Lybridos in Pre-and Postmenopausal Women With Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, dose-finding study to investigate the safety and efficacy of Lybridos in the domestic setting in healthy female subjects with hypoactive sexual desire disorder and maladaptive activity of sexual inhibitory mechanisms. This is a 2-arm placebo and Lybridos (0.5 mg testosterone + buspirone 10 mg) extension to study EB90 (Clinical Study Protocol EB90a, version 3.0, 07 June 2013). In the present study, the efficacy of Lybridos will be evaluated in the domestic setting in healthy female subjects with HSDD and maladaptive activity of sexual inhibitory mechanism(s). Sexual satisfaction and other aspects of sexual functioning will be measured within 24 hours after each sexual activity. The following hypotheses will be tested: Lybridos, as compared to placebo, will significantly increase the number of satisfying sexual events. Objectives: To investigate the efficacy of Lybridos as compared to placebo in increasing the number of satisfactory sexual episodes in healthy female subjects with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) and maladaptive activity of sexual inhibitory mechanisms - To identify the optimal dose of Lybridos to take into phase 3 clinical development - To confirm that Lybridos has superior efficacy as compared to testosterone alone and to buspirone alone - To evaluate the effect of Lybridos as measured by scales of sexual satisfaction and/or sexual desire/arousal - To evaluate the safety profile of Lybridos

Acupuncture for Sexual Dysfunction

Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) affects up to 43% of women in the United States and Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is the most common form. There is no standardized treatment for this condition. We know that alternative therapies such as acupuncture have been beneficial to women suffering from urinary incontinence, chronic lower back pain, and migraines. We hypothesize that the quality of life for premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) will improve with initiation of acupuncture therapy for a duration of 5-weeks. Validated questionnaires are administered at the time of enrollment and 1 week after the final acupuncture session as the method of analyzing our primary outcome.

Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is the most prevalent female sexual dysfunction in society and is strongly linked to the quality of life of women. The androgen hormones decline over age in the premenopausal period, which occurs around 20 years. Tribulus terrestris is a plant native to India, recommended in the treatment of infertility, low libido and impotence. Its main active ingredient is the protodioscin, which has been attributed to an increase in testosterone levels and improved sexual function. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of Tribulus Terrestris in premenopausal women with HSDD.

In the present study, the efficacy of Lybridos will be evaluated in the domestic setting in healthy female subjects with HSDD and maladaptive activity of sexual inhibitory mechanism(s). The number of satisfying sexual events will not differ significantly between subjects treated with placebo and subjects treated with 0.5 mg testosterone alone and/or 10 mg buspirone alone. Lybridos, as compared to placebo, will significantly increase sexual desire/arousal. Sexual desire/arousal will not differ significantly between subjects treated with placebo and subjects treated with 0.5 mg testosterone alone and/or 10 mg buspirone alone. Lybridos, as compared to testosterone alone and buspirone alone, will significantly increase the number of satisfying sexual events and sexual desire/arousal.

Women with Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) have all measures of testosterone activity comparable to controls but lower levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Although DHEA is a precursor of testosterone it has other actions including involvement in the stress system. It is also linked to mood. This study focuses on measures of childhood stress, current mood and salivary stress hormones, in women with and without HSDD. We hypothesize that low levels of DHEA reflect dysfunction of the neuroendocrine stress response system involving the brain, pituitary and adrenal glands where DHEA is produced.

WHO-HPH Recognition Project on Fast-Track Implementation of Clinical Health Promotion

The project's background is the notion that patient centred clinical health promotion has been shown to significantly improve both outcomes and patient safety. Accordingly, the WHO describes health promotion as a key dimension of quality in hospitals, and the organization has developed standards on the topic in order to help hospital management and staff members to assess and improve the quality of health care and thereby achieve better health for patients, staff, and community. Even so, however, health promotion is still a very implicit part of nearly all quality standards on hospitals. Moreover, assessing hospitals departments' health promotion performance is still quite an unexplored area. On this basis, this project will test a new recognition process that uses the relevant WHO-HPH tools and standards to assess performance, by way of explicit documentation and evaluation of clinical health promotion activity. The project is deigned as a RCT, with a control group that undergoes the recognition process immediately and a control group that continue usual clinical routine. Then, after one year, the control group also begins the recognition process (= delayed start), while the Intervention group (=immediate-start) continues with the recognition process. Doing this allows for a great array of measurements, and hopefully the project will then show whether the recognition process really benefits implementation of health promotion in hospitals and health services, and also, if this really generates better health gains for patients and staff. The outcome measurements will be frequency of health promotion services delivered on smoking, excessive alcohol use, overweight, malnutrition, and physical activity to patients in need. Such services could for instance be motivational counselling and brief interventions, as well as intervention, rehabilitation and after treatment. Physical, mental, and social health status among patients and staff will be measured by short form (SF36).
