Start date: July 2011
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study is to compare the pharmacokinetics of a routinely used compounded liquid formulation of 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) with commercially available tablets in patients who are receiving treatment with 6-MP as part of their clinical treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

NCT ID: NCT01324180 Completed - Clinical trials for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Vincristine, Dexamethasone, Doxorubicin, and PEG-asparaginase (VPLD) and Metformin for Relapsed Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)

Start date: July 18, 2011
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute will be the Sunshine Project Coordinator, but will not be recruiting locally. The purpose of the trial is to study the clinical and biological effects of metformin in combination with standard systemic chemotherapy in a disease (relapsed ALL) that has a dismal outcome, as well as to do a dose escalation study to find the Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD) of metformin in conjunction with ALL therapy. There have also been analysis of patients enrolled on trials who were diabetics on metformin and their outcome was better than patients on the same trial that were not on metformin as their antihyperglycemic.

NCT ID: NCT01321346 Completed - Clinical trials for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

A Study Of Panobinostat In Children With Refractory Hematologic Malignancies

Start date: March 2011
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study is for patients with relapsed or refractory Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), Hodgkin's Disease (HD) or Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL). Panobinostat is a new drug that is considered investigational because it has not been approved in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or in any other country. Panobinostat is a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi) and interferes with gene expression found in cells causing them to stop growing or die. Panobinostat has been used in several hundred adults who had leukemia, HD, NHL and other solid tumors. Panobinostat has not been given to children. This is a phase I study. In a phase I study, drugs are tested to the highest dose that can be safely given. Drugs are given at gradually increasing dosages until there are unacceptable side effects. The goal of the Phase I study is to find out the dose of panobinostat that can be safely given to children with relapsed ALL, AML, HD and NHL.

NCT ID: NCT01319981 Completed - Leukemia Clinical Trials

Hyper-CVAD With Liposomal Vincristine in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Start date: March 5, 2013
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Any time the words "you," "your," "I," or "me" appear, it is meant to apply to the potential participant. The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if intensive chemotherapy (hyper-CVAD therapy) given in combination with liposomal vincristine (Marqibo), in addition to rituximab for patients who are CD20 positive and/or imatinib, dasatinib, or ruxolitinib for patients with the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome, can help to control ALL or lymphoblastic lymphoma. The safety of this treatment will also be studied. CD20 is a protein "marker" that is found in leukemia or lymphoma cells. This is an investigational study. Liposomal vincristine is FDA approved for the treatment of patients with CLL who have relapsed at least 2 times. All of the other study drugs used in this study are FDA approved and commercially available. The combination of liposomal vincristine with the other study drugs is also being used in research only. Up to 65 patients will take part in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

NCT ID: NCT01317940 Completed - Clinical trials for Vitamin D Deficiency

Nutrition and Body Composition in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Start date: March 2011
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Many adolescents with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have been found to have low bone density by the end of treatment. This can lead to long-term suffering in survivors due to poor bone health. Vitamin D is known to be associated with bone health and previous research has established that Vitamin D insufficiency is very common at diagnosis of ALL and worsens over the course of treatment. Researchers have also learned that a relationship exists between both Vitamin D and fat tissue and ALL and fat tissue. In adolescents being treated for ALL as well as in early survivors, this randomized study will therefore examine the effect of Vitamin D and calcium supplementation on correcting Vitamin D insufficiency and on improving bone density in the context of changes in body composition and body fat. Bone density will be measured by a radiology exam called qCT (quantitative computed tomography) while body composition and body fat will be measured by a different radiology exam called a DXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry scan) . The study will also examine in depth the relationship between these three elements - Vitamin D insufficiency, obesity, and ALL - and their impact on bone density.

NCT ID: NCT01313689 Completed - Leukaemia Clinical Trials

Ofatumumab vs Physician's Choice in Subjects With Bulky Fludarabine-Refractory Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Start date: April 14, 2011
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study was to confirm the clinical benefit observed in the pivotal registration study, Hx-CD20-406. The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) required that a randomized study be conducted in CLL patients with bulky fludarabine-refractory disease as a specific obligation for grant of conditional approval for ARZERRA™ in the European Union (EU). This study compared ofatumumab with the physicians' choice of therapy.

NCT ID: NCT01310101 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Ofatumumab Added to Dexamethasone in Subjects With Relapsed or Refractory Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Start date: April 2011
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The rationale of the study is to explore the safety and efficacy of ofatumumab in combination with dexamethasone (O-dex regimen) in patients with refractory/relapsed CLL. Moreover, the hypothesis is that this approach will be able to achieve at least the same response rates compared with R-dex regimens (historical controls; manuscript submitted to Leukemia), while maintaining lower toxicity profile.

NCT ID: NCT01310010 Completed - Clinical trials for Leukemia, Lymphoblastic, Acute, Philadelphia-Positive
