Filter by:The Apple Respiratory Study, a collaboration between researchers at Apple Inc. (the "Study Sponsor" or "Sponsor") and the Seattle Flu Study team at the University of Washington (UW) (the "UW Study Team"), is a prospective, longitudinal cohort, low risk Study to collect certain data from Apple Watch and iPhone to determine whether such data can detect physiologic and non-physiologic changes in individuals associated with respiratory illnesses due to influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory pathogens (the "Study").
Respiratory infections such as colds, flu and pneumonia affect millions of people around the world every year. Most cases are mild, but some people become very unwell. Influenza ('flu') is one of the most common causes of lung infection. Seasonal flu affects between 10% and 46% of the population each year and causes around 12 deaths in every 100,000 people infected. In addition, both influenza and coronaviruses have caused pandemics in recent years, leading to severe disease in many people. Although flu vaccines are available, these need to change every year to overcome rapid changes in the virus and are not completely protective. This study aims to find and develop predictive tests to better understand how and when flu-like illness progresses to more severe disease. This may help to decide which people need to be admitted to hospital, and how their treatment needs to be increased or decreased during infection. The aim is to recruit 100 patients admitted to hospital due to a respiratory infection. It is voluntary to take part and participants can choose to withdraw at any time. The study will involve some blood and nose samples. This will be done on Day 0, Day 2 and Discharge from hospital, and an out-patient follow-up visit on Day 28. The data will be used to develop novel diagnostic tools to assist in rational treatment decisions that will benefit both individual patients and resource allocation. It will also establish research preparedness for upcoming pandemics.
This project is a randomised trial in order to determine if "gamification" can result in behaviour change for healthcare workers in the residential aged care setting. The app is for Age Care and care workers at the front line who are working to protect those most vulnerable to COVID-19. There are 2 groups in this trial on group will receive current and accurate information from an app. The other group will receives the app with the addition of a gamification competent, this will include rewarding experiences for staff doing safety behaviours and wellbeing behaviours. The purpose of the gamification is to create a calming and reassuring experience that injects positivity and joy where possible during this stressful time.

The goal of this study is to understand the impact on the human immune system's response to the four strain flu vaccine in individuals who have "imprinted" on specific influenza strains. It will also consider the effects of repeated prior annual influenza vaccination on the immune system.
A Phase IIb randomised, participant-blinded, placebo-controlled, multi-centre phase IIb efficacy study in 2030 volunteers aged 65 and over. The study will assess the safety and efficacy of the co-administration of a viral vectored vaccine, MVA- NP+M1, and the annual recommended licensed inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV). Within the main cohort 100 participants will be recruited to an immunology sub-cohort.
