Filter by:The purpose of this project is to study the the efficacy and safety of probiotics implantation through infusion during colonoscopy in the treatment of functional constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. The study is a single-center, prospective, randomized, single-blind, controlled, cohort study. The invesitigators plan to enroll 80 patients with functional constipation and 80 patients with irritable bowel syndrome. The invesitigators will randomize the included study subjects. The experimental group receive basic treatment and a single infusion of probiotics through colonoscopy. The control group receive basic treatment and a single injection of normal saline through colonoscopy. The invesitigators will follow up the patients for 8-12 weeks. The primary endpoint is the efficacy of the single colonoscopic probiotics infusion in functional constipation and irritable bowel syndrome patients. The secondary endpoint is the safety of the single colonoscopic probiotics infusion in functional constipation and irritable bowel syndrome patients. Other exploratory objectives include the alterations in clinical indicators, fecal microbiota, and intestinal microbiota metabolites in feces and serum.
Previous studies have shown that stool transplantation (FMT) have positive effect in symptoms for some patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Studies have shown that it is possible by FMT to reverse the microbiome of the recipient's intestine in the direction of the microbiome of the donor. The effect on eating habits for engraftment of microbiome by FMT is unknown. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether FMT relieves FODMAP diet extension without worsening intestinal symptoms in IBS patients.
Double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the benefit of pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila in reducing complaints related to irritable bowel syndrome. Further objectives are to evaluate the beneficial potential of pAkk on any anxiety and depression complaints, as well as its safety and tolerability.
This is a multicenter cross-sectional study on the prevalence of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the risk factors associated with it. The Rome IV criteria is used for diagnosing IBS. A questionnaire-guided interview will be applied to all subjects.

The main purpose of the study is to investigate the clinical real-world effectiveness of a specific exposure based psychological treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). A secondary aim of the study is to find mediators of the treatment effect and thereby learn something about the working mechanism of the treatment.
Treatments efficacy in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients is inconstant and predictive factors of their efficacy are needed. The role of dysbiosis in IBS is well-known. Another way to identify microbiota differences is to assess its metabolic activity. It has been demonstrated that colonic pH in IBS patients is lower than in healthy volunteers, reflecting a highest colonic fermentation. Colonic acidification is able to sensitize colonic mechano-receptors to distension. Microbiota profile is able to predict the response to a low Fermentable Oligo, Di, Monosaccharides And Polyols (FODMAPs) diet, but is not available in clinical routine. The aim of our study is to assess the link between colonic fermentation (measured by colonic pH) and the efficacy of a low FODMAPs diet in IBS patients (measured by IBS severity scoring system (IBS-SSS)). We hypothesis that IBS patients with a lower colonic pH will have a better efficacy of the low FODMAPs diet. It might allow in the future personalized medicine. 50 IBS patients according to Rome IV criteria will be included in our study. All patients will have a measure of their colonic pH by wireless motility capsule. Patients will follow a low FODMAPs diet for 6 weeks after an education by a trained dietician. All participants will fill validated questionnaires before and after 6 weeks of low FODMAPs diet: IBS-SSS, Gastro Intestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) scale. Microbiota, metabolomic and short chain fatty acid will be analysed before and after the intervention. The number of patients was calculated to assess the correlation between colonic pH and the variation of IBS-SSS before and after the intervention.
The primary aim of this study will be to determine if the addition of aerobic interval and inspiratory muscle training (IMT) targeted at improving cardiopulmonary-based measures will further improve patient satisfaction scores in individuals with chronic constipation (CC) who report plateau or limited improvements in CC after demonstrating a corrected defecation pattern using anorectal biofeedback training.
