand function is doing after surgery.

Lack of current consensus on the therapeutic management of low-grade osteo-ligament injuries in ankle trauma in children. Several types of immobilization are evaluated in the literature, with different conclusions. Some teams recommend a functional treatment similar to the adult (with or without strict immobilization), others remain on standard rigid immobilizations. The goal of the study is to simplify and homogenize the therapeutic management of low-grade osteo-ligament injuries in ankle trauma in children.

Do Oral Contraceptives Protect Against ACL Injuries in Female Athletes

The purpose of this research study is to examine the impact of one type of commonly used birth control pill on blood levels of relaxin and measure changes in knee movement to determine whether there are changes in joint instability (indicating the knee is less stable) that may predispose female athletes to injury. Women not on hormonal birth control will also be enrolled to analyze differences between athletes on and not on birth control and to evaluate typical relaxin levels and knee laxity when birth control pills are not used.

Medial and Lateral Combined Ligament Arthroscopic Repair for Multidirectional Ankle Instability: Case Series

Abstract Introduction: The high prevalence of sprains in the population has provided a substantial number of patients with lateral instability of the ankle. The continuity of this condition can lead to the progressive loosening of the medial containment structures, generating a multidirectional rotational instability. The deltoid approach through the imbrication of its components has been proposed as a solution for these patients. The arthroscopic technique has been described as an alternative. Methods: This is a retrospective study with patients diagnosed with multidirectional instability and submitted to an ankle arthroscopy with medial repair (arthroscopic tensioning) and lateral (arthroscopic Brostrom) between January 2018 and January 2020. All patients will fill an epidemiological questionnaire and will be evaluated for pain and function according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Score (AOFAS) at 12 months (6-24 months) average of follow-up. Discussion: The combined medial and lateral arthroscopic repair may be an effective and safe alternative in the treatment of multidirectional instability. The inclusion of the deltoid complex and the low invasiveness of this technique can improve the clinical outcomes of these patients. Additional studies, with a prospective and comparative methodology are required to sustain this proposal. Design: Level IV. Retrospective case series.
