Filter by:This study will compare the efficacy and safety of 2 dosing regimens of oral CellCept administered as a component of standard immunosuppressive therapy in recipients of kidney transplants. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3-12 months, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
Patients who undergo kidney transplant must take medications to prevent organ rejection. There are standard immunosuppressant medications such as prednisone, tacrolimus (Prograf), mycophenolate mofetil(Cellcept) or sirolimus (Rapamune) that are given to patients to prevent rejection. It is well known that patients on immunosuppressant medications are at increased risk from viral infections, such as influenza. However, it is not well understood how immunosuppressive medications may uniquely affect the immune response to infection. This study will determine whether there are unique differences in the effects on the immune system by these different immunosuppressive medications, particularly differences between tacrolimus and sirolimus.
The purpose of this research study is to find out the effects of adding B lymphocyte modulating agents in patients at risk for rejection receiving an anti-rejection (immunosuppressive) regimen of Thymoglobulin® induction with Prograf®, Cellcept® and corticosteroid therapy.
The use of steroids after kidney transplantation has been challenged because of variable adverse effects which may increase the patient morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of immunosuppressive regimens consisting of cyclosporine (CsA) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or tacrolimus (TAC) and MMF after steroid withdrawal 6 months after kidney transplantation in low-risk patients.

This 2 arm study will compare the efficacy and safety of CellCept, combined with low or standard dose tacrolimus plus corticosteroids, in patients with kidney transplants. Patients will be randomized into one of 2 groups to receive either 1)CellCept 2.0g/day po bid + tacrolimus 10-12ng/mL followed by a maintenance dose of 8-10ng/mL + corticosteroids or 2)CellCept 2.0g/day po bid + tacrolimus 8-10ng/mL in the first 2 months,3-7ng/mL in month 3 followed by a maintenance dose of 3-5ng/mL + corticosteroids. The anticipated time on study treatment is 1 year, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
The study is a laboratory investigation comparing the regulatory effects of different immunosuppressive therapies in an in vitro human MLR assay of selecting specific immunosuppressive therapy to promote a regulatory profile and determining possibly newer accepted dosing and drug concentrations for agents most associated with this regulatory profile.
