Filter by:Right ventricular (RV) physiological remodeling in response to prolonged strength exercise remains poorly studied. This prospective, non-randomized, single-center study, proposes to follow 24 healthy sedentary volunteers who will benefit from a high-intensity pure resistance training program over a 6-month period. The volunteers, aged between 18 and 40 years old and male, will be recruited and evaluated at the University Hospital center of Caen Normandy. Cardiac remodeling in response to physical exercise will be analyzed by trans-thoracic echocardiography repeated during the follow-up. The physical impact of the training program will be assessed by a treadmill exercise test predicting maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) before and after completing the training, and an isokinetic muscular test repeated every 3 months. Participants rest/activity cycles will be monitor before and after 3 months of training. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the existence of a physiologic RV remodeling in response to pure high-load resistance chronic exercise. The results will help to improve the understanding of the physiological RV response expected in strength athletes.
A Phase II prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled and comparative clinical study evaluating hydrogel scar-management modalities for effective management of hyperproliferative scars and keloids. This is a double-blinded study, which means that neither the evaluating physician nor the subject will know which treatment is administered. Group selection and assignment will be made at random, with a 2 in 5 chance of receiving a market-approved therapy, and 1 in 5 chance of receiving the placebo. Subjects assigned the placebo-moisturizer will receive a standard hypoallergenic dermatological hydrating cream base. Subjects assigned the silicone gel, will receive a commercially available, active comparator.
The purpose of this study is to determine if LCZ696 is safe, tolerable and can improve exercise capacity (via improved peak VO2) in non-obstructive HCM patient population over the course of 50 weeks of treatment.
Periostin is a matricellular protein that has been shown to be a marker of Type 2 inflammation associated with airway eosinophilia. Matricellular proteins are highly expressed at sites of injury or inflammation. Periostin involves tissue fibrosis and remodeling in the nasal mucosa in some of the otolaryngologic diseases. The up-regulation of periostin expression has been shown in allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps , and aspirin intolerant asthma. In the light of these findings the investigators aimed to evaluate the relation between adenoid hypertrophy and periostin levels.
In this trial, the investigators will assess the effect of metoprolol in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who underwent alcohol septal ablation. The investigators will evaluate the quality of life, exercise tolerance, echocardiographic parameters and laboratory marker of heart failure and myocardial injury.
Left ventricular obstruction is an invalidating complication of hypertrophic cardiomyopathies (HCM), and endothelial dysfunction has also been observed in these pathologies. However, the relation between obstruction and endothelial and venous dysfunctions has not been previously studied. The main objective is to investigate the relations between endothelial and venous dysfunctions and symptomatic left ventricular outflow-tract obstruction in HCM patients.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the potential correlations of global longitudinal strain and peak left atrial strain, measured by speckle tracking echocardiography with the severity of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the risk for arrhythmias. Specifically the investigational questions are: 1. Is there a correlation between myocardial deformation parameters of the left heart chambers with other important ultrasound parameters (eg maximal wall thickness, presence of subaortic obstruction, etc.) in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? 2. Is there a correlation between myocardial deformation parameters of the left heart chambers and the symptomatology or functional capacity of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? 3. Is there a correlation between the myocardial deformation parameters of the left heart chambers and the exercise capacity, as evidenced by the cardiopulmonary exercise test, in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? 4. Is there a correlation between myocardial deformation parameters of the left heart chambers with the risk of ventricular or supraventricular arrhythmias in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? 5. Is there a correlation between myocardial deformation parameters of the left heart chambers and risk factors for sudden death?
To examine patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) before and after septal alcohol ablation, to investigate the effect of the treatment in regards to changes in myocardial function, perfusion, invasive hemodynamics and exercise tolerance.
The objective of this clinical study is to evaluate the efficacy of fractional RF for the treatment and reduction of acne scarring or facial wrinkles.
- Tonsillectomy is a common pediatric procedure for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing and chronic tonsillitis. Up to half of children having this procedure experience a perioperative respiratory adverse event. - We tried to determine whether tulobuterol patch (transdermal bronchodilator) premedication decreases the risk of perioperative respiratory adverse events in children undergoing anesthesia for tonsillectomy.
